Well here goes......I've come to the conclusion that I want to start off my first play-through as a Warrior-Male(American Accented)-Qunari who romances Cassandra teamed with Varric and Solas as my party. BUT here's my dilemma, as stated in the title I cannot decide whether to use sword and board or 2handed,

It seems like the best bet would be 2-hander because Cassandra is already sword and board but I've never really liked 2-handed but to have a rounded party that would be the smart choice I just can't seem to commit and it's absorbing every waking minute of me thoughts.

Please help me....I only have 18 days decide.

If it helps any: Cassandra can be completely re-speced.

Yep, you can spec your companions to fill either role.  It really comes down to whether you prefer to be a tank or high-risk, high-reward damager.  I personally prefer the latter since I subscribe to the theory of the best defense is a good offense...gaming-wise anyways.

So your suggestion is to go with 2-handed because it has more damage? That is a good point.

From what I understand you'll definitely want someone to tank, especially on higher difficulties. That being said, as has been mentioned, everyone can be respecced (Yourself included, I assume) so you could just have a crack at both, see what you enjoy more.

Shawn...Yeah, two-handers are offensive in nature.  I absolutely hated DA2 sword and shield warriors because it would take forever to kill tougher enemies at higher difficulties.  Of course for me it's not outside the realm of possibility that I go two-handed and spec Cass two-handed, as well.  I might even do some sections with four warriors all spec'd two-handed.  Think of the mayhem!

I'd go with 2-hander if I were you, OP.  I already have a m!Qunari warrior planned for my second playthrough and he's going to be a 2-hander warrior.  As in both DA:O and DA2, 2-hander warriors can be pretty damn good DPS tanks and I haven't seen anything saying that it won't be the same in DA:I.  You could match up their fighting styles and headcanon that they regularly spar against each other.

But then, I prefer 2-hander warriors over S&S, so I might be a bit biased.

A Qunari with a sheild just feels wrong. He needs to have a bloody huge two handed axe.

I am also going warrior for my first playthrough and I will go two handed.

A party without a mage... blasphemy blasphemy I say... pray reconsider good sir/madam!!!!  :o

On a serious note It will be quite interesting to see how an all Warrior party pans out with boss fights on Nightmare difficulties...never tried it out myself and dont think I will..but, do lets us know how it plays out would love to hear it  :D

I recall Mike saying during a stream that 2h warriors are capable of building guard just like the sword and board warriors are. So I'd assume it's perfectly viable to be a 2h tank.

Tytelr: I do recall that now that you mention it.  I'm excited about all the possible builds.

Silentspec111: Oh, don't you worry now.  I'll be doing all-mage and all-rogue parties;)  Just think about 4 mages with walking bomb spells...Ima gettin' giddy tinkin' 'bout tat!

2handed. Sword and shield is boring, has no damage and works only in tanking.. meaning being punching bag. I'm assuming it will be same in DAI like it was in DAO and DA2.

I think a 4-mage party will work well...if you don't mind leaving locks unpicked, (still annoys me we don't have a knock spell.)

You can respect Cassandra if you want to play sword and board. Also, if you get part way through the game and hate your spec there is a respect potion. You just won't be able to change your specialization though you will get the points spent in the specialization tree back to respend.

in most games where you choose between sword/board and 2handed warriors (including origins) I always preferred to go with the sword/board.  main reason is because in a lot of those games they have a good BALANCE (keyword there) of offense, defense, and speed.  while 2handers were typically very offensive, but had low defense and speed.

in the dragon age series (2 and inquisition) it seems like both classes are more balanced in speed, but it's more like sword/board has a focus on DEFENSE (as opposed to balance) while 2h has a focus on OFFENSE.  but they both are still at similar speeds.

Being a punching bag is so sexy......I mean rewarding! Try both out and see what you like. Cassie & myself (qunari) are going sword & board while the big guy & Blackwall will be 2handed.

so far in the dragonage series you can tank as a twohanded warrior, i'm not sure if you still can in inquisition, but if that helps, there you go. it really depends on how you want to play. with how dragonage's combat is going to be, i suggest your inquisitior and cassandra be a sword and shield warrior, its easier if you have two tanks because of the lack of healing.

So many peopel are saying go 2handed because of the damage and they like playing damage based characters. Well i say DON'T!!!!!

Based on what YOU have said, "I've never really liked 2-handed," don't play it because YOU wont like it.

Instead play your Warrior as sword and shield and respec Cassandra to be 2 handed. This way you get the balanced party you want and you are not forced to play a role you yourself said you never really liked.

Problem solved.

Do you guys think Iron Bull would be a suitable tank? I could respec him as a sword and shield warrior while I play as 2handed reaver dwarf with, varric, bull, and dorion/solas? The humor is going to be awesome lol

Sure, why wouldn't he be? You can respec him however you want after all, and he has got access to all the warrior trees.

awesome, thank you! I;m going a comic relief type of party. just trying to decide which mage would fit that better. Dorian seems like the sure pick, but something about solas I also think he'd be the sten of the group when it comes to comedy

I always prefer to play as a 2H Warrior. The player was the Hero of Ferelden and Hawke and now is the "Inquisitor" (read: badass). So I roleplay as offense and "bringing the pain." Cassandra will be the party protector. I can't see the mighty Inquisitor as a sword and board type warrior. But, that's my humble preference.

As someone else mentioned above, play with what you like/prefer. Nothing worse than grinding through the game, playing with a choice you dislike (of course you can respec). I think it's cool that we can change the other warrior party members from sword/shield to 2H and vice versa. You couldn't do that in previous DA games (not without mods?).

Simply put: If you'd rather soak up damage and be harder to kill then go weapon and shield. If you'd rather dish out more damage and killing power go two handed.
