Sounds good to me. I prefer that they take their time with story DLCs and make it as good as it can be. I would really love to see an expansion DLC like Awakening, Dawnguard and Dragonborn. Loved those DLCs.

Genius takes time to create. Awakening is arguably the best DLC BioWare has ever done. They could take tips from BGS and take time to build something truly special like Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Shivering Isles, etc.

Yeah. I love BioWare's SP DLCs for Mass Effect and DA2, but it's just much more satisfying to sink your teeth into a 20 hour installment rather than 6 hours at a time. Usually I end up buying the $10 DLCs when they come out but not playing them until they are all out and finished, then doing a full playthrough.

But an expansion is its own experience with enough time to immerse yourself.

Not sure it's going to happen, though. I'd bet a $10, 5-hour DLC every 3-4 months is a lot more profitable.

Well, the first story DLC for DAII was in late July 2011 after an early March 2011 release. If that schedule is kept for DA:I, we should be seeing story DLC sometime in April 2015 or so.

That was a Day 1 DLC if I recall correctly. Included with the Signature Edition.

I'm pretty certain they said at some point that we wouldn't get full sized expansions...sadly. I really want something Awakening-sized. They said the ending would leave the world still in a chaotic state so I assume there's still plot threads left hanging. It'd be nice to see an expansion focused on whatever those plot points may be and getting ready for whatever DA4 may bring.

But hey, if we get 5-hour campaigns that are Legacy quality, I won't complain too much. They're probably going to take the Fallout route with dlc this time around and make each dlc its own new explorable area.

I'm pretty certain it was day 1 dlc included with all new copies of the game.

Not thrilled, but it's not exactly unexpected. I just hope that a CC patch/DLC is not too far behind. That's the one thing I care about at this point, since I've put my most anticipated playthrough on indefinite hiatus until more palatable options are available, and I'd rather not wait too long.

Yup. Same with Sebastian.

And for DA:O, it was released in early November 2009 with Stone Prisoner(Shale) and Warden's Keep available from the start. Return to Ostagar was supposed to release for the holidays, but was delayed due to a bug infestation. It released in late January(early March for PS3). Dragon Age: Awakening was released in mid-March as an expansion rather than a proper DLC, and had content to match that description.

So that's a development time of about 5 months, just like DAII. That seems to be Bioware's timetable for DLC. Seems pretty good to me. I can dissect Dragon Age Inquisition in 5 months. It's not like I'll be playing many other games in that time. Too many playthroughs.

I agree entirely. Smaller DLC packs in Mass Effect were entertaining, but overall short-lived. I only really felt Arrival and Shadow Broker were really worth the money in ME2, and they were still relatively short.

Awakening, on the other hand, felt like a true continuation of the main story. It was similar in approach to BGS with Bloodmoon, Tribunal, Shivering Isles, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn. Massive new area with plenty of quests and a whole new story to explore. It certainly requires more money and more effort on the part of BioWare, but I believe the payoff makes it more profitable and beneficial to BioWare overall.

In the DA:I PAX:Aus Twitch stream (which *just* finished and I imagine will be posted on YouTube soon...), Mike Laidlaw was asked about DLC plans and he said they are going to focus on multiplayer first. The plan, he said, is to release free DLC including new maps and characters for multiplayer, just like they did for ME:3.

Laidlaw said that any hypothetical story DLC wouldn't come until later (probably not until Q1 2015 at the earliest, but that's just my guess based on the fact that he stressed that the entire team is exhausted (understandably so!) and isn't planning on working on any story DLC soon...)

What do you guys think about that??

I was kinda hoping the first DLC they'd release would be like the Black Emporium, with a "face melter" and (hopefully!) some new hairstyles and casual outfits for the Keep (and maybe a new outfit to wear at the ball)... :)

Either this, or release a toolkit so modders can take that project over.

Single player story-based DLC is expected to take longer. No rush.

However, I do hope we get a hairstyle DLC!

PVP would be so much fun with this combat system - hope to see a team deathmatch map DLC at some point.

As for the story DLC, I'd love to see a big expansion with new gameplay features that add to replay value, new talent trees, specializations, crafting, etc., make it fun to go back and play through the entire game again. Awakenings was really well done.

Well then don't let the door hit you in the way out!

I think an expansion that takes place in Nevarra and features the dragon cult and Cassandra's royal family would be pretty neat! Plus, we'd get to fight mummies, which would be awesome!

Doesn't bother me; any single player DLC I'd be interested in is more story-based and character-driven, so I'd like them to have an adequate amount of time to put the proper amount of work into it. Generally that seems to be at least 3 or so months after initial release, which seems fair to me. Not to mention I'll be perfectly busy replaying the main game with different characters for the first few months, I'm sure.

If it's free, why does it have to be DLC? Why not just include it in the base game?

Because they have a limited amount of manpower and also because of strategic marketing decisions. If they release the free MP DLC over a period of time, it keeps people interested. New classes or new areas or whatever means a reason to come back and play it some more. Think of it in the same way that MMOs release expansions but on a much, much smaller scale. It's to retain player interest in the long-term and also make sure your development staff isn't overworked trying to cram everything in.

Furthermore, the MP is considered side-content. It's much smarter to release a basic version to gauge people's actual interest and usage. If they decided to include all the possible content planned initially and not enough people play it, then it would've been a huge waste of resource investment.

It keeps people who play MP interested. Whether or not it keeps people who play SP interested is a different question, but presumably the economics favour MP.

Considering all the time and effort they're still putting into the game to have it ready for release, it should surprise nobody that it will take time for them to create more SP content.

that's fine, seems like there's alot of Content in the game already. But I won't touch multiplayer, that's just me.

Sounds good to me. I really enjoyed all the ME3MP DLC.

Here's hoping we get at least one more expanion-esque DLC like Awakening.
