In a recent episode of the colbert report there was a segment that talk about how women are portraiyed in video games. Now we know there have been many many thread on here about the portrayl of women in games and DAI especialy.

The head femenist who is behind this...outrage, showed a clip from the city elf origin story were the mean noble boy is trying to kid nap one of the "elf" women and he says "pick a ****** and lets go". Now i am reall curious were the feminest on this site stand on this issue. I thouhg it was really disrespectful of her to do that and she does not ecen know the devs. The dragon age devs try hard to make gender roles in DA equal.

Did she leave out the part where you can then totally kick all of their asses and kill them(and even as a female elf)?

Sadly yes that part was left out.

People will always find something to ****** about and will always take something out of context to prove their point (though there are always just as many good cases but even then those seem to get taken out of context). They get mad, their supporters get mad but nothing will change. They get to feel big about making a point and their supporters will ever learn more on the subject wherein they should come to their own opinion, to which they're entitled, or just take it all at face value by which their opinion is not theirs and therefore just repetition of another and therefore of little use to the argument other than to serve as noise

If we're talking about Anita Sarkeesian, I would say that it took me little under two episodes of her tropes in videogames series to understand that she's arguing in bad faith and is best ignored.

She always cherry picks her evidence and then makes broad assumptions. But cherry picking something from DA series is a really bad choice for her, because you can't accuse Bioware of sexism.

It was a tiny few seconds of a 30 minute critique. I think the DA example isn't particularly strong (she does present a lot of stronger ones in that video). The fact that there is such hostility to the point of death threats for such critiques is extremely problematic and thankfully the Bioware team have condemned the attacks on Sarkeesian and said that developers should be open to critique.

Is this the video in question?

edit: OH GOD, I just started listening to it and they're totally just misrepresenting the whole thing, claiming it's about sexism and a war against females. God. F**KING. DAMNIT.

Yeah. While she might have the odd point worth raising, they're inevitably obscured by the bias, misrepresentation and outright lies that form the bulk of her work.

However, before anyone jumps on me, that certainly doesn't excuse the treatment she's recieved from certain parts of the "gaming community".

People who sent death threats must be jailed. But some game bloggers started writing articles like "Gamers are dead", that's a incredibly stupid and inexcusable.

It's also very unfortunate that this is the part of the gaming community that people point to support their case. You guys sending the death threats are kinda making it true, the vast majority of decent gamers out there would prefer you quiet down a bit

Yes, when female critiques and developers get death threats... that is what it becomes about.

Whole debate and movement is about corruption in game "journalism". Game developers shouldn't sleep with game "journalists" who then write positive articles about that developer's game.
Game journalists admitted incestous relationship with game developers.

The hatred Sarkeesian and others have received violates ethics in journalism... what doesn't violate ethics in journalism is when a woman chooses to have sex with men who never even reviewed her game!

There are real cases of breaches of journalistic integrity in gaming such as when Gamespot fired a journalist for giving a bad review to Kane and Lynch. But the vitriol that has gone into the initial unsubstantiated allegation and all the hatred against women who have pointed out this sexism is misogynistic.

1. The people she allegedly slept with never reviewed her game. 2. IF they did then it is there breach of ethics not hers, but the sexism of this movement is focusing things on women and started by punishing a woman for her personal life.

Everybody gets death threats on the internet. And just because a few take part in that act(which the rest of GamerGate condemns them for) that should not change the entire focus of GamerGate. It is not about sexism or feminism.

There is a HUGE difference between a sexist game and a game portraying a sexist world. In this particular case it's not even sexism imo, but racism.
