I'm a newcomer! :wizard: I've only lurked in the ME forums though, and I mostly enjoy the posters there.

I think I'm at that stage where I'm still too new to be taken seriously. No one has tried to oppose me... yet. Once they finally realize my potential, it'll be too late.

Hello! :)

I'm a new comer. I am a bit lonely in my dungeon.

Can anyone keep me company? We will have dinner or I will have dinner.

As to the OP, part of the problem is that you kids change your names all the time. How can we tell a true newcomer from some forum regular who just got bored? The effort of checking name history obviates it when I'm feeling especially lazy (most of the time). ;)

This, this, THIS. A thousand times, THIS.

I like that people have the ability to change their names at will, as being tied down to one screen name can get stale and having to ask permission from a mod or something is a hassle (not to mention a bit intimidating to some people). And yes, the Name Change history makes his all transparent, but it's just not something I'm ever going to do with someone I see and think is a random new person. Except for some of the BSN superstars, I likely don't know who most people used to be/are, even if we've had in depth discussions before.

I guess if they had a hover-over option on the forums, where if the cursor is over a screen name, it will pop up a mini-window that can display some info not currently in the poster information, such as the last three screen name changes. Just a thought.

I'd also like to say it is a huge honor to even be mentioned as an example of past BSN glory. I had zero intention of creating a thread of that magnitude starting out and it was fed and grown by the support of Dom and many others. It was a blast and something that I had a lot of passion for during the six to nine months it was in its hey-day. I wish I had that same fire to bring it back to life, or for another thread or project, honestly.

I think what may be a problem with Off Topic is that there is little motivation for me, personally, (and I can assume others) to be ON Topic for Bioware games. Meaning I just don't feel that much attachment to their games these days, really. Which begs the question of "what are you still doing here?" obviously. The people here that make this place fun (when I recognize their names at least LOL) are really amazing and hilarious folks that keep me hopping on here pretty much every day.

There's a line of thinking that judges the quality of a forum based on the amount of unique, new content that the forum creates. I think there has been some amazing threads created on here over the years that show the quality of the BSN, I just think it takes some great imagination and work, like Crusty's current Darkest a Dungeon LP. I think that's a sign that while some people have left, there's still good stuff to be seen here most days.

Heh. My ratio of phone BSN visiting over actual computer surfing is close to 10,000 : 1. If I'm at my computer, chances are I'm going to game.

Brah, the name change thing is so goddamn annoying hahaha. I want to know who people are but when they change their handles it becomes annoying. Its fine if you still know who they are and can get used to a change, but sometimes they change it, you don't notice, and then you wonder where they went when its still them. Gah.

As for the "why are we still here" bit, yeah. Community. I mean I still play Bioware games and post about them, but I have other likes and interests I want to talk about, and here's as good a place as any to talk about them. Talking about Bioware products nonstop like some do would drive me crazy, I need to shoot the *expletive* with people about various things.

I mean, I have over 10,000 posts in the MLP thread alone. Bahaha(probably also drove me crazy)

Basically, came for the Bioware games, stayed for the community. Same thing happened on another forum I used to be on for a band;came to talk about the band's music, eventually stopped listening to them, but stayed on the forums for the community and off topic section.

Feels good talking to some of the oldies here, and I wonder what newbies will stick around and have a positive rep around here. I just hope less of the nasties stick around, you know the ones. Its one thing to spam, but its another thing to be those special snowflakes that hate hate hate and cause actual grief.

I feel like we've seen it all at this point. hah

The main reason I keep coming back is the interminable music thread. So many people have posted music that was unknown and different that it stays fresh and interesting.

The only other thread that I have stayed involved with for a long time is the one I started. It lets me post cat pictures. :)

I'll be quite honest I regularly forget Dragon Age Inquisition exists. I got Alpha Protocol two weeks ago and regularly forget I own the thing. I've fallen into a place of playing Japanese games, then just going to gaming sites or forums where there is kind of a political twist to everything and reading about just random ideas or historical facts or something. It's more like the learning center than a regular source of entertainment but that's not really a bad thing.

I haven't forgotten Inquisition, I'd just rather post about other things. It gets tiring covering the same subject over and over, especially if you're not continuing to play it.

Mass Effect- 12 playthroughs

Dragon Age Origins- No clue but several

Mass Effect 2- 16 playthroughs(15, then one of Mass 3, then the last to correct some decision making)

Dragon Age 2- Once(because it was bad)

Mass Effect 3- 4 playthroughs(eww)

Dragon Age Inquisition- Once(because it was quite long and I completed everything in one go)

I had plenty to talk about Bioware game wise over the years, but Inquisition I've beaten and I've moved on to other titles.

I made an Ori and The Blind Forest thread I wished more people posted in but its a smaller game on X1 and PC so I get it.

I know that I'll be contributing to the Witcher 3 thread when that game's getting ready to launch, same for TES VI.

Next Mass game, dunno. Mass 3 burned my love for the franchise to cinders so I don't know what'll happen there.

I'd rather just post here in OT until something grabs me back into the Inquisition section like say an expansion.

I guess what I meant is simply that even when I'm not interested in the Bioware's games as a source of entertainment, I'm still interested in like, the people that make them, their opinions about random things, etc.

I'm cool with Bioware's lads and lasses, but the DA section sometimes gets nuts over the most ridiculous of things. A Bioware dev can say something like, "I ate cheese this morning" and it'll draw insane amounts of love and attention;that gets old fast. I want something relevant to the games I'm playing with a lighter dose of the stuff like that.

Right now it seems more like its all about that stuff and less about the games. Or the games get shoehorned into conversations about random stuff. Its weird. I felt the dynamic was way better back in the early Mass and DA days, especially around the pre-Mass 2 period. THOSE were some good days.

I don't know if I would, but I have been trying to understand why this happens.

I don't know if its "hero worship", but it comes across that way at times. And I get that the Bioware employees' lives don't revolve around the games, so of course they're gonna post about their day to day. That makes sense. But the love and adulation is kind of nuts.

There's less than savory ways to describe what I'm trying to describe but I don't wanna be the one to put it that way. Whatever it is, its a little off putting.

Hey, as long as no one and nothing's getting hurt its all good, right? So its not like it needs to stop;it just doesn't really work for me. I'd rather the devs meet us here and talk to us as equals, like we are. But the reaction they get from people sometimes makes them look like deities in the eyes of some fans, and thats just...yeah.

Agreed. But until every random employee of Bioware was free to post their newest shoe purchase on Twitter or Facebook to be reviewed by hundreds, if not thousands, of fans (depending on the employee). Can you envision any dev making a forum post like that? The nature of a forum is (usually) to have discussion on a topic, not update with random thoughts, events or pictures like social media.

And it's easier to say something while saying nothing in 255 characters or less, which can just build hype without actually informing people of any details. That's harder to do with a forum, where a discussion usually would result when a Dev got involved with a thread.

I don't know. To me, social media is much less productive at communicating, so it results in much less meaningful information being shared.

Yeah. I'm bummed that Bioware's been using social media more to get word out. It makes sense, you reach more people that way, but come here first to your most dedicated and let us in on it ahead of other places, give us something to work with. Usually WE have to grab it from out there and bring it here.

Then there's the fact that the forum had its social media focus removed and Bioware pretty much went with it. At least it feels that way. Its not the case since they still come here, but it just feels...not like it used to.

This is the downside, but compared to the social platforms. This place has a smaller flow of information and when it comes to the social mechanics and usability, other platforms are just so much better.

I agree with your point tho
