So I'm looking to get into Archery(I want to use a Recurve bow), but I need some help/suggestions. Right now, I know that my draw length should be about 28 inches(I'm 5'11[does draw length just determine the size/length of arrow I'll need?]) and that my left eye is dominant, so I'll need a left hand bow. What I don't know is what draw weight I need. I'd say I'm above average strength for most people my age(I'm 19), nothing amazing though and I've never tried archery before. My friend who does have a bow says that hers is around 30 pounds in draw weight(she thinks this is the one she has http://www.walmart.c...an-Bow/14037536). She suggested as a general rule that whatever weight I could pick up with one hand I should be able to pull back on a bow(granted, she's know archery pro, so I'm not sure how accurate that is.). Also, general rules/suggestions for somebody looking to get into archery?

Go to a club with a range and try them out. Assuming of course you are going to join a club.
Theoretical numbers are nothing more than a guess and are largely dependant that you actually know how to properly draw a bow (for which the draw lenght is way more important than draw weight). Going there and finding out first hand with leased bows is the best way to find what your sweetspot is.
Just lifting a weight with one hand is different from how you draw a bow as it's a different motion. If you start with too much draw weight, you won't be able to pull it correctly. If anything, I guess she meant that whatever it is you can lift comfortably with one hand is a good starting point, rather than what you can lift before it's too heavy.
Other than that, have fun. I did half a year casual archery, but had to quit when we were moving places.

Draw length is how far back you have to draw an arrow to about the corner of your mouth, right?

Correct.
That is the most important aspect to start with. Though I'm not much qualified to say much more with only half a year of playing around. Like I said, go to a club and let its trainer teach you. If you've got a friend who's experienced with it, why not meet up with her and let her fill in some blanks.

That's what I was gonna do, mostly just to see if her bow's draw weight was a good fit for me or if I needed a heavier one.
