As the title suggests, I'm simply curious as to how much planning everyone has done; ie. race, sex, class, romantic interest, Inquisitor voice, etc..

As for me, my first playthrough will most likely be (see! I'm leaving room for change!) as a female elf ('cause I want to romance Sera, though Josephine may interfere with that  ) named Seyba (...ok, I haven't got a name planned yet, I just but some constanants and vowels together to get that).  As usual I'll either be a warrior or a rogue.  And that's it.  I don't know how my character will look yet or anything else.

I'm so ready for this game.  My friends are going to miss me!

I'm waiting till I play using each of the voice over actors once for at least a half an hour. This will let me know which actor I think does the best performance this will determine my sex, which will determine my love intrest. male = cassandra, Female = Josephine. I will have played each of the classes at least once so that will provide me with an idea which class I enjoy the mechanics of first.

So I have zero worked out ahead of time.

[Edit] the last statement isn't entirely true I plan on using Varric and Dorian most of the time.

Have basically everything planned. I'll be playing a male dalish elf archer assassin. As for name, I always name every charcter after myself be they male or female. So every one of my characters running around will be called Moses :)

About as much as I can feasibly do before release. Female Qunari, warrior, American Female voice, kind of smart mouthed and cynical, and with the Reaver specialization. No idea on who she'll romance though, I'll figure that out in-game. Blackwall is the most likely candidate for now.

I'm also still completely lost on what I'll name her.

I...actually have mine way more planned than I expected? The tl:dr version is basically: lady dwarven rogue assassin who is an insufferable, but so so pretty hipster and will be romancing Sera, supporting elves/mages (but maybe not always the best ally for them, poor dear is a disaster and undoubtedly will be making terrible choices) and judging everyone in Thedas with her snark and self-serving self-righteousness.

Not a whole lot. I wanna do a female run non-mage run first but I haven't decided on the race. The second will be a Dorian-mance and I can't decide whether I want to do that with an elf or a qunari but I have decided on a mage for that run. I'm also TERRIBLE at naming things so I usually leave that till last or just never do it if they have default ones.

I think its great that people have planned out in advance. I will probably play round with the beginnings and character creation before most likely choosing a male rogue with a vaguely silver age Roman name.

Basically a human male ranger who distrusts magic, every damn time..

Im the type of person that when my favourite game series has another game coming out in under a month, I tend to do some mad planning. Now with Dragon Age being said game series, I have done a decent amount of planning. Playing a male Qunari Two Handed Warrior of the Champion class named Talbot Adaar. I will craft for him a greatsword names Thanatos that will cleave fleah from bone left right and centre. He will have jet black skin, equally black hair with the biggest ol studded horns. The largest, fullest beard, either purple or grey eyes, an angry expression, American Voice, who is mostly aggressive in his responses but also throws in some sarcasm on the side. Diplomacy rarely used. Unless on Josephine ;). Who will be my LI btw. I will juggle the party around but can forsee myself aticking with Cass, Blackwall, and IB. (I know, all warriors including myself, but idc rather have my preferred followers than have to have a weiner follow me just to open chests or AoE a chokepoint)
Thats all I got so far. I think.

i don't usually plan out characters to much before games come out but i'v found myself planing almost every gender/race combo for DA:I,

my first will be a male elf rift mage named Saskia who'll romance Bull, he's soft spoken and kind but pretty ignorant about things outside of

dalish culture so sometimes he comes off as pretty rude.

Personally I don't want any of my advisors tortured in Redcliffe...imagining Josephine hanging in chains is horrible....and there is no way Cullen is getting near the red lyrium there. I'll opt for the other plotline the devs talked about.

Eleanor Trevelyan, two handed warrior.

Romance: Cullen.

Lawful good generally.

Then

Brid Cadash, dual wielding rogue, Tempest. (Will use hand axes as Milke said they would be available)

Romance: Blackwall

Chaotic good.

I've actually thought about this quite a bit, my first playthrough will be human mage with red hair and green/amber eyes depending. I have a theme going from my DA:O and DA2 playthroughs with both being female (human) mages (with red hair and yellow eyes) which obviously makes them related. I am just head canoning that Trevaylen is related as well. Also, I'll be romancing Cullen and her name will be Evangeline or Eve for short.

Can't not be a mage and romance Cullen lol.

I planned a fair bit. Human male archer with the British voice, will probably romance Josephine, and like most of my characters will be a pro-mage atheist.

A ton.  I have brief bios prepared for each of my race-class combos...and have been obsessively following the gameplay streams for insight on strategies.  All of which is rare for me.  Traditionally I just jump into games and figure it out as I go.  I simply cannot wait to start playing this game.

I haven't decided on voices yet since I don't think I have heard good samples yet..

A Question: Not mocking but...

Why do people invent like really big backstorys for characters, it isnt like your platform delves into your head to pick it out and make it count in the story , so why do you do it?

Also whats all this 'Chaotic good stuff' are they archtypes?

Some people get really elaborate with their backstories.  I take a more minimalist approach simply to gleen a better understanding of my character's motivations to enhance my role-playing experience.

Drusa of the Levellan Dalish, female mage, First of her clan.  Drusa is angry.  She is angry about the plight of her people; angry at her people for their acceptance of the situation, but most of all angry with the Keeper for her complacency.  Drusa dreams of uniting the Dalish clans with those of the city Elves to rise against the oppression they are forced to endure.  The Keeper admonishes such thoughts saying it would lead to Elven extinction, but Drusa recognizes that her brethren stumble like shambling undead corpses toward such a future.  Better to die quickly than be killed by a slow disease.  Drusa will do anything in her power to keep either such fates from occurring but refuses to accept the status quo.

If it's too much of a pain then just "roleplay" yourself.  I think most people just do that.  It's your game so just do whatever is most fun for yourself.

Oh, yeah.  Good, neutral, evil...chaotic, lawful speak to a character's moral code and behavioral tendencies.  Just substitute whatever adjectives best apply for yourself/character.

All I've planned so far, is to play a male Qunari Warrior. Don't know which weapon type, or specialization I am gonna go with yet. I usually prefer to let such developments happen "organically" in the game.

Emperor:  I hear ya.  It's partly why I keep myself from going overboard with my "origin" background.  I am often surprised as I go in expecting to interact in a certain fashion with respect to the story but end up having the story shape and/or alter my preconceptions and "beliefs."  That's why I prefer "role-playing" vs. just "being myself" (although I do those types of play-throughs as well.)  You don't really anticipate having a game broaden your perspective...or at least I don't.

I planned a little for my first character.

-Name: Gwendoline, maybe?  I'm undecided.  I hope the CC comes with a name generator (or I'll look through some online).

-Female Dalish mage

-Necromancer or Rift Mage?

-British voice

-Chaotic good

-Anti-Chantry, anti-Circle

-Pro-elves, pro-mage freedom

-Romance: Sera or Solas

-Appearance (or this)

-Theme song (I just really love that song :P)

She begrudgingly follows Cassandra after the tear.  I plan to have a rivalry-like relationship with Cassandra, Cullen, Vivienne, and possibly Leliana.  She'll warm up to and eventually befriend Sera, Solas, and Varric (they can dish on Cass together :P).  I'm unsure how she'll react (most likely, she'll be neutral) to the Iron Bull, Cole, Josephine, Dorrian, and Blackwall.

Very little planning. I know I'm going to play either a male warrior / rogue. I know I'm going to pick mostly British voices because the American sound a little off for me. I know I'm going to play it good so no heartless killing or slapping up fools in my company. Apart from that, no. I'm just going to wing it and see where the game takes me.
