Never played DAO nightmare , but I enjoyed DA2 in this difficulty.

Some boss were frustrating ,  I sometimes had a hard time controlling companions movements.

Also having Fenris and Carver in the same group , both two handed warrior, was a pain.

Now I'm not planning on playing DAI on nightmare , it's going to be on normal on first playthrough.

The thought of walking around with my party almost dead most of the time isn't really thrilling.

I prefer playing on harder difficulties provided they're challenging, not cheap. Smart enemies using tactics and abilities rather than bullet sponges with huge gamage. Sadly we see mostly the latter in DA series. High level mages and especially liches with mind flayers in BG2 are excellent examples of smart and powerful enemies. It's really depressing that the game from 1998 is miles better in combat and challenge aspects than the current generation games.

Both DA:O and especially DA2 had cheap difficulty, especially DA2 - hordes of trash mobs with low health combined with hit point sinks.

Nightmare is the only way!

- My thinking on difficulty in games is this (and it's actually quite solid thinking when it's put into practice).

When you first get a game, doesn't matter what genre... FPS, RPG... whatever... start it straight on the highest difficulty. This way, you don't know the game any other way, you learn to play the game at this level of difficulty.

If you started on normal, you pick up the bad habits which might include, not taking cover or simple not thinking ahead. It can become to difficult, more difficult than it actually is, to learn a different way to play if you've already spent 40+ hours on easy.

If you start on nightmare, or insane or whatever the highest difficulty is, you do pick up those habits because you cannot advance any other way. This way, the game actually becomes far easier because you have no comparison to make.

I've done this with so many games in the past. Halo, Call of Duty (don't play them anymore - they suck), The Witcher 2, The Last of Us, Battlefield. Just to name a few.

Honestly, next time you get a game, doesn't matter what game, try it this way. It becomes so much better when it actually presents a challenge.

...

Totally and fully agree. The only reason I do lower difficulties is, when there is a "hasn't died the whole game"-achievement.

By the way, that is the coolest avatar I have ever seen!  :o

Thank you. The bear remains angry though... not your fault, it's just his way.  :P

By all means do lower the difficulty if there is an achievement, I have done it before such as when collecting collectibles or just to experience the story again.
