In games where you can customize your PC, lots of players attempt to play a version of themselves. For DAII, obviously it's not going to be exactly the same, but I was wondering what the choices would be in that case. Picking a gender is the most obvious choice, the difficulty would be in picking a class.

How do you decide if you are a warrior, a rogue or a mage, especially since magic does not exist?

I was inspired by this thread - http://forum.bioware...-tall-are-they/

Choosing your specific height to pick your race seems like as good a idea as any. What similiar method might be used for choosing your class?

Well I can't think of an actual mathematical way for deciding what class you'd be but you can choose by looking at your abilities. For instance I'm a bit short, pretty good at archery, I can be very quiet when I want to be and I'm not particularly strong so I'd probably be a rogue. If, on the other hand, you are very stong, quite tall and so on you'd probably be a warrior. There's no actual way to work out if you'd be a mage because magic abilities are completely random and can come to people of any shape or size so I'd just recommend choosing whether or not to be a mage out of Role playing reasons.

I almost never play as myself in games. I always roleplay as said in game character, especially in Bioware games. As for games like The Elder Scrolls same thing goes except I stick to certain rules to not break out of character aka do only quest that fit said character. I guess the only way I can play as myself is in something D&D like. My problem with playing as myself is what role/class I fit, along with alignment?

I tend to give most of my female characters green eyes and longer hair..that is where the similarities stop for me. :)

no such option in this "game"... only humans allowed plus Hawke lacked of the willpower to be like me

The only game I ever attempted to play as myself was Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The character creation offers a quiz where you can pick answers that suit you in real life and then the game chooses one of the clans based on your answers. Beyond that, I've always chosen whatever has appealed to me most. I don't think I've ever tried to even make a character look like myself.

I think one possible way of choosing a DA class based on real life can be in terms of their role in combat. Warriors tank, Rogues DPS and mages do crowd-control and run support. Or in other words, Warriors draw attention to themselves and confront things directly, Rogues like to stay hidden and out of sight and do their work in the shadows and Mages work best in groups, lending their unique expertise to make things easier for others.

By that admittedly weird logic, I'm either Rogue or Mage.

Some of my characters shares a few personality traits of mine, but that is where any similarities end. I don't even pick same hair/eye color as mine so they'd look a little like me same goes for gender. Personally, I'd be bored out of my mind if I ever made a video game version of myself.

I love playing RPG's because of the amount of choices I can make story or gameplay wise, and I believe if I restricted myself to playing as myself I'd miss out on a lot of content.

Playing yourself, really doing that, would definitely limit options. In DAII, it's not even really possible, as someone pointed out. Hawke would only be superficially me, if I ever went that way. On the other hand, playing as yourself can be the greatest power fantasy. Honestly, I'm more interested in figuring out how I might fit in the game's world than actually literally making myself the protagonist.

I never play as myself, as I find that a bit limiting. The only similarity between myself and my characters is that almost all of my female wardens have long hair, but I just like the look of longer hair on characters. I don't choose that feature because my hair is long.

Besides, I play video games to temporarily escape real life, so making a character representative of myself sort of defeats the purpose. :D
