I've already explained why.

What purpose does any optional content serve in the game?

Character relationships add to character development, and also help make the characters in the story seem like real people. If you're following these characters over the course of a year or two, or whatever the case, you might expect at least some of them to enter into relationships with other characters.

I'd say that is the purpose that the optional relationships serve.

But what purpose would marriage serve? I could see it perhaps as a single scene at or near the end of a relationship arc. But some players seem to want to a dating sim-like exploration of married life, and I just can't see how that would fit into DA:I. Also what purpose would that serve? DA:I isn't a dating sim, and you're not going to get any additional character development out of it that you don't already get in the pre-marriage relationship arc. Unless it is an arranged marriage, the two characters should know each other before getting married.

Not really. It happens in the epilogue. Wouldn't be surprised if they retcon it anyway to they were lovers before marrying.

Yeah, the Liara ninjamance.

I was going to say, what version of ME1 did you get? :P

I'm still allowed to ask. And since it likely won't happen, why do you or anyone else who is against the idea even care?

No, my question was "What purpose does any optional content serve in the game?". You response did not answer that.

That would be a crappy thing to do. They could've been in a relationship and the sex didn't start til after the wedding. I fail to see why the game would even mention when they started sleeping together anyway.

XD yeah glad I caught that quick.

Well, can't speak for anyone but myself, but I want it more as just another part of the romance subplot. Just like the the relationships in general, have it as something that creates character development, which would be very easy to do without involving things like arranged marriage like you suggested. So just like one maybe two dialogues leading up to it,  a small ceremony cutscene that takes ten seconds, a dialogue after it, and some banter from other companions commenting on it like they do when you romance. Things like what The Sims or to a lesser extent Skyrim where you come home to a dinner prepared or whatever I agree wouldn't fit.

Skyrim's marriage isn't very deep. You lightly romance a character and then get married. The dialogue options are small, even when you adopt children. I wouldn't want that in a new game without further development into the main character's life.

Guess what feature would come after the marriage request… having kids. I'm not opposed to kids with npc's, I'm looking at the noble dwarf and Mandy little quest. Marriage should only be done off-screen like Swtor. There is always too much conflicts surrounding the protagonist to even think about marriage, unless it's a political marriage, I don't think it should be that big of a concern.

I would have liked fewer, more well developed marriage choices in Skyrim, if only just a little.

Obviously it's a big world, but I feel like what was in vanilla skyrim was like a "test" to see the consumer reactions to it.

optional Content is a bogus argument for WHY a company should add something.

First it can be said for almost EVERYthing. The arguments for it are all the same it gives choice it [blah blah blah]. It it just NOT relevant. A milltion differnt hair syles gives choice but it doesn't make the game better. Its a bloody waste as all the time and money could have been focused on other aspects of the game. Just because its gives players a choice ISNT a valid reason. Player choice is a mantra but its widely ignored as a reason to do something. Granted adding content has the added effect of increasing choice but choice isn't a valid reason in and of itself.

The actual content itself needs to stand on its own. How does this content further the gaming experience? If it is missing does it negatively impact the gaming experience for this title? Is this content relivent to the gaming enviorment? Does it further the story? Marriage really doesn't stand up to these questions.

Then you have practical questions...

How many man-hours does this take to make? Would we be better to use the budget on different options?  how technically difficult is it to add? How many departments are required to add this option? Will this add to much to an already stretch department? Is it worth adding the option purely from the amount of effort vs the potential gain?

If all you can say of a WANT is It adds choice then it falls into the same level of validy of "I want the story to be about a Jedi that crash lands on Thedas!"

People have tried to claim this want is about being inclusive but that rings hollow given just how forward thinking they are with regards to romances. People have tried to claim its unfair to people who have values that don't sync with premarital sex, thats a weak argument because games can not cater to every person's own morality. And you can CHOOSE not to partake in the content. Bioware wants their games to be inclusive and representative but that doesn't mean the only way they are inclusive or representative is if they include every point of view. BioWare's games are representative of the Valuse of Canadians why is that relevant? Oh I don't know maybe because Bioware Edmonton is where DA:I is made and that is in Canada. So maybe a company should hold the values of the country its in?

Unless you work for Bioware, you shouldn't speak for them about their decisions or intentions.

relationships in the Dragon Age games are a very big part of the games allure. I am happy that same sex relations, or any for that matter ate in the games, period.

Maybe the reason they don't include marriages in the game is because they don't feel they can do it justice? Personally I wouldn't touch that content with a ten-foot pole but I assume the people that want it want something more than the Skyrim version provided?

All they'd need to do is have  one maybe two dialogues leading up to it,  a small ceremony cutscene that takes ten seconds, a dialogue after it, and some banter from other companions commenting on it like they do when you romance.  Most people in the other threads about this were happy with this.

Or they can give us the modding tools... there are some cool wedding mods out there for DAO :-)

They won't, apparently. Damn shame. It's easier to get the gaming experience you want if you're able to pick and choose what content you want in your game from several people or groups.

Two rather large elephants in the room with this.

1) That doesn't help people on the 360, One, PS3, or PS4.

2) DICE is never giving the toolkit to the Frostbite engine to the public.

As I understand this, gays can't marry in Thedas. However, in Thedas, you're free to sleep with whomever you want. As long as it is done discretely. If a man or woman get married in Thedas - or Ferelden - they're allowed to have affairs outside marriage. Wih both men and women. As long as the men and women creates children no one interferes with what they're doing in their one - or in other people's beds.

I would like to know if they are going to cover the mystery of Morrigan , and the Wardens god baby?. I went into the mirror with Morrigan in the dlc, so..... Just curious to see if this will be a huge part of Inquisition. I was disappointed that this subject was not even touched upon in Dragon Age 2.

Sorry that I went off topic in my last post,
