Dammit Bioware, y u do dis again?
At this point I think it is their trademark, between Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I cant say I care to much, but you would think they would at least add a weapon strap(seems it wouldnt require much animation changes, either).

Definitely not the only AAA franchises to do this. A lot of games do.
e: and i dunno, it doesn't bother me. as long as there's no major clipping issues i'm fine.

Oh, I know, but Biwoare always does it, so it's almost on of their thing at this point.

They would have to make sheaths for every blade design

Would have liked it if we at least had a loop on our belt/bandolier/etc for a sword to fit through, if they don't want to go through the trouble of designing sheathes.
But meh.

Ya, it makes sense why they dont do it, since they give so many weapon varieties. Doesnt really bother me, but it is funny.

A sheath would create too much clipping issues, sure it would be on you, and you watch it clip in and out of it. 24/7
Most Players would say "I'd rather have no sheath and avoid clipping issues tbh."
and the "Most" or what makes the most money is what rules the AAA gaming industry.

Hang on everyone. We have footage showing that this time longswords are magnetically attached at the waist.
...How come no one ever complains about characters carrying a bow on their back. The only right way to carry a bow on your back is to not carry a bow on your back.

Iorveth in TW2 has a pretty cool sheathe for his bow ![]()
But it should go over the shoulder, yeah? Looks silly.

Well, honestly, if you give your character tons of armor and weapon customization, creating sheaths for all your weapon variation(maces anyone?) would be obnoxious, I'd have to imagine, and incredibly time consuming. This isnt witcher where swords and armor is largely static in look.

Hope your joking, Witcher is all pretty much all long swords that are the same basic shape.

Except every sword in that game was practically the same and you could see the blade magically materializing through the side of the sheath instead of entering from the top.
bioware has swords/hammers/mauls of all shapes and sizes, so that would be designing 1 sheath for each type of sword.
and skyrim isn't a good example since there were only like 20 different kind of long swords in that game. and still had clipping issues.
Sheaths are just hard to do in games, i don't think anything of it except when the weapon is float half a foot off the body.

I can't think of a way to get that two handed sword out of a sheath that isn't clunky and unnecessary.

I just lol'd because I was imagining a guy running into darkspawn by surprise bending over in a massive panic, trying to pull his sword out as quickly as possible.

Right? Like, realism is fine in certain areas but I just cannot be asked to care about watching my character struggling with mundane leather straps all for the sake of "muh 'mersion."
