Exporting World States to DA:I

Just watched the latest Twitch broadcast and it was said that, once you have your copy of DA:I, all you need to do is hit the Export button in order to transfer your World State to the game. I  really hope it is that simple, but how does the exporter know where to send the info?

Nowhere in the Keep or anywhere else have I ever been asked to input anything relating to my console (PS4). Will the game itself ask for details of my Keep account?

I know we're still three weeks away from launch but there seems to be a step missing, and - as someone for whom the Keep has never been able to sync any of the DA:O and DA2 info on my XBox 360 - I'd like some reassurance on how it will recognise my PS4.

If anyone from Bioware can provide more info on this, it would be very much appreciated.

When you get your game you will log in through the game with your origin account and it will look into the Keep website to see if you have a Keep worldstate in the same account. Pretty straight forward :).

Fairly certain they said the exported 'file' will be stored in a cloud-like system.  When you load up Inquisition, you will log in to your Origin account, and if it detects that you have something saved in the storage system, it will automatically download it.  No need to designate which console you're using.

Basically once you hit export we store that information in the cloud as Your Thedas

Next when you sign into your origin account the game can connect to Bioware Online Services (BOS, also the acronym for our team) and say hi I'm movieguyabw, DAI needs my Thedas.

Then we build the view (only data DAI cares about) and send it to the game where it digests all the information. All of this is using your Origin account to identify yourself on each platform.

Thank you for this but, unforunately, it doesn't quite answer my original question as explicitly as I'd hoped. I apologise if it sounds as if I'm being difficult (or just plain stupid!) but given the complete and total failure of syncing to work for me, I am merely trying to get a better understanding of exactly what I will be required to do when I finally get to tear the wrapping off my shiny new copy of DA:I on 21st.

I understand that the World States will go to the cloud. I understand that the cloud will "speak" to my Origin account. But, since there is nothing about my PS4 in my Origin account, how is the chain back to my PS4 completed? For example, will the game itself ask me for my Origin user name and Password?

Is the PSN account you intend to play DAI with currently linked to your Origin account?(you can check by looking at the 'about me" section of your Origin account, it'll have the PSN and Xbox Live accounts attached to the Origin account you're using)

If your PSN account is linked to your Origin account, then more than likely you will not be required to reenter your user name and password to log in.  DAI should log you into your Origin account automatically(provided you're connected to the internet when you start the game).

Of course, that's assuming that DAI is like the other Bioware games made in the last 5 years(DAO, DA2, ME2, ME3)

No. This is exactly my point. There is nothing about my PS4 linked to my Origin Account, and no obvious place to input such information (that I've found!). That's why I have been struggling to understand how the one will be able to identify the other.

My Origin account was created specifically to enable me to into the Keep and has never been used for any other purpose. I've always assumed that - if the World States are to be successfully imported into DA:I - there must eventually be a link between Origin and the PS4 but, so far, nobody has addressed how this is to be done. If you could explain how I can link my PSN and Origin accounts, that would be very helpful.

To connect your Origin and PSN account you should open up the Origin Client, then choose 'Add a Friend' in the 'Friends' tab. A new window will open up giving you the option to import your friends from your XBOX/PSN account. Click on 'Connect', sign in to your PSN account and that should do the trick.

From this page.

Then this is what should happen:  You will start the game.  The game should try to connect to Origin immediately.  The game will likely fail to connect to Origin because it doesn't recognize your PSN account as linked to an existing Origin account.  You will then be prompted to create a brand new Origin account, or log in to an existing one.  If you choose to log in to an existing account, you will have to input the username/password of your Origin account into the game.

Note:  Some of the "information" from EA's Origin troubleshooting forums, says that if the email address associated with an unlinked PSN/Xbox Live account is the same as one associated with an existing Origin account, the accounts should link automatically when you start any EA game...  I've never seen this happen, but I've also never created a brand new Origin account and Xbox Live gamertag to find out...

What is the "Origin Client"? Do you mean my Origin home/profile page? That has no "Add a Friend"  tab.

Yeah ... I'd rather not trust that Origin and PSN will find each other automatically. In my experience, technology is pretty unreliable when it comes to that sort of thing!

I'd much rather get the two things linked now, ahead of launch. The last thing I want is to join the thousands of other frustrated people who will have trouble connecting on Day 1!   ;)

The Origin Client is what's installed on your computer (as opposed to the web browser). You can download it on origin.com.

So, opening an Origin account doesn't automatically give you the "Origin Client"?

At the top of my Origin account homepage, there is a "Download Origin" tab. Is that the "client"?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm only double-checking because, when I click on that, it refers only to "Origin for PC" (nothing about consoles) and is, it says, for online community features such as "challenging friends" (I have no interest in MP).

Yes the 'Download Origin' tab is where you download the client, which is only for PC/Mac. You don't really need to do anything after installing it on your computer, but this is the only I've found of directly connecting your PSN Account to your Origin ID.

Thank you. My PSN account is now linked to my Origin account.

This makes much more sense now!

I freely admit that I'm not the most computer-literate gamer but, if BW continues to claim publicly that there's no need to do anything more than click the Export button, I suspect there will be quite a few more requests like mine come 18th/21st!

Thank you again for your help (and patience!)

DAJB do you have a PSN account when you played the other DA games like did you play DA O and DA 2 on ps3 or X360? When you boot up DA:I on ps4 you should get on a sign in screen in origin in the game, you would just use the same account you have your keep info in a it should sync up. Evas method works too

Maybe the option to connect through Origin will pop-up as soon as you start the game ? I feel like that would be the best way to handle it.

For me it's not really an issue because I'll play DAI on PC, but I do have a PS3 and I didn't even realize it was linked to my Origin ID until last week, so it can definitely cause some confusion.

Yeah, my concerns have been largely put to rest now, thanks. It was the fact that there was no obvious way for my Origin account and my PS4 to find/identify/recognise each other that was bugging me. Now that my PSN account and my Origin account are linked, I can see the complete "chain".

Whether it works or not on 21st is another matter, but at least I can now see the logic of how it should;)

Thanks, but I'm happy on this point now.

I played DA:O and DA2 on XBox 360, so I'm going to spend a little time seeing if I can get my XBL account to link to Origin now. Who knows? If I can, maybe syncing will start working for me too!   :D

I'm similarly worried, though for other reasons.  After weeks of trying to sync my newest Origins character on PS3, I finally discovered that PSN is notoriously bad about sharing data with the BSN, and that it often takes a month or two for for characters to upload.  That's always been the case, apparently, and the fault is on Sony's end and not Origin/EA/BioWare's.

I have it pre-ordered on PS4, so I have horrible visions of tearing off the wrapper, putting in the disk, and finding out I have to wait months to download my worldstate :(

Eeep!  I am going to pretend you didn't just say that.

Not listening; la la la la!    ;)
