Anyone remember long ago, when this game was human-only...

I was about to say that no, I remember there being 4 races, but the it became human only, but...
I DO REMEMBER I think I read about it very early on in a gaming magazine (Possibly the last one I ever bought). For some reason a 2 handed Human Warrior sticks out in my mind.

Frankly I think it's a trade up. Whilst it would be nice to see different origins like Avvar, I will take other races over different human tribes and societies any day. I can't see the difference between being an Avvar or a city born human being as great as that as being either human or elf etc.

I think personally that if I have to lose the differents origins for playing only has a human then I am ready to if I can play as a qunari.

I personnally think the backgrounds they had in mind would be your specializations, that you could pick at the beginning,
When they said we'd be human only, i thought each class would have three back grounds according to specializations, an evil, good and neutral one, but since its only background you can be an evil person forced into a good role or a do-gooder put in a bad situation.
Warriors:
Good - Templar
Neutral - Champion
Evil - Reaver (i thought they'd make you a cultist).
Rogues:
Good - Duelist (Rivaini noble of some kind)
Neutral - Bard
Evil - Assassin
Mages:
Good - Spirit healer (in service of the chantry)
Neutral - Elemantalist (Circle mage)
Evil - Blood mage
My first thought was actually that the origin story would be about an assassination attempt on the Divine haha, so i wasnt far off on that. I thought the Good backgrounds could've been tasked with protecting her, the neutral backgrounds were spying there and somehow became involved and the evil backgrounds were actually sent there to kill her. I managed to keep myself excited by entertaining those ideas instead of accepting we would all be playing a boring human noble.

That just means we are chosen ones if playing as magi lolAh yes. I remember in the days of old when only humans were playable in Dragon Age games. I miss those days. Ah well. At least we're nobility in all of them, unless we're a mage unfortunately.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dwarf and Qunari backstories were adapted human ones.

I would like to have had the multiple options for each race like how DAO had two different backstories for each race. Well and the mage backround for the elf and human. Still I am happy we got multiple races so I am not gonna complain

UH yeah you are nobility if your a human mage. The human rouge and warrior have the same last name as the human mage. So technically you would still be nobillity

Like a smuggler/mercenary thing, Kallen? I could see that for sure.
Yeah.
The smuggler story they use for the Dwarf could be used for a human if you just switch the Carta to for example the Coterie.
The mercenary story they use for the Qunari could be used for a human, just for a different band of mercenaries.

I would have been fine either way. I mostly play humans anyway ![]()
A lot of people wouldn't have though so I'm glad they took this route.

Frankly would have far preferred Human only + Multiple Background cause considering I will most likely play human only anyway (I might just run a Pro Chantry Dalish mage just so I can burn Dalish culture to the ground with a sense of irony) and I have always, always wanted to play the Avaar. Oh maybe a Nevaraan Necromancer, or something else genuinely interesting.
But oh well, people wanna play "elves" and "dwarves".
*shrugs*

Now that I think about it, I would probably be nowhere near as hyped for the game as I am now if we were still human-only. The race announcement was pretty much the turning point for me on this game.
...I'd also have probably been playing it months ago...
