I know I suggested asking about the other companions. Heck it took a long time before Oghren's stuff became an option, so fingers crossed.

Velanna on the other hand is alive most of the time at the end of DA:A unless you kill her in the woods. While being extremely annyoing, she has a good story potential and a strong background in the lore. Heck, they even planned at some point to use her instead of Anders in DA:II.
Velhanna would had make more sense, she had the potential to did what "anders" did... specially since Epilogue says most times that ANDERS FOUND HOME WITH GREY WARDENS... But what is butched is butched

DA2 is clearly more closely tied to the plot of DAI than Awakening. And it's also a full game, unlike Awakening which is just an expansion.
I agree that the story of DA2 is tied to the plot of DAI, but DA2 wasn't supposed to be a full game. It was supposed to be another large expansion for DAO called the Exalted March. That's why it didn't take long for it to come out and why most of the game seems rushed and many scenes reused.

Uh, no? Not at all.
Exalted March was a planned DLC for DA2, the content of which was instead rolled into DA:I

Exalted March is canceled dlc for DA2, not DAO.

Don't you think they would probably have gone with a war between humans and dalish elves, with Velhanna, instead of a war involving mages?

That was the plan, if I recall correctly. The plight of the elves would have attracted a spirit of Justice the same way the mages did. Except Justice got saddled with a mage and not an elf and so the concerns of his host were different.
Of course Velanna, being a mage, had both going for her...

If I recall the character correctly, Velanna was more angry against humans and didn't have much involvement in the Chantry, being a Dalish. Personally I am glad they decided to go with the mage plotline, since there are other games already centered on the battle between humans and non humans. Regardless of that, I agree that I would like to see all Awakening companions in the keep. Sigurn was a good one, though in all my playthroughs her fate turned out to be very very sad.

I think the Mage War plot for Dragon Age 2 was designed first, then the characters to go into it. That's why they ended up going with Anders instead.

Just because there are a few options for Awakening in the keep, doesn't mean people hated it. Right now the beta is focusing on major choices in the games.

Just to point out some choices in Awakening could, impact DAI but those choices do appear in the tapestry, like did Amaranthine fall does appear. I know it may appear as slight against the other choices that were available in the expansion, especially since they do have Oghren up but nothing about the other companions. Since Nathaniel does appear in DA2, I find it oddly perplexing that he is not included with the tapestry. Even if the what companion(s) were recruited and survived has absolutely no effect on DAI, even a faux choice in the tapestry would do a lot to assuage peoples concerns with a hidden hand wave to give the appearance that the players' action in Awakenings did mean something.

Nathaniel appears, he is under DAO Companions and Act 3 of DA2.

I did state that, but the perplexing part is: why is he not in Awakenings? The WC could have executed him, but that is just another check to be had for the dev team. (Sort of a way to make sure that the world state is value Like with noble sacrife with wc).

Clearly the most important missing choice from Awakening is kicking that caged guy into the lava.
He, uh ... could have been infected.
