I posted this on the main DA forum but I thought people interested in the Keep may go here:

I am having an incredible time at Pax Australia. I got a signed Iron Bull poster and have seen some more demo footage etc. 

 

Mike Laidlaw answered my question in the Q&A about the "Cullen Friendship" option in the Keep. He said that it should have been taken out already, that it didn't make sense and wasn't tracked in DA:I. 

 

Aidan Scanlan also confirmed to me in a private conversation that you should indeed be able to have Morrigan's human baby even if you went on to romance another character. He expected this to be fixed by the time open beta ended.

That's actually pretty cool to hear. 

 

Though, admittedly, I was kind of growing fond of the whole Cullen tile.  The idea of my bloodmage Viscount Hawke being friends with Cullen amused me more than it probably should have.  XD

I'd like to point out that just because it isn't tracked in DAI, doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the Keep at all.  After all, I doubt what we did with the prisoner at Ostagar is going to be tracked in DAI....

 

Cullen's Friendship should be removed because the tile/question itself is confusing...

I think that never be tracked in any DA DLC or new Game.

The Ostagar Prisoner like his guard are dead. So why should this choice stay in the Keep any longer?

In my opinion the Keep should only features decisions that matters in DAI or later DLC/Games.

The reason the Keep Team has given for adding superfluous choices that have no bearing on DAI is because the majority of beta testers have wanted to have the World State feel like their own(which would require more choices based on all the minor sidequests that are highly unlikely of being used in a future DA game).

 

I understand the idea of only including choices in the Keep that are reflected in DAI.  That's perfectly fine.  But DAI is said to only use 200 of the currently 300 choices within the Keep.  So would you prefer never to see those extra 100 choices unless they become important in DA4?  I wouldn't...  But that's a personal preference.

In my opinion the Keep should only features decisions that matters in DAI or later DLC/Games.

I think having extra decisions not pertaining to DAI keeps a little mystery on who appears in the game and how things are affected in your world.

The only example I can think of why the Ostagar deserter could possibly ever matter is if Solas goes to Ostagar and we see some weird memory of the event happening in the fade, or maybe Alistair learned about it and mentions it.

Aw, I liked the Cullen tile. Gave your DA2 playthrough more character.

 

Also cool about the Morrigan baby thing. I might change a couple of tiles in one of my worldstates once this change takes affect.

Why is that hard to understand?  I don't like the idea of looking at the Keep and thinking "well, that tile means I'm going to meet/see X, because otherwise it wouldn't be here."  I also don't believe that creating a world state in the Keep should spoil the game for people...

I didn't say I thought it was a good idea, I just said it was the only thing I can think of. Alistair could mention it to somebody else if he's reminiscing about the Warden.

I don´t get it why he could mention it but ok.

"Did you know the Warden fed the prisoner in Ostagar" or "The Warden kill him"

Why is this memorable for him after 10 or more years?

 

And last but not least Alistair can die. So he won´t comeback bigger than a cameo as in DA 2.

So why should he still mention it when has only a few lines?

Jeeze, you don't have to convince me that it's not a good idea. I already agree with you.

You could say to him at one point "Just seeing how an old friend is doing during these difficult times" if you wanted. Also you can tell him that Templars provide a necessary service and that surprises Cullen a bit, given how unpopular the Templars have become as well. (His whole speech about "It used to be that the Templars could go anywhere. Nowadays you're as likely to get a door slammed in your face" or something to that effect. I don't see this as a "Cullenite" thing at all really.

 

But the tile actually sort of makes sense to me. Hawke was a big deal in DA2, but the decisions you can make wrt Mage/Templar stuff vary wildly. Do you let Keran stay? Do you send Grace to the Circle? Do you let Samson join the Order again?

 

My main Hawke was the HUGEST Templar appeaser for most of the game (while helping mages on the sly), but he still sided with the mages in the bitter end. How on earth are they going to parse all those decisions to get Cullen's overall impression of Hawke? If Cullen is going to talk about Hawke at all in DA:I, that tile is probably the simplest way for the devs to give Cullen an impression about him/her.

 

I guess we'll see though *shrug* Personally I've been flipping a coin with that tile.

We already know that Zevran or Shale won´t make appearance in the game but they could return in future games.  I am fine with this because it won´t spoiler other players who don´t know it.
 
But the Ostagar Prisoner is different. He and his guard are dead regardless of our choice. Play the Return to Ostagar DLC you will see the corpse of prisoner.
So why should stay in the Keep any longer?

I actually kind of liked the Cullen tile. Oh well. The Keep should include tiles that are simply for flavor. Your worlds should feel distinctive to you since you're the one who created it.

Well that's surprising. Since the Cullen friendship tile was added so late in the beta and wasn't in particularly high demand I expected they added it because it'd be tracked in DAI, but apparently not. I'm not too sad to see it go though, it was rather confusing and, most importantly, I really don't like the giant hole at the end of the tapestry that was created by the Cullen friendship addition.

Isn´t this the purpose of the Keep? A collection of choices that matters in DAI and beyond?

So tell me why should the Ostagar prisoner stay in the Keep?

The Return to Ostagar DLC and the decision of Cailans corpse aren´t in the Keep. So what´s the different between the Ostagar prisoner and Cailans corpse?

Wynne is also special. She ist dead but their fate in Origins is still important.

If you have killed Wynne in Orgins there is no Spirit of Faith to save Evangeline.

I like the Ostagar prisoner tile a lot. Without a lot of the different origin choices (which I hope to see; those are extremely important to my wardens, how they resolved different scenarios), there's not really another tile that really characterizes your warden outside of their issue stances. Why is that important? Because  if we see our wardens again (a strong request from me) or are even really heard from, it helps increase the odds they'll get the characterization right, so that our former characters don't become (or remain) these nebulous, lifeless afterthoughts. They should remain important characters, and you need some details to do that right.

 

I like the Cullen tile for the same reason, to a lesser degree. Sad to hear it's going, just a little bit.

I agree the Keep's a little cluttered right now, but that's really because a number of current tiles should be combined. Either/ors and minor variations don't need their own seperate space on the tapestry. We don't need less choices though. There's still a good number that need an add.
