Ok, I've started an Arcane Warrior. I'm currently level 4 at the temple of who ever where you have to light the beacon. The guide states what spells to select, but what about skills? Do I max out on combat training? Do I need str? I understand that the arcane warrior is a sword and armor mage right?

You won't get the Arcane Warrior specialization until later on. A mage in general basically only needs Magic & Willpower for their casting (with focus on Magic to improve damage and gain access to higher-tier spells) and perhaps 16 in Cunning so you can Persuade people.

I know I won't get it till 7th level, but my question is this. Does the mage not need strength and con if I"m going to wear armor and use a sword as an arcane warrior, or does my magic substitute those attributes?

No. When you use the Arcane Warrior it subs strength with your magic stat.

You still need constitution for health. And dexterity for dodge chance. And cunning for skills.

I would rank attributes in this order:

Magic - 10
Willpower - 8
Constitution - 8
Dexterity - 6
Cunning - 2/6 if you really want some skills, then get it to 16 quickly
Strength - 0

As a arcane warrior you get 3 very useful skills.

Combat Magic

(passive, use magic stat for strength requirement)

(active, use your spell power + bonus = melee attack, magic attacks are more powerful bit hit to your mana)

Aura of Might (enhancement to combat magic)

Grants additional Attack, Defense, and damage when combat magic is on.

Fade Shroud (enhancement to combat magic)

You now partly exist between the real world and the fade grants mana regeneration bonus + increased chance to dodge incoming attacks.

Well, it's a good question.

It also depends on your 2nd specialisation.

An arcane warrior needs Magic first and foremost. It enhances his damage and allows him to wear heavier armor and weapons (since the 1st talent swaps strength for magic in equipment). This also means that your strength score is completely irrelevant and you don't need any points in this.

You plan to be in melee, and so Con is not a terrible choice to make, but I wouldn't put too much points in it unless you become a blood mage as well. In that case, I suggest you sink quite a few points into this, but don't put too much into it until you're a blood mage, because beforehand you will need Willpower to cast spells.

Dexterity is a good stat to sink a few points into. You won't need a whole lot of points, but a few points definitely help boost your defense and (more importantly) your attack score in melee, which you will be needing.

Cunning depends on your skill selection. If you want Coercion to persuade/intimidate, then you should get to 16 Cunning at some point, but just buy 2 points of cunning when you get that skill point and then you won't waste points on cunning before you need it. Combat Specialisation is extremely useful as it grants bonuses to attack and armor, but really, having a good persuade is so much more useful in the game. You'll get to max Combat Spec eventually.

Willpower is also a good stat to have. You need to cast spells, and even if you're going to be a blood mage, there is one thing that makes most arcane warriors truly formidable: Sustain spells. You just stack up the sustainable spells and hack away. Currently, I have Combat Magic, Shimmering Shield (3rd Arcane Warrior talent, gives HUGE bonuses to armor/resistances), Rock Armor, Arcane Shield, Frost Weapons and Miasma. Morrigan has Telekinetic weapons on, and in 1 more level also Flame Weapons.

It's crazy effective. Right now I have 57 armor and take very little damage from enemies, as well as having huge resistances. Sure, some fights are still a bit challenging, but in general I can just hack and slash and kill. It's pretty damn cool :)

Please understand only one weapon enchantment per mage, if you turn on fire then morrigan can turn telekinetic.. but Morrigan can not turn both fire and telekinetic buffs on.. so one weapon enhancement buff per mage at one time.

Personally im the mage that runs the weapon buff, but that is just me.

I'm currently building a char like this and i'm curious what kind of equipment do you use on your AW?

Atm i have a sword (the arcane warrior one with +5 magic and so on..) + board and rest of the eq is cloth. I'm just
not sure should i use a bit more heavier armour. My second specialization is spirit healer. Any tips for me? Image IPB
