yep...

though I have to ask. why do people pick on bioware games for things like this...

Its easy to cherry pick somethings with some of their games when making a wider point sadly.

But since we can't be politically correct on this isuse, its not a good sign when anyone cherry picks things its why the news is not has good for info on stories and why most people involved in politics can't be trusted, cherry picking things to me always weakens someone's point.

Just my view point, the city elf story if they explained more sorta shows a strong women rising up against those putting her down and bleh, really don't want to get involved in this.

What he said.

Now, Anita Sarkeesian does have a few valid points in her videos. Lets not forget that in MANY games "the female sidekick" is just there because they needed " a pretty woman who reads lines" and for pretty much nothing else.

But while I don't follow her closely, she does seem to have a nasty habit of cutting out just the parts which are meant to prove her point. So I'm guessing she didn't show how said female city elf proceeded to brutally murder her oppressors? Mine did in each case :)

That is very typical of her. She regularly claims a game is sexist because "something bad can happen to a woman", completely disregarding context, possible responses to that "bad" thing, let alone what is also happening to men.

The most egregious example was probably when she looked at one of the Hitman games. She claimed it was sexist because there was a scene in which you could kill a woman and drag her corpse around. Which completely disegarded the facts that (i) you can do the same to men throughout the entire game, not just that bit and (ii) the game actively discourages you from killing the woman in that case and she went out of her way to do so...

You seem upset.
If you hate and despise gamers so much, don't post on a game forum. Problem solv

upset? hardly, im not passing up the opportunity to ridicule and have a few laughs at someone elses expense when they invite it themselves

At least 90+% of what he says is sarcasm and not his actual opinion on things. The Colbert Report is built as a parody of the political opinion shows like The O'Reilly Factor.

you know things like this make me miss the days when gaming was jumping on mushrooms and saving a princess... now I'll likely get called a sexist bastard just for typing that...

Switched off at Ms. Pac-Man. Manifestly not funny.

It is funny. He speaks really loudly. That's how you know it's funny.

Wouldn't she be spouting the same nonsense if there were no women included in the game at all ("It's Misogynist because there's no women!/It's sexist/misogynist because women can get harmed/killed despite also being able to harm/kill as well!)? Seems it's "damned if you do, damned if you don't" with some of these types, despite it being an equal opportunity platform/game.

More like "damsel if you do, damsel if you don't." amirite?

Now games must be politically correct and include correct ideology, fun be damned. Reminds me my childhood when we had to put up with ideological crap in our literature and movies, when everybody just wanted to have fun.

I think the main reason these types of gamers get so emotional about these reviewers' opinions and articles is the fear of censorship and having the games banned due to the negative backlash received over comments from "reviewers" (I use the term loosely) like Anita and her following. It is possible for game developers to break up/fall out of business altogether because of such things, though fortunately even in this politically correct age we live in now that hasn't happened yet to my knowledge.

Films have been critiqued by feminists since the 60s//70s. "The male gaze" is one of the most commonly read essays on film. There has been no end to the production of film including horror films etc. if people believe that critique is the end of media they are being stupid

Between some of the christian groups, things like this, news groups and so on. We can at-least say gaming made it fully mainstream at-least...

Thought that would be a good thing...but ick. People want to memic games irl, and think games should reflect reality. Makes me wonder what some of my old head doctors would say on the matter.

She is in my opinion better off ignoring.

She only has the attention she holds at the moment because of the fuss people create around her.

The fact that you are so eager so insult and attack those you perceive as an easy target says much more about you than it does about them. Also, why would gamer be the only part of someones identity as opposed to a small part of the whole?

You're kind of kidding yourself if you think that's the case. His presentation of his news segments are meant to be a parody, but anyone with any sort of awareness will be able to see what he thinks about a given issue by how he's presenting it.

This isn't even about DA:I anymore. I would recommend people just let this die peacefully while it's not yet toxic. This whole debate is just going to get people riled up, and this is not the forum for that. I'm imagining it'll be locked sooner or later.

While I believe that playing videogames is a fun way to pass the time I don't believe anyone or mass of people are "losers" for vehemently believing in something that they love and have invested hundreds of dollars in for multiple years. The ones sending out death threats and hate messages need to step away from the console/computer and get a grip, the rational ones making petitions and handling things sensibly will be the ones to win the "good fight" in the end.

oh please, almost nobody takes Anita seriously, and when have any high profile games been censored over what a reviewer has said? Remember duke nukem and its over the top sexism, filled with other offensive ****? it wasnt censored, but its recieved bad reviews because it was a bad game, and most of these reviewers decided to skate over the sexism and offensive stuff anyway,

Cool you probably share the same opinion of gamers as Scerene, because that's what a lot of these "stupid" gamers are worried about; big brother/government taking away their video games. I don't deny it is ridiculous to jump to such extremes simply because a handful of reviewers give a game a failing grade or find issues/faults with it that others don't see. The film industry has changed in the past 20 or so years as well has the video game industry, it seems it's easier to slap an "R" or "NC-17" rating on a movie and/or relegate it to the indie-shelf whereas games and their developers come under fire very early into development for the smallest things and it's much easier for various watchdog groups and big government to issue an ultimatum to the developers or put the kibosh on a game altogether if demands aren't met.
