How is 42 always the correct answer?

I barely passed my maths GCSE

It's the answer to live, the universe and everything.

It's a joke from Douglas Adam's "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy." were a really intelligent and advanced race build a supercomputer to find the answer to life, the universe and everything. The Computer worked for a hundred million years and the answer was: 42.

Because they have the answer to life, the universe and everything, but don't know the question to life, the universe and everything.

I'm ready for the 1/10 user reviews due to an unforgivable lack of long hair.

DAI will most likely score very high. I'm expecting a general A score.

Considering that review scores are pointless and outdated, and the game isn't even released, Sten_no.jpg

Probably 7.5/10 average across all outlets, with 8.5 average in RPG based outlets. It will definitely get a few 10/10 reviews from specific reviewers who really like the story and exploration elements of it, but I think it will probably get criticised for things like an unintuitive levelling system, uninspired dungeon design, and boring boss fights. It might even get points taken off for its storyline - I expect reviewers to say things like "it never really takes off" or "you don't end up caring very much".

The problem is most reviewers in mainstream outlets are raised to respond to a very specific sensibility, where they think adventure games like Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid and Bayonetta represent the pinnacle of game design. Then separately, they also have to concede the importance of games like CoD and Battlefield.

Reviewers with these kinds of tastes look at games like Dragon Age and think "these boss battles are not as inventive as those in Zelda" (even though beating them on higher difficulties might involve all sorts of deep tactical thinking beforehand).

They'll think "these level designs are too samey - where's the Water Temple and the Fire Temple?" (even though the world being created is clearly attempting verisimilitude at least to an extent).

They'll say "the levelling and crafting systems are boring and I just ended up giving up on them" (because they are impatient with games that demand a significant time investment and purely cerebral responses)

So they'll end up taking points off for a variety of aspects that I'm pretty sure I'll like. I don't think I'll take their scores that seriously.

Judging from what I've seen, anyone who claims these is an incompetent moron.

Seriously there's a whole underground waterfall thaig to explore ... and a dozen unique dragon fights we know of.

The fact of the matter is, if you judge a Dragon Age game by the first 10% of it, you're doing it wrong.

I don't know, man. If I trust anyone to give an unbiased look at it, it'd be Jessie Cox but I doubt I'll see video's from him before after a few weeks of it being released.

In The Escapist, I trust.

Even though I don't care that much about review scores, my guess is somewhere between 70 and 90. It's hard to guess right now though.

Haha! I wonder how accurate that Destructoid score is though, with Sterling now being at the Escapist and all.

Yes lets judge the game before we get a chance to play it, well no not really but if you were to take a guess of what you think the average review score for Dragon Age Inquisition might be based on what you have seen what would you guess?

Just curious to see what peoples expectations are and whether or not the final release can match or exceed them?

Personally it would be about 5/10 (the entire game's mechanics bringing it down from 9/10)

Professional critics, I am sure it will get many high scores, no matter if it is good or bad.

I just have one request to the guys at The  Escapist. Don't let that Greg Tito do the review of DA:I.

If the Dragon Age 2 was

"A pinnacle of role-playing games with well-designed mechanics and excellent story-telling, Dragon Age II is what videogames are meant to be"

shows that the guy has a very little idea about RPG games. I don't want him to misled people.

It was maybe his opinion, let him keep it to himself. From the professional reviewer I expect to clear, open minded review not some rambling on how DA:O was bad and how much DA:2 is better in every single aspect.

Considering that even DA2 has a metascore of 82, I don't see any coherent reason to expect many low or mediocre review scores.

Weren't a lot of those reviews from Bioware and EA themselves?

Metascore is based on critics reviews. Reviews from users are not taken into account.

User reviews will indeed be a sight to behold.

Though I doubt /v/ will swarm metacritic 1 minute after release as they did with DA2, it's still fun to look at the reasons people would give the game 0-1/10.

I'm guessing Dorian's moustache will be reason, not curly enough and all.
