The WiiU was too clever for its own good, what it needed was hardware on par with Xbox One & PS4 not more gimmicks that got old very quickly.

Yeah, people who've never handled a WiiU say all kinds of stuff about it. And yet, the differences it introduced are interesting, like asymmetric gameplay.

And we could do a whole critique of the current generation of consoles and games and PCs - let's not.

Agreed. I consider myself a Nintendo fanboy (I guess I used to be), but decided to sit this one out for that reason.

There are some games I'm itching to play though, so I just might get one still...

And if you're thinking that, asymmetric coop multiplayer in the new Zelda is pretty neat.

Bioware made nice use of the gamepad in the ME3 port, especially if you play with the Pro Controller. In that case, in multiplayer it shows the scoreboard full time, in single player it shows the map wherever applicable.

And now I'm bailing on this thread while it's still civil. Which may be a first for a mention of the WiiU here.

ME3 on Xbox 360, PS3 & WiiU runs at 720p/30fps. On PC can you run ME3 at any resolution you want even 4K and beyond provided you have a PC capable of doing so and the framerate is locked at 60 fps by default.

Last gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS3 & WiiU) and even the current gen consoles (Xbox One & PS4) cannot do 4k gaming, hell they are even struggling to get 1080p/30fps in most AAA games. On PC 4k will enhance the image quality greatly provided you have two or more Nvidia Geforce GTX 980s or AMD equivalent in SLI/Crossfire. You can do 4K gaming at 60 fps, that is 2160p/60fps (4 times the resolution of 1080p/60fps) only if you spend a lot of money. But most PC gamers can easily get 1080p/60fps from a significantly cheaper PC and that is what a lot of PC Gamers play their games at currently.

All that is no good to me if it don't support gamepads. Even if it does, most play with keyboards and that would always put me at a disadvantage in a shooter game like this. As much more skill is required aiming with a gamepad VS point and click mouse (but if ME3mp for PC supported gamepads, I would still start that account ASAP).

And for all online games I've played (well, just ME3 and Dark Souls 1 & 2), the user base was always way greater on consoles (and for a game like Dark Souls this is very, very important to the overall enjoyment of the game).

Then there other stuff like game chat for games like ME3mp.

So yes, higher resolution and especially frame rate is very, very nice without a doubt. There are still other factors at play. And why I usually always play my games on consoles over the PC counterparts despite losing on some really nice bells and whistles. Otherwise I'd be master racing 24-7 since I'm one that has access to all consoles & pc. And I'm not the only one with access to all versions of a game but still mostly play on consoles for said reasons.

FTL pls

Now I would love to know what the people who used to say that between 30 and 60 FPS there was no difference.

No one ever reasonably claimed there is no difference, I'm sure. The difference just isn't life-shattering either way. Of course you can find the extreme views of "Huh, 60fps is indistinguishable from 30fps" and "OMFG playing at 30fps will make you sterile and I'll puke on your carpet from the pain" but most people know how to value that kind of stuff.

Yes they did, checking on your profile I see you are here ( at least with that account ) since Feb 2014, back when the game was released there was a lot of war between PC and consoles and people claiming there was no difference, actually even last year was still in that way. :P

A few weeks ago I capped my frame rate at 30 to try to help with off host lag. It has noticeably helped, but I've also seen significant changes to on host game mechanics. The AI is dumber, and it's much easier to evade fire and dodge warp balls, rockets, etc. I mostly play off host, so it's not usually a factor, but when the host migrates to me, I can really tell the difference. I can't tell as much from a purely visual standpoint though.

Nobody who claimed a lack of difference between framerates ever brought facts, insights or anything coherent forward to support their position.

Meanwhile, a number of excellent community members with no agenda gave us clear examples and explanations of the differences that we on PC experience daily.  Differences that affect performance, mechanics, gameplay and difficulty.  Truth.

Interestingly, Bioware was completely oblivious to the subtle yet fundamental coding error that leads to this behavior.  Meh, it's their first MP game and they did a lot of things right so I'm happy to give them a pass, but this goes in the same bin as their statements about soloing platinum.  Biower pls.

Despite these elegant, logical proofs there were still plenty of ignoramuses who responded with disbelief, denial and defamation.  And there still are I'm sure.  Welcome to the internet.

With respect to console difference, there's enough of ammo that you can pull from the proofs that let you argue PC is the better platform to play on.  There's also enough to show that occasionally PC is a pain in the ass: 120fsp hosts, 20fps hosts, major fps differences within a team as examples.  Even so...

In conclusion:

It'd be interesting to see what percent of the player base has finished a Platinum solo. I'll bet it's pretty small.

PC is the better platform to play on.

Depending entirely on the meaning of "better", a word that often needs some careful examination.

No doubt.  At the same time a number of active community members managed on the first day of its release.  The devs were pretty surprised, to say the least.

I don't disagree.

I could see the number being significant, but also a small percentage of the total base. For example, 10,000 is a significant number, but is still 0.1% of 10,000,000. It'd be neat if they made more stats available. Maybe in ME4?

ME3 sold 3.5 milion copies during the first few weeks of release, and it's probably conservative to estimate 5 million copies sold. I'd be surprised if there were many thousands who had completed plat solos. They seem routine because there are a handful of people who do them regularly and post here.

Someone was joking about confirmation bias a couple weeks ago. That's what's going on here.

I was just throwing up arbitrary numbers as an example, but I agree. This place is full of the best of the best of the best, but there are still plenty of pugs out there struggling on gold with a full team. C'mon BioWare, flash us some juicy stats!

This is true, when I and some people started soloing gold back when the game was released it was seen as something almost impossible, only very few select people in this forum could do it, but after the knowledge spread it became a much easier feat to achieve, most of the PUGs who still struggles trying to solo is not because of skill, is more because of lack of knowledge and as you pointed out, BSN is full of the best of the best among the best not because we are a bunch of skillful people, but because here we get all the information about the game we need to do whatever we want.

So basically yes, there are a lot of people out there who cant solo even gold, as well as there are some over here to who cant solo plat, again, not for lack of skill, but for lack of patience or some knowledge ( mainly the first one ).

Anyways, spicy chicken for me is better than steak. Come at me bros.

I hadn't forgotten who posted that - hence the "someone" in my post.  :D

Regarding PC gaming vs console gaming, I would just like to make the remark that there's a quality/time trade-off as well as the rather large one of cost (since the rig that FTFTL uses to look down at consoles costs an order of magnitude more than a console would).

PC gamers spend hours on configuring sound, video, mouse buttons, etc. And hours downloading and installing updates for Windows, for games, for drivers, etc. Even with automated updates it takes time and adds delay. Console gamers simply turn on, sign in, and start playing. This may be worth something to many people.

That has to be placed alongside the more extensive coop possibilities for when your friends are around. I can have 4 people playing Black Ops II together on the sofa on my Xbox, and 5 people playing some of the WiiU games like Metroid Blast and Luigi's Mansion. Yes, playing on the high performance PC I just acquired is a delight, but it's different. Just different.
