Anyone else think that maybe including synching was a mistake?

Not a mistake exactly, but it probably would have been simpler to just let us edit the first names of the default Wardens/Hawkes instead.

I think the complainers are at fault, personally. There is a FAQ right on the homepage of the Dragon Age Keep website that answers all the questions. It's only the few players that don't stop to read and who can't be arsed to spend 10 minutes selecting a few choices that are complaining. The majority of players seem to be happy with it. I know I am. The Keep is one of the best ideas they ever had.

Honestly. I've yet to see one post about syncing not doing the choices for you in this thread, as a complaint.

Those of us who have played with console commands enabled have nothing to sync.

Then turn off the console, load the save and swap a few items. It will then upload.

You would think so, but they dont have anything to store the names in the keep or for the game to see it

The Keep is one of the best ideas the devs ever had?  Wow you're saying a lot about the games.

Already did that.  Didn't work.  Has new code been added recently?

Give it time, and sit on the save for awhile. Back before they disabled BSN it worked for me but took awhile (I sat in-game for an hour) then they appeared a few hours later

That would do but only if they got rid off those awful default portraits along the way. I can even deal with the names, it's those ugly preset faces I have problem with.

I find the interface pretty straight forward took me 10 minutes to choose the correct options for my story which imported wrong with the sync.

sync wise it works great as it imported my characters and all of my achievements.

Then how does syncing our Warden's custom name in help?

Heh, I'm the opposite. I can ignore the portraits because I can assume that if the Warden or Hawke shows up we can remake them, but I'll go crazy if I don't get to add my custom names. I probably should have implied that just letting us put in a name instead of syncing meant not including the portrait though.

It didn't imported it wrong, it doesn't import anything from your savegame, because your actual savegame was never uploaded, neither to bsn nor to the keep.

All that has been ever uploaded was the race, class, gender and appearence. It would be the same as if you would create a save with only the character creator and then loading that up.

They havent talked about that, I wonder how it's stored. Or if It's even used.

Syncing automatically the first time you log in, fine.

Syncing every time you log in, annoying as hell.

Especially when the last time you were in you locked the world state to prevent accidental changes. Because then you can't get past the Hero select stage of the syncing... "This World State is Locked". You're stuck until you figure out (IF you figure out) to change the end of the address to "...worldvault/#product/dao".

Also, the voiced summary.. nice.. but it makes no sense to run it before you've even gotten to the tapestry. It's just the default world state, adjusted for your origins.

Remove the auto sync every time you log in, leave the button to sync when you want to.

if you´re auto-synching every time you acces the keep then you have a bug and need to report it through the feedback button (don´t forget to mention the browser you´re using). The ISS (interactive story summary)must be before accessing the tapestry, it´s meant to give a glimpse of what happened in the previous games to people who are new to the franchise and to give a start to those already familiar with it.

Syncing is a damn if you do, damn if you don't.

No sync, People will riot that their Warden and Hawke don't carry over, and will think Bioware doesn't care about their choices

sync, People will say what was the point if the story choices don't carry over.

I'm glad they included syncing because it awesome to see my warden and my Hawke in the keep. :D

Back before they disabled BSN  And it's disabled now, right?

Today I started the game from the normal launcher, in ft drakon, switched things around, fought the arch demon, finished the game.  I'm sure not going to leave my game just sitting there running for an hour when I've already manually completed my DAO/DA2 heros in the Keep.

As I understand it the Keep pulls the info from BSN.  Since that is now read-only, and the Keep doesn't grab info from the saved game on my computer, there shouldn't be any way for me to sync my game.  There should be a checkbox that I can select to disable future syncing so I can just skip this part.

I haven't been keeping up with Dragon Age for years, and I only got interested again a few days ago, so excuse me if the answer to my question is well known. I understand that the Keep doesn't import savegames or any choices made, but I am wondering: why not? I mean, there was an import function in Dragon Age 2, so the technology would exist.

So why didn't Bioware develop a way to upload save games including the choices made and instead went for this way?

*sees post implying that import into DA2 worked and laughs for ten minutes*

Oh man I can only imagine what the posts would be like if people were importing their DA2 files in DAI. "What do mean Nathaniel is dead?" "What do you mean I didn't romance anyone?" "What do you mean *insert new import bug introduced by DA2 save structure being stupid somewhere*?" Oh good times. Also at least 1/3 of the DAO choices in the Keep were not imported into DA2.

Imo, I think they should have said syncing only brings in achievements and DLC and not character names/appearances due to the confusion surrounding it and in relation to character it's impact seem minimal.

However I'm also a DA fan that doesn't mind using a hero with a different face and name yet did the same deeds as my Warden/Hawke.

I think this is more important to say that bioware was thinking of everything and trying their best to find a way for us to carry our characters with us.

I really don't think that's true.  I like the Keep, but syncing hasn't worked properly for me, either.  The only characters from DA2 that show up are two that are in my BioWare Social profile that are level 1 and 2, long since deleted and re-made.  I've re-installed and logged in, made sure console was turned off, etc, but DA2 won't sync properly.  A couple of my Origins characters are also missing, but at least my main one is there.

I like syncing, I got to say.

And this is coming from someone who only had 2 wardens (neither of which were ones I planned on using) show up initially.  Happy to say that all of them have shown up since syncing was taken down and then re-enabled.  I'm still having issues when it comes to DLC not showing up, but I'm sure that will be fixed relatively soon.

If you're having issues, check the "known issues" section first.  If your problem isn't listed there, send a bug report; give them as much detail as you can as to what is happening, and then give them some time.  I know it is rather frustrating and nerve-wracking to log in for the very first time only to see that a feature like syncing isn't working.  And it's hard to trust that Bioware will fix your problem before Inquisition releases, if you're new to the beta test.  However, the Keep has been getting more and more stable with each update, and Bioware's shown that they're working hard to try and get the site and features working for everyone.

In short; Keep Calm and Send Feedback.  :)

Well... consider that DA2 had several fairly common bugs and mistakes in the importing of choices from DA:O, and those games were even using the same engine!

The logic that goes into figuring out which choices were made in a save-game is not always straight-forward.

Partially this is BioWare's fault -- they could have set out very explicit parts of the DA:O save files for simple flags indicating exactly what happened -- but maybe they didn't know that they'd be carrying so many things forward when they first made DA:O.  As it is they had to use roundabout logic, inferring things from savegame values like approval levels and partially-related plot flags.  It was error prone and imperfect, and using the Keep to handle it makes things much easier and more accurate.

I do have to say, though -- I'll really miss the ability to do unintended things by futzing with the savegame files ;)  I hope someone makes a savegame hacker for DA:I, but I'm not optimistic -- Frostbite 3 is supposed to be notoriously mod-unfriendly.

It tries to sync my (missing) Hero.  I'd wager to fill in the tapestry for me.  And that's fine and a time saver for some, but for the rest of us I wish there was a way to disable it.

Do you mean it goes through the whole synching process everytime you log in?  Because if that's what you mean, that shouldn't be happening and would be a bug.

However if you mean on just the first time you log in...  well, I'm not sure what to tell you...  it isn't too long of a process IMO.  And it should only run once.  (unless you manually sync using the "Play Resync" button)
