Well, what do you know, Stan Lee has finally weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Black Widow's role in Age of Ultron.

http://bit.ly/1K0PP6P

Black Widow's role in AoU is a non-issue turned into an issue by irrational nuts who are obsessed with nonsense to the point that they do not tolerate any woman being vulnerable or having human emotions because of her past and because it makes a great story arc.

Finally saw Age Of Ultron over the weekend. I liked it a lot. It was great seeing Quicksilver in action. Didn't like what happened with him later on though. That should not be.

Soul Gem will fix him up. I'm sure that gem will pop up in Dr. Strange.

I think I can guess but what's the controversy about?

I think I can guess but what's the controversy about?

Rabid feminist, Twitterettes and Tumblrinas got mad that Black Widow wasn't a strong, independent and empowered women...Even though she kicks butt a lot in the movie and does some really resourceful and ingenuous things....They also got mad that she feels sad that she cannot have children and that she likes Bruce Banner...Even though that makes for a good story arc and character development...

So Joss Whedon got a lot of shite flung his way by these people...He then left Twitter but then like the white knight that he is, tried to do damage control by denying that in an interview with Buzzfeed...Except no one is buying it....

Personally, I think he deserved what he got for allying himself with these kinds of people and then trying to crawl back into their good graces....Perhaps I would have had some pity for him but he decided to trash people who are not feminists before for no good reason and try to deride other movies like Jurassic World for being "sexist"...

Thanks for the answer.

Personally, I felt her interactions with Banner were just not as compelling or interesting as those with Steve in "Winter Soldier" (The truth is a matter of circumstances, it's not all things to all people all the time. And neither am I.) and it came out of nowhere  but the claim she has been "depowered" doesn't hold much water.
First, her reasons for liking Banner were that all of her friends are fighters whereas he is a thinker. Meaning, she is the fighter in this ship.

Second, she, like you said, does a great number of things in the movie. She is not there just for shipping fodder. She gets Vision's body away from Ultron, she saves Cap numerous times, she controls the Hulk, she managed to get a message to Clint without Ultron realizing, etc.

Third, Bruce was the one who wanted to walk away. Natasha was the one who wanted to stay with S.H.I.E.L.D

Fourth, I'm fairly certain she has had at least two kids in different universes. One with Captain American, another with the Daredevil.

Goodbye Cap :P.

Joking aside, considering that Whedon isn't in Charge of IW the Russo might decide to pull off a resurrection of Cap, though I'm not sure they'll go that way.

About the cast's announcement, I'm curious to see Martin Freeman's role in CW.

I thought their relationship made no sense whatsoever. I remember every time Natasha talked with Bruce she was aways tense and wary, then when he actually turned into the Hulk she was terrified in a way we never saw before. Now with no explanation, they are in love? Say what? How did this happen? What were the circunstances? This all feels rushed and cheap for me. At least with Steve it had an convincing development were they started with an uneasy alliance that ended with mutual trust after having many struggles together. If they are going to give Widow a LI, at least give one that makes sense.

I also thought the whole infertility plot was kind of overkill. Wasn't being brainwashed by the KGB since young age hardship enough?

Speaking purely from a practical standpoint.

Making your female assassin sterile, when she's going to have to seduce and sleep with people during undercover ops, is a good idea, nothing is more inefficient for a killer than pregnancy.

After reflecting on it and watching the other movies, I now don't think they really work.

They don't want the same things and keep making decisions for each other.

Bruce wants to leave, she wants to stay so she chucks him off a cliff when the previous movie clearly established he can turn at will now.

Then, he decides to fly away on a plane rather than letting her decide whether she should be in this relationship. Clearly, they aren't working.

I was glad they didn't have her end the movie leaving her work (which we had already established as a point of contention) in order to find him. Instead, she stays to train the new Avengers. With Cap.

Whom she had a whole movie worth of character development.

And will both be in "Civil War".

In fact, I don't even know why Banner was even considered. If there is to be a romance, it should so obviously be with the Captain.

^ Tash was working as a Handler to the Hulk. and was more likely Seducing Banner at first to gain his trust.

but then it grew.

im wondering if thay kept the Redroom training like cannon is Nat about 60?

BYW to the Twitter Chick who thinks that Tash is the ONLY Female Marvel hero.

Do your reserch.

<sigh> It was a doomed romance, it wasn't written as a long term relationship.

The wrote the entire romance to set up
Spoiler

Besides, Steve is the obvious "safe" love interest for BW that I'm sure they will develop in future stories. I'm sure we'll see something blossom starting in Civil War.

Ironically, there is a Marvel female hero named Ms. Marvel. Who is getting her own movie.

But expecting intelligence out of people who use Twitter as their primary mode of communication is asking a bit much.

Captain Marvel :P

I would just stick to calling her Ms. Marvel, considering there's DC's Captain Marvel (now known as Shazam, but a lot of people still refer to him as Captain Marvel) and Mar-Vell Captain Marvel (the Kree character).

So I watched AoU recently. I was impressed, I was worried Ultron might've bored me, but he had humour, so that was good.

Black Widow's story arch was pretty well put together, it does portray her differently than in the other movies a bit, but I suppose that can be put down to Cap softening her up.

That Cap and Stark argument is really trying to set up Civil War, which is fine by me, I think their ideologies will make for a good dramatic scene.

I'll admit, the Thor ark disappointed me, I thought that pool was Hel, and that he'd have been taken there after a rebellion of sorts in Asgard (*Cough* Loki *cough cough*) and thought it'd tie in nicely with Ragnarok.

wtf Hawkeye has a life when did that start.

Please be Space Hulk set up, please go to Planet Hulk, or I'll sue Marvel.

Universal owns the rights to solo Hulk films (Yeah, this copyright thing doesn't make sense but that's what's happening), and Marvel is already sharing with Sony as is.

So Planet Hulk is not happening.

Same goes for him showing up in Guardians 2, James Gunn has said repeatedly it's not happening (And he's probably more focused on getting Rom Spaceknight in there)

I like the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk stories as much as anyone, but I've gotten really tired of people whining that the movie should happen.

After their respective movies come out I think that's going to change. They're going to be introduced to the general audience as Shazam and Captain Marvel. Plus Ms. Marvel is already taken by Kamala Khan.

I really don't see Marvel mishandling the copyright like DC. So these titles are pretty solid unless Marvel goes bankrupt again.
