Have you changed your mind regarding pre-ordering DA:I?

Not too long ago I was rather adamant about not pre-ordering DA:I, mainly because of how I allowed myself to get hyped and therefore fell flat on my face with both DA:2 and ME:3 (each for different reasons).

However, after seeing gameplay footage on quite a few videos, and seeing the work that was put into the Keep, I changed my mind.

Am I being an irresponsible consumer yet again? I don't know.

Am I happy that I can't create my female qunari blood-mage, the ultimate outcast Inquisitor?

Hell no!

Do I like the 8 abilities restriction?

No. More like hate it with burning passion, I don't need MMO-style restrictions in my single player games because of an arbitrary "balance" decision, or because the console-makers prefer hampering everyone else to making their product better and on par with an average PC.

Romance prospects for the hetero male PC, seem... less exciting than they were on Mass Effect for example, and while I don't regret not seeing unrealistic overly sexualised female characters that perform EVA in space wearing a catsuit and a breather mask, I think a happy medium could have been reached.

That said, the game still has the benefit of doubt on this front, since we saw very little of these aspects.

And lastly, there is also the possibility of yet another annoying or disappointing ending to DA:I, it's rather trendy these days unfortunately.

Still, even with all that in mind, I don't really regret (yet, hopefully never) preordering the seemingly overpriced digital deluxe edition of DA:I on origin, because what I saw on those gameplay videos and on the Keep, seems to me like a genuine attempt to make the ultimate dragon age game yet, and for that alone I think that bioware deserves the extra money and the trust of that are included in pre-ordering the DDE.

What do you think?

I preordered DA:I through PS Store for my PS3 and haven't looked back.

Also, tbf, both ME3 and DA2 were rushed out in a year and a half as opposed to the 3 years DA:O, ME1, and ME2 all got.  If ME3 and DA2 got the development time they needed, they'd have been a lot better than what they were.  EA's learning from its mistakes and letting BW take their time with their games.  RPGs can't be rushed out like FPS and sports games, something EA didn't realize until after it was too late.

I pre-ordered it after the ESRB rating information. I will explain later.

Later:

Before I continue I will say that I belittle no-one, everyone is unique and I love and non-hate everyone for it.

I'm Dutch, and for those that don't have much understanding of the dutch culture, I will tell a small part of it.

In our country we have pretty much in every city a brothel and red light districts, we have beaches were you are allowed to be nude, we get commercials that show skin during daylight (including condoms and w/e), and our news programs don't censor images and words.

In short, we are a pretty open sort of people. A culture where we've been exposed to these sorts of things ages past, something that makes us look at it with a far milder understanding and be far less disturbed (if at all) by it.

Well, I hope I don't ruffle some feathers to roughly, but in Bioware's latest games they have been treating the sexual aspects from a joke to a childish narrative. Brothels were done in a joking manner "look we are a brothel, arn't we cute?", and intimate love scenes were done with either underwear rubbing to taking a shower with it.

Is this bad? To me it is, because if the game has so many aspects in it that the ratings give it in the USA a "M for mature" and in the EU a "PEGI 18" (which is the equivalent of an "A for Adult" rating). It would come across to me, that Bioware doesn't trust my ability to digest sexual aspects in a mature manner.

Now, if their games were created with the focus on tongue in cheek or dumb humor, I would just laugh at it and forget it in the next 5 mins. But Bioware games are typical games that try to pull you into their story, they try to let you live in their worlds. And no one likes to get punched if you are sucked into a story, which happens to me when I come across these things. So I decided that I'm not the type of gamer that Bioware creates games for, which I was fine with.

What does this have to do with the ESRB rating information?

When I saw the description, I was pleasantly surprised. Bioware is actually trying to change their approach on these matters.

It said it had topless nudity and buttocks, it had cursing we hear in our daily lives, it had both naughty and odd sex talk.

And while it didn't said that coitus is shown, like in an other game. An RPG lover like me was still happy to get to know this was being included in their latest Dragon Age game.

So in short, I'm happy that Bioware is trying to be more open. And in respect I did pre-order their game.

Lucky for me I only have to wait a month, while most of you probably waited more then 2 years :P.

Bioware is still a developer I trust enough to pre-order their games.   Just manage your expectations on your end.   Even DA2 wasn't a bad game in the grand scheme of the entire gaming industry, it just was a mediocre offering that left its flaws glaring in the shining brilliance that was DA:O.    Its major failing for me was my own expectations were far too high.    I don't ever put those kinds of expectations on a game anymore.

DA:I was never going to be a game that I would consider not buying or even waiting for 'reviews' first.

There are design decisions in DA:I that I don't think I will like, but they never discouraged me from buying the game.

Sometimes you just have to be excited about something.  i rarely preorder games, but somehow it's fun to know you have a "special" one ordered.  it's the anticipation.

I pre-ordered a very long time ago, and the more I see of the game, the happier I am that I did.

Some things have made my loyalty to the pre-order waver, but it's still up.

This will be the last game I ever pre-order, likely. That'll help me quit pre-orders, having a set last.

Probably another reason why it's still pre-ordered, to be honest, haha.

I always pre order Bioware games. Did this one a long time back in the deluxe version (2 copies so my older son could have a copy as well.) - though I recently cancelled one of the preorders to preorder the Xbox One version instead of the 360 version due to a console change this month.

I don't think there's anything Bioware could do that would make me question my decision to preorder any of their games. They'd have to literally change their entire way of doing business and development for that to happen I think.

I cancelled my preorder over no auto attack and have a friend evaluating how much trouble I'm likely to have.

I would have gotten it either way, good or bad. But people shouldn't follow my example, I'm dumb. I pre order even if I don't plan to play it first day because I want to support the devs.

I am still not pre-ordering it. I will buy it soon after it is out, though.

I almost did. The keep beta taking forever gave me bad vibes, the lack of healing spells, no attribute points on leveling, some of the LI decisions (Blackwall, Cullen AND Solas being off the table for my Inqui T_T), and the combat videos showing even 'easy' encounters taking forever as you chip away at health....all of that has greatly affected by excitement for the game. I came very close to canceling the pre-order and just waiting to pick up a pre-owned, but I chose not to.

Not on principle or anything. Was just too lazy.

I've some concerns but refuse to cancel my pre-order of CE version for PC  .

It's only money so end of the day  would only spend it on something else  :) .

After last stream with gorgeous PS4 graphic and wonderful camera in tactic view I'm even more convinced that pre-ordering DA:I for PS4 in June was the right decision :D

I cancelled my preorder over no auto attack.

Do you still plan on buying the game?

Is auto attack in itself that important a feature for you, that solely because of it you will not buy an RPG?

I pre-ordered a standard copy of the game a couple of months back now but after checking out all of the trailers and all the info etcetera, I quickly upgraded to a deluxe edition. I think the game alone is worth the additional £10 let alone the extra stuff such as the soundtrack, exclusive mounts and whatever else it comes with. I would have gone for the Inquisitor Edition however, I haven't the money for it. I can only hope I win that DA:I Poster Contest to claim my Supreme Mega Ultra Death Mode Edition (Inquisitor Edition).

This would be the first bioware game that I pre-ordered since before I would borrow my friends copy or play on their account so there was no need for me to buy the game right away.

I also had the unique opportunity to pre-order the deluxe 360 version for the same price as the standard version due to a pricing error a few months ago on Target's website, which amazon reflected (got it off amazon). I wasn't going to pass up the chance to get the deluxe goodies for 'free'

Oh hell yes. But it had a lot less to do with the game and a lot more to do with the fact that the pre-orders over here have literally no downside. And you get a discount! And it's some-or-other special edition!

Been on the forum for months (BSN pre-game dlc)

DA Deluxe preorder in for months.

Easy decision.
