I never played a dragon age game before. I'm thinking about getting dragon age 3. I will read the story for part 2 on wiki. I was just wondering were there alot of side quest in 1 and 2? I would like to know if alot is in 3 but of course no one knows yet. I will just assume 3 has as many or more than 1 and 2. I love side quest. Helping people, finding things ect. Also how interesting were the side quest for 1 and 2? I like when some have small interesting stories to them. Thanks

Yeah there are quite a few side quests in Origins and 2, and I can imagine there will be more in Inquisition because it is open world.

Both games had a huge amount of side-quests, you could even argue that -in fact- there is more side-quest content than there is of the main-story line in both instances (although that may depend on what you consider to be a side-quest, since I would argue companion quest-lines fall under that definition, while other people believe they are essential to the story).

How interesting the side-quests are really depends. I would honestly say however that Dragon Age: Origins had vastly more intriguing side-quests than DA2, which had more cookie-cutter "Kill x bandits" & "Find x item and bring it back".

I'd encourage you to play the games for yourself. They're quite worth it for the story even if the gameplay is a bit dated.

Yes, and with the arrival of the open beta for Dragon Age Keep, you can be brought up to speed on the important ones.

It's said that DA3 will be an entry point for people who had never played the previous two games. However it will still be very interesting to play both games since there are lots of details that you might recognize on DA3. That alone often gives a lot of satisfaction while playing :)

I suggest you have a look at the keep and fiddle around with the story to get how the "main quests" or at least the most notable quest went. As for the wiki, it's maybe best to have a look at character, location and lore description rather than reading the questlines. There's a lot to learn about dragon age if you feel up to the task

As others mentioned, checkout the Keep.

I enjoyed the games. Both had a lot of side quests. I'm sure there will be a lot in DAI. If you really want to know about the previous 2 games, and you have the time and money, pickup DAO and DA2. I purchased the Ultimate edition of DAO about 2 years ago for $19.99 and got DA2 for about $10.00. This is only a suggestion.

Or go on youtube to see if its something that may interest you.

I believe at one point they said the main story quest can take up to 50 hours and side quest can take up to 100 hours. So ya, there will be plenty of side quests.

Oh man the side quests are AWESOME in DA:O. DA2....not so bad, although too many fetch quests for my taste. And too many random killings. But yes loves me some side quest, and loves me some Dragon Age. And I'm sure you will too :)

You could try reading the novels and the comics. The novels in particular can stand alone without any knowledge of the DA universe, but will give you plenty of insight into some of the lore behind it all.

You'll learn about the blight (which was the backdrop for Dragon Age: Origins), and King Maric, Cailan, Loghain (important figures in Ferelden). You'll learn about the Grey Wardens and how and why they fight the darkspawn. You'll get background to the Origins expansion, Awakening. You'll meet some characters from the games, and hear about others. In one of the newer novels, The Masked Empire, you'll learn about Orlais and what led to the civil war that is raging as we start Inquisition

They won't give you a blow-by-blow account of what happened in the games, but they'll do a good job of really fleshing out Thedas' history and lore for you so you'll feel a lot more at home once you press play next month.

And yes, as others have suggested, perusing the Keep for a while would familiarise you with many of the quests of Origins and II. Listening to Varric's voice-over story is a good idea, at least once, although it will change depending on what you input in the Keep. Bear in mind that if you do go back to play Origins and II you'll have had a decent amount of story spoiled for you, but if you're anything like me you'll forget half of it by the time you come to it anyway :D
