I'm considering to do just that.
How often do you start over?

Life ... marriage ... OC?
What are we talking here?
I started the OC so many times I got bored with doing the first third and so didn't finish it for a long time. I do that with custom modules too when I find a cool item half way though that is class specific.
I have also considered becoming a small holder and keeping chickens. That is less likely I think

Now if you are starting over only because you think you made bad choices with your party, then I'm not sure that makes much sense. No party is perfect and to some degree what makes a party unique is their choices.
If real life, that is a different matter entirely. Although the statement about choices is still valid.

In life, whenever necessary which is much the same really.
Mr 156.. Chickens ! Don't do it ! They wake up really early just to annoy people and they're extremely destructive. I've lived with those little b******s running all over my house and trashing it and they're one of the only creatures I have no compassion for whatsoever. Although I still think they should be living outside rather than cages... Just not near me !

If you mean abandoning a game I've recently started and starting over to make better choices, I rarely do that. I don't think I did it in NWN2 at all, though I did it in Baldur's Gate. I didn't even start over in the Witcher when I accidentally, through a slip of the mouse, chose to support the wrong side.
I did begin a new game of the OC a little while ago, but it was long after I completed the game. This time, I want to see what it's like with the thugs and hooligans in Neverwinter and try out a romance I didn't experience.

I've played the OC/MotB three times, with three quite different characters, but I suspect the OP may be asking, if you re-started it. I've not done that. I have gone back to an earlier save though, the first time I did it.

I mean any game, but mostly OC and SOZ. I started OC so many times. Same applies to SOZ, but quite recently. I'm considering restarting both OC and SOZ, but I though this is better spot, for this is "General" forum and this is general question.

So they're like children then ... already have four of those so I'm going to skip the chickens

I find both hard to restart but have been okay once I got into them. have never managed to finish either from a restart though. What about a custom module instead of the OC again. Or have you played all the major community titles?

I saw an ex-roommate of mine restart the NWN2 OC at least twice (for a total of three characters). I'm not sure if he even got as far as Highcliff. And he loves the game!

Restarting? never.
and i reload only for debugging
reloading/ restarting means there's a glitch in the Matrix ....

Great, I'm not the only one! But for sure I'd prefer to have a chicken than a fifth one ![]()

One's enough for me, but you're right about price it's certainly value for money £20 / 1000 hours ( conservative estimate ) = 2p an hour !
You probably have to factor in computers and alcohol but they were bound to happen anyway.

I don't know if "base character counts" but I restarted i.e. played the tutorial probably a dozen times and then exported by Character at level 3 (ish).
The tutorial gets you a +1 weapon, harvest cloak, say a +1 shield, a few healing supplies and say a few hundred coin.
I build all my base line pcs...ones that I will play in other mods or eventually finish playing through the oc.
i.e.
Base line Aasimir Paladin
Wizard / Eldritch Knight / ASoC
Wood Elf Ranger
Cleric of Tyr
Favored Soul (cause I had to try)
Evil Bard / Fighter / RDD
Evil Monk Assassin
Evil Wiz / Rogue / AT
Just the classes / class combos I enjoy really
Nice base line PCs for community mods in the 3 range which in may experience is a lot of them. Further many mods with start levels i.e. 7 have an auto level up feature ; so given the above equipment you are up for the challenge.

I don't think tutorial gives you +1 equipment. I need to check this myself.

Usually only once, but I had to restart Skyrim four times before I got on the right track for the character type I wanted.
The OC I've only played three times, and not all the way through. Usually I get bored with it by the trial prelude... zzzz...

The only time I would restart a game is if I've encountered a game-breaking bug that I can't get past. Otherwise I tend to persevere.
When I first played the original Baldur's Gate I didn't know you could reroll your statistics during character creation until you were satisfied. I only rolled once, and played the entire game as a fighter with a strength of 13. That fighter eventually became a fighter/thief who went all the way through to the end of Throne of Bhaal.
Then again, I like to play flawed characters. They force you to find creative ways around their weaknesses.

My first play of a new game is often abandoned, once I get a feel for it, I see what I could do better.
I just started playing SoZ recently. After playing for a bit I realized a couple of things.
I wanted/needed more skill points, and rest limitations were annoying me so I restarted with new characters.
My main went from a Wood-elf Ranger/Rogue dip, to human (2 more skill/level), and I replaced my wizard with a Warlock (probably the only time I would every use this class).
I am most happy with the change to the Warlock that you don't have to conserve spells on. Unlimited group haste is pretty handy and the chain blast is pretty good after a while.
But it can be pretty tedious replaying the same section of the game over again to get back to where you were before the restart.
