Hello guys, I've been wondering recently, what exactly is Mass Effect? When you think of other games like Assassins Creed, you know its about Assassins, Templars, Desmond and their story, with Halo you have a gigantic mass destruction weapon and the story of the Chief, but what about Mass Effect? What makes Mass Effect? Im confused about that, because when I think of Mass Effect, I think of the awesome, frightening, alien machines that make you shiver when you hear them, called -  Reapers, Shepard, awesome written characters (R.I.P Thane <3) and to some extend exploration of the galaxy. I cant really think of a new Mass Effect without Reapers and/or Shepard..but then again I couldnt think of a Halo game without Masterchief and never thought I would enjoy Halo Reach and Halo Wars so much. So if they make a Mass Effect, what has to be in the game to make it worth its name and not just a new IP?

I'm not sure he meant it so literally, Psychevore.

Personally I'd have to say the thing I associate most about Mass Effect is the dialogue/choice system. Whenever a game offers multiple choices and lets your decisions shape the story I think "cool, its like Mass Effect". It wouldn't feel like Mass Effect if not for that system. Playing ME3 in 'Action Mode' would make it an entirely different game to me. The second thing, though just as important, is the multiple alien races and the whole flying around to different worlds on a ship. That probably should get more credit, not sure.

I'd go with third person space opera.

Mass Effect is simply a new way to deliver the oldest story ever written. Hope, perseverance, friendship and sacrifice overcoming the seemingly impossible odds that life throws at them and of course falling in love along the way.

It's American Pie meets Alien meets St Elmo's Fire meets Apocalypse Now.

A literal answer would've been 'the effect on mass that happens after running an electrical current through element zero'

:P

In Mass Effect 3 EDI mentions that she had a conversation with Liara about the "Mass Effect phenomena." I also heard something about dark energy from somewhere.

Mass relays, a decent plot, interesting characters and a 25 hour single-player will do it for me...

Even in a rush-playthrough I have never been able to do a trilogy playthrough in 50, much less 25 hours

Alien races, technology and history.

Shepard, Normandy crew, Reapers - they are characteristic for only one part of ME universe, they can be mentioned in other works from this fictive universe but even without them it would be Mass Effect, if previously mentioned three features are here.

Not hard at all. I played all three games under 19 hours and still got the best ending. I was playing on insanity mode

Sorry, I meant one game being 25 hours. The whole trilogy, including expansion packs, I'd want to be a minimum of 120 hours.

How many missions did you skip to pull that off?

ME1 I just did Feros, Noveria, Therum, Virmire and Ilos/Citadel

ME2 I recruited Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed, Mordin and Kasumi. Miranda and Zaeed were the only ones loyal and the only ones that survived the suicide mission. I did the firewalker missions and the Arrival dlc

ME3. I did Mars, Palaven, Grissom, Sur'Kesh, Rachni, sabotage genophage, coup, dreadnought, rescue Koris, side with the Quarians, Thessia, Santuary, Chronos and Earth. I did scan a lot of planets for assets

Now thats a unique experience. Since you didn't recruit her I assume that means Tali is dead, yes? Is there any unique dialogue where Shepard can ask one of the admirals about her to find out what happened or is she completely forgotten?

The only time is walking through the tube to get on the dreadnought, http://youtu.be/9IFzwwe0xTw?t=2m5s

Her name will not be on the wall if not recruited in ME2. Yes she would be dead along with Kal'Reeger

Mass Effect is the best space sci-fi setup I've ever seen since Stargate. Nuff said.

So not recruiting her will play out the same as recruiting her but having her die in the suicide mission? I see. I wonder how Shep even knows she is dead, since she was never recruited. Just one of those things, I guess.

Coincidentally you seem to be a treasure trove of ME youtube video trivia. Lol.
