Hi everyone,

This place has certainly changed eh? Been a long time since I was here. Not too much of a regular to be known, but carried a groovy feeling about me no matter which thread I entered.

Anyway. As the title suggests, I'm back to play Dragon Age Origins - Ultimate Edition for PS3. To be honest I'm also thinking of going back to the 360 as some of the best multiplatform games play horribly on PS3, where as they're like playing in a work of art for the 360.

Anyway. Sorry about this.

Basically I'm going to use this thread for help and advice if thats ok. I've played the game countless times and still it feels like a new game to play. So below are the first set of questions I want to ask.

1: As well as the gold exploit (which isn't really needed), can you still do the trick with the skill tomes to give yourself that extra bit of punch, especially when it comes to meeting the Harvester. If not then no worries.

2: I started playing around 16:00 this evenind and its now 18:55 and I've just arrived at Ostagar. Created a fine specimen of a rogue duel wielding demon slayer I must say. But most of that time was spent reading all the books. Is there a place online where I can read all those groovy books without losing actual game time? Not that I want to rush the game, but I have a life where I need to work and stuff and in my spare time I'd love to play the bloody game :P

This will do for now but no doubt I will have more.

Many thanks

All of the codex entries can be read on the DA Wiki. A more attractive (and immersive) alternative is this site, which actually looks like the in-game codex... but it also does not include the entries from DLC.

3: For my rogue character I will also be aiming to unlock the traveller trophy. I know that a section of this map needs to be unlocked during the thief quests in Denirim. Can you tell me how many points I need in stealth, lock picking and stealing.

4: Is the Starfang sword the best in the game?

5: What is the time scale between the first few missions. I know that you need to save the Circle of Magi if you wish all to live in the Redcliffe quest, but how many can you do before people start to die at Redcliffe?

3. Slim Couldry: http://dragonage.wik...ki/Slim_Couldry You just need Stealth and Stealing.

4. Is it for your rogue or for another party member? If you're a dual-wielding rogue then you'll sacrifice dexterity and/or cunning to get the strength points to wield it. If you plan it for another character, then yes, it's at least one of the most powerful. It will not transfer to Awakening though.

5. You actually don't have to help Redcliffe at all. It's a nice thing to do, but you don't have to save the Circle to do so. You only need to save the Circle (and Irving) if you want to cure Connor. No lives in Redcliffe are lost if you leave, go to the Circle, and go back to Redcliffe.

Just to clarify that answer: DAO's main missions aren't timed. E.g. your Warden can do most of Redcliffe, leave for the Circle, then complete every other main quest and come trotting back no one hurt. Or if you were, say, to leave the Dalish for last, they wouldn't complain about more setbacks than if you went to them first. Some sidequests are locked off if you complete a specific main quest, however, and a bunch are locked off after you finish every treaty (and basically enter endgame). The one exception is Lothering, which will be locked off to you when you finish one treaty, no matter which it is.

However, note: if you so much as leave Redcliffe while they're still preparing for the undead invasion, everyone dies. But the undead invasion is only "just about to happen" after you arrive there. Once that big battle's finished, feel free to just walk to the other end of Ferelden.

Thanks chaps,

Basically I want my character to be good and do as much good as possible. What I thought was that Connor was on a time scale more than anything. I've always tended to finish the Circle of Magi quest first, then I'd do Redcliffe and save Connor with no one being sacrificed.

My next character will be a bit more of a hard case though, and so I will sacrifce anything to get the job done, and done quickly. Type of thing.

Always preferred being a good character as you tend to have more gameplay rather than the quick buyout type option.

Hey do you chaps know if there was ever an editor made for the PS3 version?

Just to have some fun with on  my next few playthroughs. Awesome stats, etc.

You don't need the Slim Couldry missions for the Traveller achievement/trophy. I've never done those but I still have Traveller.

Yeah I got the traveller trophy no problem. Ended up with about 99% or maybe even 100%.

I've just started Awakeing. Now in the past I always used to play this in the same order because on one occasion I was unable to recruit a grey warden because a cutscene to trigger the end happened.

What are the best options to go for and who should I take for groovy stories sections that I may not have seen? I used to always do Knotwood and then the deep roads and finally Black Marsh. Do these have to be done in a certain order or can you mix them up without any consequences?

If you do Black Marsh last, you won't miss any Gray Wardens as Kristoff/Justice already is one.

Awakening in general is quite buggy, so save often and in separate slots.

4: Is the Starfang sword the best in the game?

Depends on the spec of the character you are using.  If you are running a dex/cunning build then I will say no just because of the 31 strength requirement.  Return to Ostagar DLC you can get Maric's Blade that doesn't have a strength requirement at all and has a rather quick attack speed that Starfang does not.  With the momentum talent it almost like using dual daggers.  Also MB will follow you into Awakenings when Starfang will not.
