I'd think Alexius just had her tortured with magic, except that one of the devs said that her armored up appearance in the gameplay vid was just a placeholder for something spoilery.

That implies that something was done to her that left a visible mark. It also couldn't just be cuts or bruises, because you'd expect that with torture, and that wouldn't be spoilery. Likewise I'm guessing that she isn't nude, or at least that isn't what the dev was referring to, because that wouldn't be spoilery either.

That's why I'm sort of wondering whether she got Fenris'd up with lyrium. I can't think of any other physical chances to her character model that would be considered spoilerish.

That ritual also erases memory (because, well, you don't want a pissed-off slave with new reality-warping powers). Leliana showed no signs of that.

Alexius may not have been done when you interrupt him.

Man just imagine  the shrieking from those women-should-be-attractive peeps if one of the few traditionally attractive women in DAI gets horribly scarred. Maybe loses an eye. It would be glorious.

Actually it changes nothing. If a person with 10/10 in looks gets disfigured - they still carry the beautiful-genes. Getting disfigured does not change your DNA. Getting disfigured also does not change the way someone smell or taste (as for kissing not cannibalism :P

Meaning: Getting disfigured does not lower the appeal to be with a ex-beautiful person because your offspring will still be beautiful and thus have an edge in survival. Also, getting disfigured doesent change the core of who someone is / personality... well ... sometimes it does, but you get the point. In other words, if I was dating a woman I found naturally beautiful - then her getting disfigured would not make me abandon her.

Also... Cassandra's scar? Only makes her even more beautiful, because slight imperfections makes perfection.

Alexius isn't even in the room, IIRC. It's some random torturer whom Leliana strangles with her thighs.

She doesn't strangle him. She breaks his neck.

Sure it does; you still have to look at them.  :P

sadly I cant see us sending in cullen because... lets face it cullen vs leliana is no choice.

I'm not only do you save leliana from getting tortured, you get the opportunity for cullen to get tortured instead.

I mean........ where's the downside? :P

And whenever someone talks about Leliana torture scene people always bring up a desire to torture Cullen instead. Seriously this is getting really old.

I'll send each of the advisors on different playthroughs just to see their outcomes and reactions.
It would be nice to see disfigurement on our characters/advisors/companions for a change, it adds to realism and makes a scene more emotionally impactful. Besides people dont come out pristinely clean from the war.

I don't want her to get disfigured but I do want her torturer to SMACK THAT DAMN LIP GLOSS OFF HER FACE! That **** looks stupid. Leliana isn't a 13 year old tween that wears pink and shops at the mall and applies liberal amounts of frosted, glittery lip gloss.
*rolls eyes*

Of course she is, she is from O'rlais

Good thing Leliana has this under her bed.

I hope there will be more instances that can have a bad effect on advisers. With this instance we know Leliana will get tortured, so its choice has changed from "which adviser will I use against this?" to "To send Leliana to torture or not?".

I think I would have preferred not reading this thread at all.  Not upset about it or anything, though.  I'll probably have a hard time sending her on it now, too, though.  It's weird that they would tell us it was a placeholder because it's too spoilery, when that's a huge spoiler in itself.

I doubt shes getting maimed in anyway. I think people on the forum are just taking statements out of context and blowing things way out of proportion. Similar too all  the panic about Sera supposedly dieing in this mission when its very likely she was just knock unconscious.

That's what granting anonymity does to people.
People say/do nasty stuffs on the Internet.

Except this is a discussion about cartoon characters. There is nothing nasty about discussing what your fictional character will do to another fictional character, since, you know, none of it is real. The way you choose to roleplay doesn't reflect what kind of person you are in real life. ;)

What I find weird is that people assume that whoever you send on that mission will get tortured. I highly doubt the mission states "send one of your advisors to get tortured". I can hardly imagine why Josephine would get herself captured from behind a diplomacy desk either.

It's probably something like:

1)  Send Leliana to assassinate Alexius

2) Have Cullen take the Inquisition's armies to knock on Alexius' door

3) Have Josephine attempt diplomacy with Alexius

As we all know a) wouldn't turn out great for Leliana, but I don't see a reason why using another advisor would lead to them getting tortured as well. Maybe a different kind of "penalty", like sending Cullen would seriously hurt the Inquisition's armies and you can't use Cullen for a while.

At least I hope it's not just a "whoever you send gets tortured" type of deal. Using different advisors and getting the same end result would be serious bummer for replayability.

I wish I hadn't watched that video now. Knowing what happens to Leliana now makes it impossible not to meta game when I get to that choice.

I remember some one posting when we go to rescue her she was disfigured by the mage

I believe she was disfigured in her nether regions, which is why we couldn't see it in the video.

I'm pretty sure that would have been noted in the ESRB rating summary, regardless of whether something like that was shown, heard or just implied.

She apparently hates mages if she gets captured. I believe one of the devs had a comment about it.

I imagine that would be an issue for my romanced mage warden. :(

If anybody tortures Leliana, I'm gonna have to find a blowtorch and a lead pipe.

Dat's all I'm sayin'.

EDIT  :  For anyone in the game that has hurt her.   Not the writers.   Sorry I was a little misguided with my post.

EDIT x 2 :  Hmmm, would delete it, but...   Eh.

No one is laying a finger on Leliana... If she is mistreated in any way, Gaider better allow me the ability to port my Warden-Commander into the game immediately and give the smack-down to anybody and everybody simultaneously resolving all conflicts in Thedas immediately.

From what has been said so far, that mission is an option not forced, so no need to get like that.

Not only is it optional, but from what happens and how they describe it, it sounds like this only occurs if you do certain things while also having pretty much a failure of a playthrough.

I'd consider sending in Cullen for no other reason than because he'd probably take a decent complement of Templars. If that's not enough to avert the torture scene, I've done the best I could.
