I may be wrong on this, but I'm currently setting up a bit of a mean character, and as such have left Redcliffe to their own devices.

However the Keep allows me to 'Not Help Redcliffe' and then 'Help Redcliffe Prepare'.

I would've thought a conflict should appear, since I'd been under the impression that if you left Redcliffe, you left the village to get decimated, and as such shouldn't be able to help them prepare for the 'Attack at Nightfall' later...

There's no conflict and it isn't a bug. Before you leave Redcliffe you can help them with the smith, give support to the knights, make some extra people fight, etc. That way Redcliffe can survive even if you don't help them in the fight (though I think it's not a complete victory).

Oh, okay. Thanks

Lol I either denied the aid request from, I think his names Tomas, and then never returned, or assisted straight away.

Never bothered returning or exploring, until the mission had timed out.

Yeah, most people don't know that it's possible to help Redcliffe prepare since they leave straight away. Plus it's usually evil characters that don't help so helping them prepare has an even smaller chance of happening.

I just tested that. I prepared the milltia and the knights and such and when I left and came back everybody still died.

Could have sworn there was a way to get some people to survive. Oh well. Maybe it's just to make the choice to abandon them less evil.

Yes, the whole thing goes to hell unless the Warden is there.

"Helping them" means defending the village no matter what else you do. Really, getting the armour for the villagers and coaxing Dwyn to train them is more about helping yourself than it is about helping Redcliffe.

The fact remains that you can still help them all prepare and still leave the people of Redcliffe to their doom...  It seems silly that the Keep can record that(since, again, everyone still dies), but maybe it's important that the Warden wasn't an uncaring *******, s/he just didn't feel like physically helping Redcliffe with it's undead problem.

I guess Sten is returning like Hawke or Morrigan;

Sten approval was highly boosted by my avatar warden in Redcliffe: helped them to prepare but left them to their doom (except Bella) maybe Sten would tell actions made by "Kaddan Warden"

It´s not sten anymore, it´s arishok now :P

I'm almost certain that what you said is only true if you give Sten his sword Asala.  After all, if Sten doesn't get Asala, he can't go back to Par Vollen.

He returns to Par Vollen regardless of Asala, he has a duty to fullfill even if it kills him (that´s how the qun works).

Fair enough.  The point was Sten likely won't be Arishok if he doesn't get Asala back during the events of Origins(Sten also probably wouldn't be Arishok if Hawke let the Arishok take Isabella from Kirkwall).

Let me think for a second here ... but the important one for future games would still be the arishok, not a lowly sten  The warden would still be recognized as a Kaddan by the reports of sten (dead in your scenario), and hawke as a Basalit-an (very much alive). :P

Kadan or not is ultimately irrelevant to the qunari invasion. Sten said as much to the Warden and that, if you played it right, was a genuine friendship. The qunari are still coming and will still be enemies to the peoples of Thedas... unless they convert.

The Arishok's reluctant bestowing of "basalit-an" on Hawke won't mean a darn thing in the end.

Since she escapes him with the book again. I doubt he will keep his position no matter what. There is a possibility that the one to replace him won't be our Sten (well, he wouldn't be Sten at the time since there is I believe another rank between Sten and Arishok, he would have to get promoted to that one first).

Here's a real one: you can die defeating the archdemon and still follow Morrigan through the Eluvian.

Here's another one: you can annul the Circle and still save Connor without sacrificing Isolde.
