// Coming in and dumping on a support thread for someone/something is really a no no for these sorts of forum. Supposed to be a place for the supporters to discuss it, not attempt to fend of trolls. If you want to make anti Dumat and old gods topics, so be it, just leave this one alone.

Other than the fact that theres only "praise be to Dumat" and no actual discussion About the Old Gods going on, and the only constructive debate on the Old God support, being caused by all of them rallying against me being an Andrastian Supporter. *Shrugs, and tokes a pipe*

I mentioned my views and take on the Old God's Lore last night (while staying in character of coarse), and you ragged on it with your views and take on the Lore. Yet, why do we need to defend a right to RP in a RP thread meant for RPing? So what if all the RP in question consists of is "Praise Dumat"! If you'd like, I could go start an "Anti-Dumat and Old Gods" thread for you. Leave us in peace sir, and good day to you.http://forum.bioware...ld-gods-thread/

Ah an acolyte comes seeking the wisdom of the gods. Making praise to night himself. The gods are simple, they need not our devotion the exist and thrive regardless. Those who are devoted are blessed and rewarded by the seven the golden light is ours and ours alone to bask in as the loyal believers. The chantry would teach the old gods as evil and now dead, but a god cannot die. The avatars that were brought low by wardens were brought such because they allowed it. The blights are a test from the god s themselves, a chance at redemption. The chantry tells lies meant to instill fear and in their fear, stupidity and hubris they claim to know the divine. Only the gods are divine, and the scope of their divinity and will is incomprehensible and unknowable to a mortal mind. All we can do as men is offer praise, live our lives to the fullest for the gods do not favor unexceptionalism, something the chantry propagates. Dumat's light and grace shine on all facets of life whether accepted or not.

The Maker currently offers a wide support network in the form of Chantries across the land. But still, I'm trying to keep my options open.

What benefits does Dumat have to offer? A healthplan? I mean, if I swap over, then I'll be hunted by my neighbors and have nobody I can talk shop with. So obviously there's got to be something to sweaten the deal a bit.

How does the salvation of your immortal soul sound? Also, you get to learn fantastical magics from talking Dragon Gods ;) there is very little the Maker can do to top that!

The old pantheon each represented a natural element inherent in the world, ie Silence/death, freedom/chaos, magic/flame, unity/chains, beauty, mystery, night. They old gods were very much tied into nature as well as being representative of a tenet of tevinter society. Each god has/had a priesthood dedicated to their service and were the direct line between man and said god. Prayer and offerings, many magical in nature were and are offered up to each god in return for blessings. Each god also has a holiday dedicated to them in which all merriment is in honor of said deity.

Old god worship is also not preoccupied with sin and hoping for more in death. It encourages strength in life and living to the fullest. Not to say it advocates anarchy, far from it. The gods expect a life to be lived in the pursuit of greatness leaving no regrets. A message far from what the chantry teaches.

On the other hand, ancient Tevinter routinely practicted human sacrifices in their worship of the old gods. If we assume they spoke the truth when claiming that they could talk with the dragons, then it follows that, at the very least, approve of human sacrifices.

Not something humans would consider to be good.

Well, I would not know about being "good". But tossing someone like Loghain or Meredith into the sacrificial pit is not exactly bad, either. It is possible Tevinter people practice that as both worshipping and execution. An empire like that is not going to run itself being just LOL-evil

What kind of magics? How will it help me operate a farm?

Or is this one of those gods for nobles only?

A life free from the preoccupation with sin and sorrow. A life unlived is a life regretted. And most importantly, the exist. Dumat loves and sees his followers protected and rewarded. To be in Dumat's grace is to know love, pleasure and power at its penultimate state. He and the gods are the golden light and the inhabit a golden land, paradise beyond the fade. A place where the faithful will dwell with them for eternity. Their kingdom is a place of eternal warmth and beautiful golden light.

What do I see here, a bunch of heathens trying to defile our lords house? Very well then, we shall have more sacrifices, atleast there is no shortage of offerings.

The false maker and his chantry conveniently serve only the wealthy. Dumat and his brethern have no such compunctions. If you offer a portion of your crop to the gods, while symbolic in nature, your reverence and humility will not fall on deaf ears. Dumat will see your land become more feryile than ever, the golden light will shine upon you. Of course you will still have to toil the fields, apathy is never rewarded, but you will see growth never before seen. Your family will want for food never again. Urthemiel will see your crops fat and plump and aplenty.

Unlike the chantry and the faiths of the uneducated and brainwashed fearful masses, the old gods offer a life worth living, both in thedas and the golden land. They have no desire to convert or kill any and all dissent, they are above such foolihness. Dumat and the gods exist, whether recognized or not they and their divinity cannot be undone. Pray and give offering, not of money like the false faiths but offerings of the soil, sweat, blood, your love and your soul. These are true offerings as they are what makes us human. The gods reward those whose faith is true. All, even the heathens among us should feel Dumat's embrace. While I do not share the mercy that I am preaching, it is the word and will of Dumat, the will of the gods.

Dumat's love is eternal and he protects his devoted children. He is the greatest power in all the universe, and as much as he is love his wrath is more terrifying to his enemies and those who would do harm to his devoted than any force in creation.

Ill not besmearch the elven faith as their reverence to nature is pleasing to Dumat. I believe their deities are powerful fade spirits but not gods. I must confess to not being as familiar with their faith as they arent trying to convert or cram it down anyones throat.

So he's got a nice home and lots of promises for the future.

But what can he do for me today?

Absolutely nothing.

The Maker if you remember has a host of servants, a veritable army that brought the very worship of those dragons crumbling down.

Well the scant remnants that remained after the blight anyway; Point being, supporting the worship of the Maker is actually embracing reality, the future.

Not clinging to the past like a delusion child who refuses to see the world has changed immensely; the fact Tevinter it self has given up the worship of the dragons, that their temples have become something more should be telling, if the very inventors of the religion have abandoned it, what is the purpose of joining a dead faith?
