I take issue with part of the "How To - Check Syncing" information in that thread, namely that "you must be using the latest patch version" of each game. This simply isn't true. My DA2 is only patched up to 1.03 because 1.04 broke the Act 2 and 3 Sebastian quests. The Keep was able to sync with my DA2 characters just fine.
If you are one of those who held off on a recent patch for whatever reason, I strongly recommend that you only update as a last resort, and after waiting a decent amount of time for the Keep to "see" your characters. You should, of course, go with whatever works best for you and your games, but be sure that you are making the right choice before you have to go through a huge hassle that wasn't necessary in the first place.
Also not quite accurate is the statement regarding the developer console. True, you should not be actively be playing with it on, but it is an oversimplification to say that "if you ever enabled the developer console in the past," like having done so destroyed your game forever. Most of the statements regarding mods are based on various reports from players who were trying all sorts of things to get their games to sync with the Legacy BSN site. Those players may have had all sorts of involved mods, or very few simple ones. We simply don't know and can't say for certain if this or that mod, or the developer console, disabled someone from having their characters upload. It is anecdotal information, not scientific. Not all mods are created equal and IMO this type of language is only apt to confuse players who might then think that a simple hair mod broke their game.
It seems to me that in the effort to cover as many players as possible that the end result is actually only more confusion, which the player then has to turn to the forums to answer.
To be fair the OP only says "try loading the character without any mods active or installed", it doesn't definitely say that mods will prevent from syncing. I was able to load all my characters despite the massive amount of mods I have installed for both games, so it's not always a problem. On the other hand I am 99% sure that the developer console actively prevents syncing. It was absolutely my problem when I first tried to make my newest characters on the LBSN. It's very blatant because my characters showed up as soon as I disabled the console, and kept being updated as I played through the game. When I enabled the console all information and characters would stop being updated.
As for the patches I'll take your word for it, I have all the latest patches installed so I can't really verify it.

That doesn't take away from the fact that, by such wording, players will be confused and think that any and all mods are bad, which is just not the case. I've seen the posts on here, I've seen it happen.
Also, my issue with the statement about the dev console was in that she said, "If you ever enabled the developer console in the past," (emphasis mine) which seems to suggest that if you turned it on to give yourself a piece of armor and then turned off, you could have problems. It IS about semantics because that is the only thing we have on the internet: words; and unless you are very specific and detailed there can be confusion.
Various players here have come up with some terrific guides, and that is really great, but people will look to official sources first.

To me that sounds more like 'if you ever enabled the console in the past you will now need to disable it'. But I see how that could be confusing. They actually clarified what they meant with console and mods in a twitchstream (maybe the one from 2 weeks ago), so I'll try to find the quote and put it in the OP.

Yevhen & Nathaniel
If you're wondering why the Keep asks you to kill Nathaniel when you want to help Yevhen and his sons, it's because these two quests were mutually exclusive in DA2. Yevhen's quest will only trigger if Nathaniel died in Awakening. There was a bug in Awakening that meant that not taking Nathaniel with you for the final battle after leaving him behind in a fully upgraded Keep flagged him as dead, and so some people might have encountered Yevhen in DA2. This was a bug however, and has been fixed in the Keep.
If it is bug and they fixed it why I syill can't keep Nathaniel alive and help Yevhen?

Because the bug was Nathaniel being dead when he shouldn't be. Yevan's quest and Nathaniel being alive is intentional and not a bug.If it is bug and they fixed it why I syill can't keep Nathaniel alive and help Yevhen?

The bug is that Nathaniel is flagged as dead when he's actually still alive. Yevhen only shows up when Nathaniel is dead, so because of the bugged flag some people have Yevhen show up when Nathaniel is not alive in their world. This is a bug and should not possible. You either get Nathaniel's quest or Yevhen's. You can't get both.

Nathaniel lived in several of my worldstates but Yevhen showed up in act 2 and I was chillin with my bud Nathaniel in act 3. For the longest time I had no idea Yevhen wasn't supposed to be there, or that it was a bug with one of Nathaniels flags. ![]()

COMMON QUESTIONS
I've been on the forums for a while, and I've noticed a couple of recurring questions. Here's a list of some of the questions I could remember, with their answers.
GENERAL KEEP RELATED QUESTIONS
Syncing
This is the big one. Wardens seem to be especially troublesome. If you're having trouble syncing your Wardens/Hawkes you should refer to these posts here and here.
Note on the first link: Downloading the latest patches isn't always necessary, as some people have been able to sync their characters without problem with earlier version of the patches installed. As for mods, it is currently unknown which mods - if any - actively prevent syncing your characters to the Keep. If you don't want to download the patches (the latest version introduces a couple bugs), or you have such an enormous amount of mods that it would take hours to get rid of them you should explore other solutions first (second link above for example).
However you should always make sure that the developer console is disabled for both DAO and DA2. To disable the console you should right-click on the shortcut of the game and select Properties, and delete "-enable developerconsole" at the end of the 'Target' range. If this does not apply to you (you have the game on Steam, no shortcut etc.) you should take a look here for DAO and here for DA2 for more information. If you have ever enabled the console before it will not block you from syncing your characters now - you just need to make sure that it is currently disabled.
If none of these suggestions worked for you you can try downloading the standalone character creator for DAO, recreating your Wardens and upload them for there.
And if it still doesn't work remember two things:
- the Keep is still in beta, and the devs are still working on fixing syncing issues
- the sync only imports your character's name, class, origin, gender and portrait
Editing the name of your Warden/Hawke
The devs have talked about this in several twitchstreams. They're looking into it, but it's not currently an option in the Keep.
Your Warden/Hawke's appearance
Your characters' appearance isn't linked to the 2D portrait in the Keep anyway, and Mike Laidlaw has said on his twitter: "@Mike_Laidlaw: IF we were going to have one of your previous characters appear, we would absolutely give you a chance to change his or her look."
Deleting Wardens/Hawkes
If you would like to delete some of your characters from the Hero section, this option will be added later, directly in the Keep.
Missing DLC
DLC not appearing properly in the Career tab is a common issue, especially for people with the Ultimate/Signature Edition. The devs are already aware of this, and actively working to fix it. From Justin:
"Know issue, I've been working on some of our detection for owned products.
Its a lot more complicated than it sounds
but we are working on it actively... We just had to make sure open beta went smooth first and foremost"
Stuck on Hero Screen
If you re-sync while using a locked world-state you might end up locked on the Hero Screen. From Brian:
"You can fix this by changing the part of the URL that reads "fuex" to read "worldvault". Once that is done, unlock the world and you should be ok for the next time (or make a new, unlocked world, and select it before you run the sync tool)"
Having to re-sync when logging in
If the keep makes you re-sync every time you log in you should do this:
"Instead of logging in as usual by loading the tab or going to www.dragonagekeep.com. Follow this link https://dragonagekee...lt/#product/dao it's worked for one person so far."
Will my worldstates be wiped once the Keep launches officially ?
From Fernando Melo: "There's no plans to wipe, so what is there should be what you can use with DAI. That could change, as things are in a beta after all, but so far we've been fortunate in how its been built that we have not needed to, even as we expand the story choices available thanks to the beta feedback - so i'm not expecting that it would change at this point."
How does exporting to DAI work ?
From Justin: "Basically once you hit export we store that information in the cloud as Your Thedas
Next when you sign into your origin account the game can connect to Bioware Online Services (BOS, also the acronym for our team) and say hi I'm movieguyabw, DAI needs my Thedas.
Then we build the view (only data DAI cares about) and send it to the game where it digests all the information. All of this is using your Origin account to identify yourself on each platform."
CHOICES-RELATED QUESTIONS
First let me mention the DA Wiki, which is an excellent resource and will usually be able to answer all of your choices-related questions.
I don't remember most of my choices !
DAO and DA2 came out a few years ago, and so you may have trouble remembering all the choices your Wardens and Hawkes made. A couple of tips to help jog your memory:
- there is a ? icon above every choice in the tapestry, click on it and the Keep will give you some context about the decision
- if that's not enough you can go to the DA Wiki (linked above), and search for the quest name/character name etc. Most quests have their own detailed page
- you can also try this website, which will take you through all of Origins tiles
- and also this website, which details some of the obscure choices in DAO and DA2
Romance
Generally speaking the Keep only takes into account romances that were still active at the end of the game. So it's currently impossible to reflect in the Keep a Warden or Hawke that romanced one person, only to end up with another. It also means that some choices lock you out of the romance: Giving Isabela to the Arishok for Isabela's romance, Not killing Anders for Sebastian's romance etc.
Connor's possession
Connor can only become possessed by the demon if you are using a mage Warden. This might lead the Keep to prompt for some seemingly random changes, for example: you can only marry Anora if Connor is not possessed.
Morrigan's human baby
It is only possible to have a human baby with Morrigan with a male Warden who romanced her and didn't do the Dark Ritual. If you had a fling with Morrigan but ended up with Leliana or Zevran you won't have the option of having a human baby with her, you need to choose 'Romanced Morrigan'.
At PAX Australia Aidan Scalan said that the option of having Morrigan's baby while being in a romance with someone else should be possible, and that it would likely be added before the end of open beta.
Final Blow
If Morrigan had the old god baby with anyone (the Warden, Loghain or Alistair) then it means that the Warden will be the one to take the final blow. If Morrigan did not have the old god baby then the person who takes the final blow will die.
Orlesian Warden
The Orlesian Warden does not have a tile in the Keep right now, and the devs have said that though they're planning on adding it eventually, it won't happen before launch. If your Warden died in Origins, it's assumed that the OW made the Awakening choices.
Amaranthine & Keep protected
To save both the Keep and Amaranthine you need to fully upgrade Vigil's Keep (silverite armor for your soldiers, granite for your walls etc.) and then choose to protect Amaranthine. The epilogue slide will then tell you that the Keep resisted the darkspawn assault for several weeks, and eventually the horde broke upon its walls.
Cullen friendship
If you're not certain what that tile means, rest assured that you're not the only one. No one's really sure what it means, but the general consensus around here is that it's more of a worldbuilding question aka: How do you want Cullen to speak about Hawke in DAI ?
At PAX Australia Mike Laidlaw said that this tile should have been taken out already, that it didn't make sense and that it wasn't tracked in DAI.
MISSING PLOT TILES
The Keep might have a lot of choices already, but there are still some tiles that are 'missing'. There have already been polls for DAO and DA2 about the choices we wanted to see in the Keep, and there will be more about DLC. Keep in mind however that any plots added now will have no impact on DAI.
In the previous polls the options were (in order from most votes to least):
- Genitivi, Caladrius, Gaxkang
- Arishok's respect, Varania's fate, Xebenkeck.
Some other popular requests I've noticed:
- the boons at the end of Origins - probably won't be added (I think they talked about it in the last twitchstream)
- Friendship/Rivalry and 'Hardening' companions - the devs have said that it would be pretty difficult to implement
- more Awakening and DLC tiles
- this post keeps track of plots requested on the forums
Feel free to correct me or suggest more questions !
EDIT: Added a couple of entries.
EDIT 2: Added info from PAX Australia.
EDIT 3: Added info in syncing section.

No. You can use the Keep even if you have never played Dragon Age at all.
The Keep does not take any information about your decisions or actions from your save games. You have to recreate those decisions in the Tapestry. This is the same whether you have played 100% or 0%.

Unable to delete world states.
I accidentally created two too many world states. Now I can't delete them. I get an error saying I must have at least one world state. I have 4 lol
I reported this bug a long while ago. When you create a new state it can't be deleted until the Keep page is reloaded. But that's all the work-around needs, to reload the page, and then you can delete them.

I don't like how the Nathaniel & Yevhen quests are handled in the keep - I played both games with all of the patches and now it doesn't allow me to set my playthrough right. So what if they were supposed to be mutually exclusive, when in fact they weren't? It's not like there are any conflicts between the two quests since they are not really connected plot-wise, and the exclusiveness is there for the sole reason so that people with dead Nathaniel do not feel hurt on the amount of content.

They were mutually exclusive, if you tried to force both to trigger (which I did on one of my playthroughs), the game freaks the fudge out. You can finish the Nathaniel quest, but it is very clearly bugged when you do so. The Keep is meant to represent what was possible in game without bugs. There was no way to get Yevhan's quest while Nathaniel was alive short of using the console, therefore the Keep does not represent that possibility. Either set it to how it should have been (with Nathaniel alive) or set it to what it was actually was in DA2 (Nathaniel dead and completing the sons quest). Your choice.

Two suggestions
1. Make the title say "common issues and their fixes"
2. Make this at the top in big letters "Stuck on the syncing loop and can't visit the tapestry? Use this link instead https://dragonagekee...lt/#product/dao

If I put every topic that still regularly comes up in the title it'd be 3 lines long. I'll still try updating the title and see if it helps.

What I meant was just say common issues and their fixes. Not put all the common issues there (it gets over long and confusing)
While the Import loop bug is the easiest

They said they're still working on it, so I'm not sure when exactly it'll be fixed. But it doesn't have any impact on DAI, so even if it's not fixed before launch it wouldn't be a problem.
