I searched for this thread and was shocked I didnt find it (or maybe I just didnt look hard enough) but I am curious as to what companion combinations people plan to use. And why. For instance.

I have many party combos in mind for different scenarios. Like when im in a giggly mood I plan to use Dorian, Iron Bull, and Varric. Or not in the mood for silly banter I will use Solas, Viv, and Cole. Quests that are. Mage centric I will use Dorian, Viv and Solas. I also plan to use Cassandra, Viv and Sera when Im feeling like a pimp. Or Cassandra, Varric, and Solas when my Qunari quizzy wants to look racially accepting lol. If there are any quests involving Grey Wardens and specifically Anders, I plan to use Blackwall, Varric, and Cassandra. Mainly cuz B is a warden, Varric knew Anders, and Cass has a working knowledge of him through her interrogation of Varric. These are the ones ive come up with where I didnt take classes into account that much.
The team I plan to use more often than others consists of Blackwall, Dorian, and Sera as these are my fav chars (with what info we have atm) in each class. My preferred team that I will also use more often than not is Cass, Blackwall, and IB because these are my 3 fav followers. But with me playing a warrior, it might be hard to play this. Missing out on chests via lack of a rogue, and lacking a mages firepower and protective abilities and whatnot.

So lets share, or direct me to the original topic if it already exists. Which if thats the case then My bad.

I'll probably end up with "favourites" but I've always tried to use different companions for different missions, especially on consecutive playthroughs where I think "That guy/girl will probably have something interesting to say at this location".

 

I'll probably take a liking to Blackwall, simply because I like the Wardens, and I'd like to know every single scrap of information about them.

All of them, rotating in and out. I never have a set party formation, I like to give everyone a shot and see all the characters' dynamics with each other.

Eventually I'll get a favourite party member who I take everywhere. Usually my current character's love interest.

I will pick my favourites for my first play through, and mix it up the odd time when it seems like another party member would better fit the quest I'm doing.

Right now I like Varric and Cassandra, but that could change. All of the mages seem great too, so I'm stuck on who to choose, although Dorian does stand out.

(Not trying to spark a war but...) Right now Sera and Iron Bull are on my 'avoid' list, but again, that could change.

Mostly Dorian, Solas, Cole, Cass and Iron Bull though Just cause I find the most intresting and funny.

Definitely Iron Bull....and anyone. I was watching the PAX AU panel the other day and the entire group said Iron Bull when they were asked about favorite party companions. I'm thinking he'll be hilarious.

Depends on the playthrough. For my first one it'll be Blackwall (who I'll romance), Varric (because Varric), and either Dorian or one of the other mages.

Right now, Varric is leading in the contest for party rogue. Dorian and Solas are tied for party mage. And I have no idea who I'm going to prefer for party muscle.

 

Obviously, there are a lot of things I could discover that might make me change my mind between now and when I really find out which ones I prefer to use. Usually, it boils down to the ones I like verses the ones I get the most use out of and need in my party the most.

Well, not sure about that one. I will recruit Dorian as soon as possible and grant him a place in my Inquistor's team, but haven't thought any further than that.

 

I would love to beat the game on hard the first time playing through it, so I assume I'll have to build a well combined group, rather than just pick 3 guys I would want to travel with. Would do double mage/double warrior, if there weren't all these shiny little -and unfortuneatly locked- tresurechests, yeah and traps... sad, course this appears solid to me, lots of taunts, armour-abilities, shields and cc.

and a rogue, don't know when to get him, but Cole would be my frist pick.

 

Another thing is the approval-system. I don't know much how that'll be handled, though I got the impression, that it's kind of a necessity to drag people along, in order to befriend them. So yeah, seems like I will do happy swapping once I feel comfortable with the difficulty level.

I'll probably end up using Solas, Iron Bull, and Cole the most because with what info we have these 3 interest me the most, and they're my favorites as of right now. My back up team will most likely be Cass, Dorian, and Sera for the same reasons above these 3 also really interest me just not as much as the other 3. I really like all the companions so far, and I plan on trying all of them out, but as of right now it's Solas, IB, and Cole.

Cassandra: The Beloved.

Varric: I need my trusty Dwarf rogue!

Dorian: Tevinter Mage that is all the reason I need to bring him.

 

2nd P. Qunari Warrior:

Blackwall: Badass Grey Warden.

Sera: Crazy ass Elf!

Solas: Bawld and Fewlish Lizard Wizard.

 

3rd P. Dwarf Rogue:

Iron Bull: He is big and my Dwarf is small!

Cole: Umm what was I talking about?

Vivienne: I need enemies destroyed in grand fashion!

Probably Cass, Dorian, and Cole the most (just guessing since I don't really know them yet) but I'll use all of them throughout the game because I like to get as much dialogue as I can. I'm least interested in Sera, Iron Bull, and Varric.

I plan to take Iron Bull, Vivienne and Dorian on my initial run. I'm anxious to see how well they work together. Also, dialogue.

 

Eventually, I will use them all.

I tend to bring the people who fit the mission best. That said, if I had to choose three it would be Cassandra, Cole, and Solas.
