Please let us not forget Cassandra is not supposed to be white. You can be forgiven for not adding Cass to the list of POC but how could you forget the marvellous Josephine Montilyet who is most defiantly a person of colour as well as a strong willed and independent female character who also happens to be a bisexual character is truly disheartening.

Josephine's not a companion, dude.

She's still a main character for the game.

We control main character Josephine's just adviser. You can't take here everywhere. According to you Morrigan is main character because she is in game, and a lot.

Not sure what you mean about Cassandra not being white. Her skin tone isn't any darker than a Mediterranean European's.

As for Josephine, she isn't a companion.

Please do Not speak of things you do not understand a marvel such as Morrigan should not be squeezed into anything so triveual let alone a trope

Tropes are not a bad thing. It's how they're used that matters.

This might not be the time and/or place to ask this question, but why is Cassandra not considered white?  Have they discussed her 'race' at some point because I've always seen her as a white woman.  Maybe a little tanned (or, she was in DA 2, at least).

I'd really just love to see a bookworm female companion. Like Finn from Witch Hunt (God I loved him), but less whiny.

True, I don't know much about her. We'll have to see what she's like in-game. :)

Cass white. I would say #FFCC99 or #FEB186 hard to tell because of different lighting.

It sucks that the extent of trans representation in DA is one character in the comics (who won't be in the game!) and a drag queen poorly played for laughs. Why exactly does Bioware get a LGBTQA+ flag again?

Maybe they're more concerned with characterization than your agenda.

You act as if these are mutually exclusive concepts.

Are you using a third rank character who you talk to ONCE as an example?

Certainly can't argue with that.

Lastly, I have a suggestion. Members of the LGBT community need to give people a reason to care about what they are going through, not an emotional reason but a factually based statistical one. Given my disposition of character and as an engineer, I respond to facts, if you want change it needs to be shown why your cause is worth getting behind and not with 'because it is the decent and human thing to do' I might agree with that statement but it does not move me because I have seen people be cruel and despicable to others in ways that are shocking, so an emotional argument holds even less water with me because of this. Show people why they should support you with evidence and factual stats.

There are tons of studies about this issue that anybody could look into.  Here's some facts:

Watching television decreases self-esteem in all children except white boys. (x)

GLB respondents indicate that the media influenced their coming out, self-realization, and current identities by providing role models and inspiration. (x)

To get back to the topic at hand, though, I do also find it sad that we're still stuck talking about whether or not female characters can be muscular or heavily scarred instead of truly non-gender-conforming characters, such as nonbinary or trans characters.  It just feels like we should have moved past the "women don't always have to look like models" talk, but I guess if people think frigging Korra looks too muscular, we'll never get anywhere beyond that.

I heard somebody talking about lady hulks so I'm here to do my She-Hulk Smash on anyone hating on them. :P

I'm slightly hopeful about the existence of nb/trans characters in this game? It's definitely something the devs have heard feedback about and listened to, as well as the comics having a transwoman and the books having a genderfluid character.... So hopefully there will be someone (who is not a prostitute) that is gender non-conforming or trans or something along those lines. I don't expect a huge NPC role, or for it to be even written without any problematic elements...but as long as they keep trying and listening to feedback, they'll make progress.

People on here talk about Cassandra like she's some kind of hideous beast, some even saying that they would kill her when they met her because she was "too ugly to live" if this is hideous:

Spoiler

There's very little hope of an overweight, heavily scarred, etc...female character.

If we get one, I wonder if we'll be able to respond like this in the game.

The more non-conventional and diverse characters we get the better society gets in how they are perceived. And...that means a lot more kids who don't get their self esteem crushed.

I'm for this too, but I just through I'd point out that Dorian is the Thedas version of South Asian, so you're actually getting two POC companions this time. (Also there was Isabela last time.)

Waat. They're all white.

I can actually forgive Dragon Age for its whiteness given the setting, but if they're going to put black people in they might as well include more ethnicities. Even while under represented, black people probably still dwarf all other non-white ethnicities combined.

And those people who are somehow confused about why representation is important should look up the very sad doll tests.

The Op seems to be suggesting doing opposite things for the sake of being opposite though, which only makes sense to me on opposite day.

Agreed.  I've also seen it said, but I don't have the link handy, that his intended 'race' is the Thedas equivalent of southern Asian.

I think it's pretty clear that Josephine, Dorian, and Vivienne are intended to be PoC.  I've never seen Cassandra labeled as such before, which was why I asked for clarification on it.

Yeah, as I've mentioned in other threads, Cassandra is the only one who's ethnicity I haven't seen commented on by someone official. But I don't tend to obsess over her like Dorian and Josephine, so I suppose I could have missed it. If anyone has a link or quote, I'd love to see it.
