After playing Battlefield 4 on PS4 and seeing how beautiful that game is while running at 60fps, it makes me wonder why most devs are still shooting for 30fps in their games. On the Xbox 360 and PS3, it seemed like devs had to make a choice between graphics and frame rate. Most chose graphics and I understand that. However, on this new and more powerful hardware, it seems to me that one can have both gorgeous graphical fidelity and a high frame rate that benefits gameplay and even looks better in motion.
So then, why are games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Bloodborne stuck at this lackluster 30fps? Shouldn't we be moving more towards the PC experience which has been superior for years primarily because of the high frame rates achievable on that platform? I've heard some devs claim that games at 30fps are "more cinematic". I think that's like trying to say that a film being played at 48 frames per second makes it more like a video game. It's nonsense.
Anyway, I just find it a little annoying that we're still stuck with 30fps when both of these new consoles have proven they can handle 60fps perfectly fine with a high resolution and stunning graphical fidelity. A cynical mind might say that devs are keeping to 30fps simply because it's easier to program and optimize.
What say you?
