I think the main point has been missed here PC version of DDE is only available on origin and origin has a mark up of 25% of retail prices in the UK that is main problem, most if not all UK retailers selling physical copies are at or below £39.99 and origin is £49.99 for the same content. I've seen the SD edition selling for as cheap as £28.99 but I don't trust that site as they claim to be selling just product codes.

PS and Xbox user can get DDE at retail and PC users can't I get VAT and other taxes apply but why does Origin have a 25% mark up over retailers selling a physical copy?

Retailers?  Plural?  What retailer, other than Amazon, is selling DAI at a significantly cheaper price than it is on Origin?

What Retailer isn't?

We can't see what brick and mortar stores will sell it at yet, but as far as digital stores go that send out physical copies i haven't find one as expensive as Origin yet.

Every retailer in the country sells at around the same rate as Amazon is doing, because that's a standard price for a PC game. £30-40 has been so since the dawn of time, until Origin decided to come along and price gauge.

I guess I don't see what the issue is then?   Why are you complaining about the price on Origin if you can clearly get it cheaper somewhere else?   Buy it there then.   That seems simple enough to me.

Here's the kicker I guess.   Prices on physical copies HAVE to be cheaper anymore to compete with Digital versions.    If they don't entice you with a lower price, why on Earth would anyone still buy a physical version?

Are you complaining that you want to have the digital version on Origin for the same price as the physical version?    That's not how things work.    They offer the physical version cheaper so that you might actually buy it that way.    You get it cheaper, but you also have the drawbacks of paying for shipping (if applicable) and having to wait for it to actually arrive.

Convenience often comes at an additional cost on most everything in this world.    The 'cost' to the manufacturer for a physical DVD to be pressed and boxed is literally pennies, and honestly is probably cheaper than the cost of bandwidth in some areas.

I just checked GAME (probably the largest game retailer in the UK) and they're selling copies of the PS4 and X1 versions for 44.99 pounds. If you check above the price, they state it was 49.99 pounds from 09/12/2013 to 24/06/2014. It seems far more likely to me that the RRP is 49.99 pounds in the UK. If stores are selling below that price, then that's their choice to make.

What I'm seeing is that it's a Ten pounds cheaper for a boxed copy of DAI...  And EA doesn't sell boxed copies of DAI... And you can't buy the digital version of DAI from Amazon...

If you don't want to pay 10 pounds more for the digital version, don't.  I'm really not seeing the issue here.

Because there isn't a physical DE for PC available in Europe, only the totally overpriced version on Origin.

It's different here, the standard digital copy is cheaper than the standard physical copy. However, we don't get the option of a deluxe PC edition, you have to buy the Inquisitor's edition to get the extra stuff.

Prices all for PC and are in AUD or Australian Dollars.

Standard digital: $79.99

Digital deluxe: $89.99

Standard physical: $89.95

Inquisitor physical: $209.00

I still buy physical copies as it'd take a couple of days to download huge 40g+ games with my internet speed. Thanks, but no thanks

Consumer choice for PC is the issue you can only get the DDE on PC form Origin if you live outside the USA, if you own a PS or XBOX you can get the DDE form outlets other then Origin.

Prices on Origin are 25% higher then other retails selling the standard game and as such they marked the DDE up with the same price hike.

So the issue truly boils down to the lack of a physical deluxe edition?    In that case, buy the standard edition and wait for the inevitable 'upgrade' package that will likely show up after release.

Amazon offers free release day delivery.  And the digital version is effectively included in the physical edition.  So there's no real convenience advantage to Digital, and potentially quite a lot for Physical if, like me, you don't have good internet.

Though you're right it's not worth complaining about unless you want the deluxe.  It's just decidedly odd.

I was curious so I checked the price and all available options on all platforms.Seems like they are all over the place where I live.

Interesting things.

- Retail in both cases is much cheaper.

- Console games here are way overpriced in compariosn to PC.

- If you wanted to buy it for PS4 digital it is better to go with PC reatil - you can get almost 2 copies on PC for single digital copy on PS4.

PC

  Origin: 43€ (54$ 33£)

  Retail: 36€ (45$ 28£)

PS4

   PSN: 69€ (86$ 54£)

   Retail: 53€ (66$ 42£)

PS3

   PSN: 66€ (83$ 52£)

   Retail 54€ (67$ 42£)

XBONE

   Retail: 60€ (76$ 47£)

XBOX

   Retail: 54€ (67$ 42£)

We have a winner here. Here's a current price wrap up for UK options:

Amazon physical standard: £40

GAME digital standard: £40 (beats Origin)

Best price digital standard: £28

Origin DDE: £60

Consumer choice for PC is the issue you can only get the DDE on PC form Origin if you live outside the USA, if you own a PS or XBOX you can get the DDE form outlets other then Origin.

Origin is PC only, or am I mistaken? PS4 and X1 use the PSN and XB Live for their digital distribution, don't they? What other outlets can you get the PS4/X1 DDE from? I can't see the console DDE for sale in Amazon, GMG or GAME.

Also, you know that the DDE and Inquisitor's Edition are aimed at the "Shut up and take my money" crowd? If you are complaining about price (as I am), you clearly are not part of this group.

OK so would there be an option to buy an physical Standard edition for PC then upgraded that to a Deluxe via origin for £10? or is that asking for too much?

I'd also like to point out, that we had to fight to get the physical Deluxe edition included with the C.E.  Why they are charging so much?It is just like the previous poster stated, they have a monopoly.

You can get physical copies of the deluxe at game on XBONE and PS4 i've just looked but console games cost more in the UK then PC games in general for some reason, the do sell DIgital version of the DDE of PC in the USA on amazon for $10 more then then SD so what not globally?

I can afford to buy the DDE but I dislike being forced to buy it from one location i'd like some consumer choice, I'd like to get the physical items you get with the XBONE or PS4 version for example rather then the digital versions.

I don't think anything has been officially stated about an option to upgrade from standard to deluxe.    Based on what EA has done with their other recent releases, its probably a fair bet that something like that will be offered through Origin around release day.

They, of course, want you to buy it now, so won't mention that until later.

Again, the RRP for the standard edition of Inquisition is (most likely) 49.99 pounds (going by console prices). If price has come down on different retailers, that's the retail store's choice. Origin, as a digital-only distributor, has chosen not to reduce the price. To be honest, this is probably the reason why retailers decided to shave 10 pounds off their price in the first place, in order to compete with digital services. So, yes, Origin charges you an extra 10 pounds but offers you the convenience of preloading the game and playing on day one. Retailers shave 10 pounds off the RRP but you'll have to pay shipping costs and not every retailer can assure you day-one delivery.

And I haven't even considered the (very real) possibility that retailers and publishers have agreed on the price of the digital version in exchange for retailers to actually sell copies of the game in the first place (why do you think PC gamers are still paying $60 for digital copies of a game?).

Maybe someone else who knows what goes on in upper EA management will answer your questions but you need to stop confusing DDE and DE. DDE stands for Digital Deluxe Edition and DE stands for Deluxe Edition. It is therefore impossible to have a "DDE physical" because that means digital deluxe edition physical.

To me it just seems like EA is milking it. Especially when the Witcher 3 currently costs £34.99 on steam and  £41.49 on GOG and only £28.00 on amazon.
