Didn't Leigh Alexander say something about her "being game journalism"?
I remember reading something like that and thinking, "How far does X have to be up your Y to say something like that?"
Tuned her out after that.

I really think Film Crit Hulk's article on gamergate should be here.

I tried to play the first game on 360. Combat was great, but the story was so hard to understand I dropped it early. I watched it played instead.
Bayonetta herself is cool as *expletive* though.
An absolute badass!
Nah, the problem is that people are actually discussing the actual topics she brings up but an extremely small number of people claim to be part of that group, attack her, she gets loud about it, and then people jump to the conclusion that "people attack Sarkeesian herself instead of discussing the actual topics she brings up" implying its a widespread thing. Which makes the group actually talking about it(people in this thread, ourselves included) painted as villains.
Her getting attacked is an issue, but its one of several that don't need to exist. Being attacked is not permission to attack others.
Every single thread about her on this forum has been more about her credibility than the actual points she raises, including this one. I'm not only talking about the actual harassment she makes, I'm talking about how people make it about the messenger instead of the message.
I heard Sarkeesian couldn't name three video games during her time on Colbert's show, that true?
She said she can and chose not to, because it is more important to talk about the industry as a whole than to focus on a few of the worst offenders. If she had named three video games, everyone here would be talking about how she "cherry picked" those three games.

Damn, she was on Colbert? How long ago was that?
Riiiiiggghhhttt.
In her defense though, if she makes so many videos on games, I think she could easily name 3 games.

There's martians in Zimbabwe. I know where they are, but I won't tell you, its not important, what is important is that space travel should be a thing

Ishten, I'm gonna repost these videos you linked, because after watching them, OH MY GOD THIS LADY IS YES
BE MY MOM, LADY

A formal debate between her and Anita? Yes please!

She should've named more than three. Take the question and turn it on the questioner by giving more than you're asked for, instead of deflecting.

It would rock. I'd love to listen to it. Would be reminiscent of the debate between that creationist-scientist and Bill Nye.

Not gonna happen, Sarkeesian would get logically curb stomped and her professional "damsel in distress" act would get outed.
That hulk one is too in-character and way too much for me to commit to, pls shorten hahaha
Read it.

It would be sooooo fun to watch though. 1 sided formal debates is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I know right?
Specific examples in logical arguments? Pfft.

YES! +10
Omg that's exactly what I was thinking of too dude! ![]()

True, I agree with that. That would have been a good opportunity to heighten her credibility in my eyes. That said, I was just saying that she could easily name 3 games.
Reposting this lol. He completely hammers her on the Hitman thing.

It's really not worth it to engage in this line of conversation, Nuggins. She clearly can name many games because we've seen her do so in the videos. This conversation is the equivalent of the middle school:
"You can't name <insert something everyone knows>."
"Uh, why should I have to name that? Everyone knows that already."
"Oh, see, you don't even know <thing everyone knows>"
I legit have not seen this argument since I was a high school teacher.
I haven't read through this entire thread but I just want to say that I think that anyone who believes that sexism against women is rife in gaming and is a serious problem must not be very familiar with video games.
When I was in high school if a student made a claim like what she did, was asked for examples, and a deflection was made, the teacher would hold us accountable for it and keep asking until we gave examples. We were taught to be ready.
Lets not pretend this isn't something that could've been pushed. Three specific examples would not have been hard to give if she wanted to add credibility to her statements, so why not?
