I don't hate Hawke, and I don't really have a problem with he/she being in inquisition. Still, this seems like another step toward sweeping the Warden under the carpet.

From a technical and storytelling standpoint, it would be impossible to include the Warden in a meaningful manner unless BioWare gives him/her a voice and a personality, much like they did with Revan in SWTOR. Otherwise, he is just a dis-embodied, disconnected, shell of an avatar that players would control for the sake of the game.

I hope there is a way to avoid this... I don't like Hawke and I wished for the developers to forget the existence of DA2.

And of course, we will be lucky if the Warden appears at all. Because, well, we need people to forget Dragon Age Origins and feel the awesomeness of Dragon Effect 2 and Diablo Age Inquisition, the Skyrim Connection.

Unfortunately for you, DAI is really just a sequel to DA2 as many of the same events and characters are persistent through both.

The Warden won't be present in the game at all. BioWare already confirmed this. However, his presence, or at least that of the Grey Wardens, will be prevalent in the game.

Dragon Effect 2/Diablo Age Inquisition/Skyrim Connection? That sounds interesting.

"Hawke has no personality"

"Hawke is loser"

"Hawke is boring"

"Hawke s****"

...seriously?Hawke is anyone you make him/her to be.So if your Hawke has "bad personality",if your Hawke is "loser" and boring and etc....then it's because it's you the one who made your Hawke that way.So next time before you say Hawke is boring just try to recall who was person that made him/her so.

Dragon Age 2 was a sequel to Origins.

And I think that's self explanatory. Take it as you wish.

It really isn't which is what is ironic about the game. In fact, if you remember at the start of DA2, Hawke's family is fleeing Lothering, which is just being attacked by the Darkspawn after the fall of Ostagar (near the beginning of DAO). Then, the game goes into the future after the events of DAO fully explaining and establishing Hawke's origins and how he became the Champion of Kirkwall.

If you actually notice, the entire accounts of the game are retold by Varric, who is being interrogated by Cassandra. As far as the present is concerned, DA2 actually takes place at the start of DAI when the Inquisition is about to be formed. There really is little continuity between DAO and DAI other than they are in the same world and some characters cross over between both.

As far as DAI, with the exception of Hawke not being the main protagonist, it is a true sequel in every right. The effects that happened in DA2 are directly affecting the events that take place in DAI. To not see the parallels is to have entirely missed the point of how important DA2 actually was to the franchise.

While I don't hate Hawke as a protagonist at all, I always liked my (city elf) warden a lot more than I liked any of my DA2 characters. It's a bit disappointing that she doesn't make an appearance in DAI...especially because Leliana (my warden's love interest) plays a prominent role in the game.

Yeah, I get that. I just hate that my Warden is getting shafted in lore because of an rl issue.

Hawke is/was loser. He couldn't protect his mother, and it was so obvious how this is going to end.

Oh mother you you're going to meet with some unknown suitor tonight. That's great. I am going to look for serial killer. Have fun, will meet you later.

Yeah, but no. I didn't make him to be a loser. Writers did that.

I agree. I enjoyed the Warden-Commander's story immensely, even if he didn't have a voice. I'd like to see BioWare return to him at some point to truly bring closure to his character and end his legacy on a high point.

Yeah I can see why that would be a problem. I never ran into problems like that myself, my Hawke usually cracked jokes so most auto-pilots reflected that.

How do you feel about her going to be on permanent auto-pilot in Inquisition?

Mostly ambivalent.  It would be nice if her auto-piloting fit my views of the character, but I expect her to mostly be angry.

And that might be okay too.  I like to see my Hawke as being sick of Kirkwall by the end of DA2 and if she's been dragged into the war she tried to prevent then I can very well see her having become more aggressive still, so I could probably make it work as long as she isn't kicking puppies and beating up the elderly.

We are not talking about moving a mountain here mate :) bioware can easily put the wardens appearance in game. They just dont want to.

Beside the quest regarding the warden will more likley end up as a wild goose chase.

I had a playthrough like that planned out simply for drama's sake, but decided to hold out for Hawke flirtation instead.

If it did come down to blows it would be highly amusing along the lines of trying to keep both Keldorn and Viconia in your party.  Oh man, now I've got the urge to see if I can complete a BG2 game in two weeks since I never did play the "new" version.   :P

BG:EE is in a straight race with Wasteland 2, SR returns and divinity orginal sin for best RPG of the last 5 years

You are completely right...he should have said "Oh mother you are going to meet some unknown suitor tonight. That is great. Please don't mind me if I stalk you like complete creep tonight.Don't worry mother stalking you is what 'cool kids' do since you see mother I'm not able to predict future so stalking you will do."

You are so right..."stalker Hawke" that stalks his own mother and wants to control her private life and that has thing called Oedipus complex is so cool! How could writers not give him Oedipus complex?Shame on them for that.

Considering that Keep takes a record of Hawke's general personality (Diplomatic, Sarcastic, Aggressive), the "auto-pilot" should at least partially fit your views of the character.

Although choosing "Aggressive" will most likely make her/him extremely unlikable, just as playing an agrgressive Hawke made pretty much everyone in the game dislike Hawke (I think I had friendship only with Anders, and partially with Fenris, the rest was on full rivalry :D).

I loved sarcastic Hawke. Easily one of my most beloved Dragon Age characters.

I truly hope they'll be playable.

Nice one. So the serial killer is running rampant in my neighbourhood, but my mother meeting with some unknown man is not going to bother me.

Can't protect her because that would be stalking.

IRL, I would do anything to protect mine, you can call it whatever you like. Sorry I am not going to agree with you.

Oh and BTW. Oedipus complex has nothing to do with it. You are so wrong with this assumption ... I am at lack of words here, if you think that "this" would be the reason ...

Certainly BioWare could slap a half-baked Warden-Commander in DAI and upset the entire Dragon Age community. Why would they do that though? If you are going to try and approach his character properly, may as well do it in a way that makes sense and doesn't seem underwhelming or come across as a disconnect to fans. There are serious hurdles to overcome (his/her various origins and the lack of voice as well as a personality) before BioWare can correctly approach this task. I hope they will do it eventually, but that's something they aren't willing to tackle at this moment.

I agree it could upset people if not done properly, but.......

Bioware is not that kind of company, in the latest games fans were quite agitated but it didnt matter to them, they seem to follow a code: "fans are angry now but they will calm down later"

Which is what i have critiziesd them for the latest 3 years, The problem will not go away if you stick your fingers in your ears and humh very loudly.

But that's just it; I didn't pick the aggressive option every time.  I just ended up picking it more than anything else in general quests because of how I felt my Hawke would respond.

The only people I rivaled were Merrill, Anders, and Sebastian, and I did so intentionally because of their political views, not because I didn't like them or wanted them to hate my Hawke.  I don't want my Hawke to be an unlikable dick; but she certainly isn't constantly sarcastic nor constantly diplomatic / friendly / reasonable.  If I had to choose of the three, she's aggressive, but she's very selectively aggressive.

Ah, yes. The Irony.

Dragon Age 2 was not a sequel to Dragon Age Origins. As a matter of fact, is a sequel to Dragon Month 2. The 2 was the name. The name was the number. We understood the thing upside down.

Really, if you start with this... Dragon Age 2 was a sequel to Origins. Discuss this seems... comical.

If someone could give me a detailed example of how Bioware could incorporate the Warden into a game in a meaningful way, I'd be down for it, but I just can't think of one. The Warden is too much *our* character, they can't possible write for them, imo

I have reservations about Hawke on this level too, but I do think it can be done (esp if we control them) whereas with the Warden...I'm at a loss.

Im in the same boat... My hawke was very aggressive but not in all situations. She was friends with varric, romanced isabela. and very humourous with most of the companions. Im not sure if i wanna say she was sarcastic or aggresive because I want her to be her aggresive self, but she wouldn't be aggresive to someone like the inquisitor.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Leandra was snatched off the streets in broad daylight? There was no "date" with a shady character involved.
