I'm an old guard who left for a good while and has come back to see if any of the other old guard are still knocking around, and to help get myself even more excited for DAI.

It's good to see a new influx. It means there are more people to share the excitement and passion with :)

Anyone remember aufgestockt, and fftl (fight for the love)?

Thank you for this thread. I've noticed some hostility towards newcomers, and it was starting to bother me.

The hostility is good... gives them backbone, teaches them to take the s*** that comes with the good... It all helps.

can't see how hostility on an internet platform gives someone backbone. It's more of a lesson not to take things to serious, especially on the internet with all the people suddenly forgetting they had been teached manners. I find this kind of insensitivity rather unfortunate than good.

I was joking. Of course I don't think hostility is a good thing. Exceptance is good, no matter who requires it. I suppose I should have put a smiley face along with it or something to make it a bit more obvious as a joke. Sorry if I have offended or upset.

No.. no.. I'm sorry. Didn't get this one. I took it serious, maybe because it's too easy to see a little bit of truth in it, whether I like it or not.

Looking back on it, it does come across as serious. Don't be sorry for pointing something out. If you don't get it, then something is wrong with it.

Welcome to the BSN!

Newcomers, you may have read the World of Thedas. It was a good buy, no doubt. But I have one tidbit of advice...

If you say "Kossith" instead of "Qunari"....

You must be ready for the onslaught.

been bioware poster since they piggybacked on black isle (now obsidian's) old forums, having no forums of their own. same name and all

don't post as much but still pay attention.

i was a bit slow in signing up for their new forums, as you can see 2996 posts since october 2009, that's not exactly prolific compared to many here.

You know, i've been visiting this forums as a silent ghost from time to time ever since the hype train for DA2, but decided to log in only this week. Guess i needed more distractions to deal with the anticipation.

Um, onslaught? Why would there be an onslaught?   Nice to meet everyone by the way. Just joined and I've been having fun so far.

There should really be a list of hot button topics for newcomers.

  • Kossith vs Qunari
  • Gay Toggle
  • Toggles in general
  • Decapitating Leliana
  • Complaining about hairstyles
  • Comparisons with the Witcher

Anything I've missed?

Some people insisted on using Kossith, an archaic lore term, instead of the Qunari race to avoid ambiguity.  When things got angry, Our Lord And Saviour David Gaider stepped in to say Kossith was obscure and we shouldn't expect anyone but hardcore DA fans to know the term.  Now soe people jump down the throats of anyone who uses Kossith.

Awesome topic!

I remember when it was BSN. I liked having other titles beneath my name, like KOTOR, Jade Empire

Welcome to forumites!  :)

So no shaking our canes at the new people and telling them to get off the lawn?

Very well!

Welcome to everyone new to the forums who most likely is reading this.

I'm not a new forum member, I'm more of a lurker.  I would like to say that the new forums are much more welcoming than the old, and are just generally a more pleasant place to lurk (and occasionally post ).

So, what's the term for those who were here even before the BSN was a thing (i.e.: the blue/black REALLY old forum)? Grandpa Guard?

I've seen a change on the forum recently - there are a great many new folk turning up, posting and asking questions - which is great. The Keep and other marketing is finding many new folk and driving them via FAQ links to this forum.

This does mean that for many established BSNers* we need to be open to this influx and not get grumpy if questions that have been debated many, many times are asked again.

So for new visitors

  • welcome - this is a vibrant forum and whilst we do have our disagreements (cough), it's a much nicer place to be than some of the darker corners of the internet. If you ask for help and information (ideally by briefly checking what other threads and sub-forums exist already, and asking there) you will surely get it.

For the old guard

  • The party just got a load bigger, so I think we need to be open and supportive of that. There are going to be a horde of new folk piling in here over the next 6 weeks, so we need to be 'Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!' as the song goes. Next few weeks are going to be mayhem.  Maaaayhem...

Are you new to the forums?

*(BSNers, established members of the BioWare Social Network - the old name of the BioWare Forum, which frankly has stuck  :D )

Thank you for the welcome! :)

Think I posted a couple of times back in the ME1 and ME2 days... But couldn't remember my account name.

Been stalking this forum all year. ;)

I think this is the fourth version of Bioware forums I've been on... admittedly I haven't used this one very much. But, with DA:I coming that is likely to change.

There was the BSN, and before that the NWN-era forums... and I'm pretty sure there was a version of the forums before that where you didn't have much of a legitimate account, back in the BG2 days. I remember needing to re-register under the same account name when I came around for the NWN stuff, anyway.

Still, I haven't used this forum more than a couple of times since it was created, so I feel new here.
