Regardless of role playing my characters, certain of my own preferences do get through.

I prefer to get to know the characters first, and really some appeal to me more as friends than they ever would as a LI (Garrus, Leliana, Zevran).

I may be old fashioned or Demisexual (depending on your viewpoint), but I need to feel emotionally involved with the character for them to become an LI (same as in real life). Alistair did this really well in DAO.

DA2 was problematic as I found the LIs to be of limited interest to me (preferred Varric and Aveline), but would often choose Sebastian or Fenris just because I tended to play Pro-Templar game/Mage ending.

My hope for DAI, is that we return to strong character interactions again. I also find it interesting that we have various LIs from all sexuality types and I find myself wondering if Asexuals are represented by Vivienne, and Grey A or Demisexuals by Cullen or Solas.

I'm a man in a heterosexual relationship, but I frequently play women in heterosexual relationships in BioWare games. My Wardens (who with an exception for the Morrigan romance trophy were almost always female) usually went for Alistair and then later Zevran. In DA2 all my female Hawkes went for Fenris, though I did do an Isabela romance once. I romanced Anders with male Hawke, however, because I vastly prefer Anders with male Hawke to female Hawke for some reason.

I'm really divided over DA:I romances so far. I'm likely to role a male character for Dorian and Cassandra, who are the main romances that interest me. That said, I'm also very interested in Solas and Josephine, so I might roll a female elf and then try and decide between them.

As they say, appearance isn't everything, but there are some character that looks so repellent that even they personality can't save them. Case in point, Vivienne. I can't stand how she looks nevermind doing anything more than leaving her in the camp through the entire game.

And it works both ways. There are nicely looking characters with so screwed personality that I don't want to have anything to do with them. Case in point, Merrill.

Now about romances. If I play as a female charcater I rarely do them because F/F doesn't interest me all that much, and F/M are out of the question for me.

On the other hand, when I play as a male character, I am doing all the available M/F romances there are (all with some exceptions like Vivienne and Merrill I mentioned before). M/M, I am not doing them no matter what.

Well, Vivienne's not romanceable anyway, so that's off the table.

As a heterosexual male I am only interested in heterosexual romances. I would never never roleplay a m/m or f/f romance.

Anyway, I have deemed both Cassandra and Josephine as too unattractive for my Inquisitor and am not planning on having him romance either of them. However, my Inquisitor might romance Cassandra if she turns out to be a very interesting character. Not only good looks make a girl attractive.

First and foremost I want to start out and say that I want mature answers in this post. I am simply curious of the answers and do not want this to escalate into some form of war of sexuality matters.

I have the tendency to try all forms of romances in DA. For this question to be more understanding I can start out and say that I am a man in a heterosexual relationship. There.

For example. When I played DA:2 with my male Hawke I romanced Anders on several occasions and went all the way (if you know what I mean) why? Because he was the most interesting character in the game for me. All the female characters except Merill was plain boring to be honest and that's why I chose to go with Anders.

When I look at the characters in DA:I I can already feel that Dorian seems more interesting than Josephine and Cassandra and will probably romance him.

So my question is, does anyone else just don't care about who you romance and only focus on the "character"?

You sound like you're asking for a cookie.

I'm a guy and I self-identify as being straight, so I tend to go for hetero romances.  I'm open to all types of romances, but I end up doing hetero romances more often.

Really, my favorite LIs are chosen based on the content of their romances.  For example, Garrus is my favorite romance for FemShep in ME simply because of how natural and real it feels.  I don't have a favorite LI in DA2 because all the romances felt a bit lackluster to me.  I prefer Isabela for my LI, but Bethany is my favorite character besides Varric.  In DA:O, Alistair's romance is my favorite because it feels deeper and more meaningful than the other romances.

As for DA:I, I originally planned to romance Sera in my first playthrough, but something pulled me towards romancing Solas.  I'm tempted to go with Josephine, but I'm going to wait until I've finished my 3 planned playthroughs before I romance her.  As for the other LIs... idk when I'll get around to romancing them.  Depends on how much I like them in-game, tbh.

If I play a male, then it's a straight relationship and if a female, it's a lesbian one. Can't bring myself to romance a man. In DA:I it's I think either Cassandra or Sera.

I naturally find females more attractive so straight or lesbian romances appeal to me more, but I do try male romances for a change of pace.

It is, as they say, a role-playing game.  I play as the character how I feel would best serve the story (or my particular version of the set story).

When, it comes to this, I feel it really doesn't matter if you, as the player, are gay or straight or male or female.  BioWare created a game environment for the player to explore.  And in exploring, the player can make story choices across a wide variety of options.  Sex or Sexuality is one of those choices that BioWare has supported throughout most of the games they have created for us.

So, No.  If you are a straight male, and you romance another male in your game, you are not "different."  You are embracing the freedom of story telling in how you want to tell your story.

So, No.  If you are a gay female, and you never experience a straight romance in your game, you are not "devaluing" your experience.  Your story, your story telling in how the options are presented to you.

As a gay male I do tend to go for gay romances for my cannon characters but I have tried nearly all of them in Mass Effect and DA because I wanted to see what the romances added to the character.

Two of my favourite romances were maleshep and Jack a female warden and Alistair, I found them both to be fair more interesting than many of the other characters. I do have to say though that Zevran is my favourite of all of them because I find his character so compelling and the romance really adds a lot to that, I've only romanced him as a male warden but I think it's pretty similar for a female one.

So I guess OP the answer is yes for me too, I find the character and not the gender a more important part in who I choose to romance. I will be romancing Dorian as a male Mage in Inquisition first though, I think that's going to be really interesting.

I'm a gay guy. In Origins I've romanced Zev as a guy and Leliana as a girl, and Alistar as a girl. In DA2 I romanced Anders and Fenris as a guy, Isabela as both and Merril as a girl.
I think relationships help flesh out my character more, and not just the romances. In ME2 my femshep was bbfs with Thane and Samara, and in DA2 Aveline and Isabela were like Sisters to my Hawke.

I romance after a character's appearance and personality. The moment I heard Kaidan's and Fenris' voice, I knew that my particular Shepard (f)/ Hawke (m) would romance them. And interestingly, they also matched pretty well in terms of character.

Once I got through my canon playthrough, I tend to try all romances with characters I thought were interesting.I ended up not romancing Morrigan, Leliana, Merril, Liara, Tali, and Garrus because I either didn't like them as characters or because I couldn't see more in them than a friend.

In my first playthrough I usually follow my own sexual orientation (hetero), but afterwards I'm open for anything. I also tend to metagame after my first playthrough, so that might influence my play behavior. But it's really hard to get over your dislike for a certain character in order to do something with them.

I am A straight married man and I have always done m/f or f/f romances. But I am going to do my first m/m romance because  Dorian is such an interesting person and because I want to see all the romance options for once.

I'm a straight guy and I generally only romance females.  Note that I also play females as often as men, but still just romance females.  I just don't like romancing men, even in a game.  I did romance Alistair once in DA:O just to see the story (and be queen) but just wasn't enjoyable to me.

I do like the romances in these games and others, though I do wish there were more straight male options in DA:I.

I think that is so cool. I am sure I loose out on a lot of content because I am unable to think past my own perception of my self.

... and I found everyone who was romanceable in DA2 annoying so I didn't bother ...

^^ THIS  ^^

While I did "bother", I found none of the relationships in DA2 as satisfying as many of the ones in DAO.

Well, except Hawke/Varric, of course.

(And Aimo rocks!  Check out more of her DA-related art.  She was even asked by BioWare to illustrate a piece about the DR decision.)

Its a videogame so anything goes. It all depends on the character I create but tend to focus on both depending on what my characters are

I tend to go with whatever blends with my story and the main story the best for that character, in DA:O that was primarily Alistair and Morrigan, in DA2 that was Merril.Isabela and Anders.

I dont make a outright choice on my characters sexuality that just seems to develop the same as my character does an like i said who he/she ends up with is dependent on how my character "grows up" an how the story unfolds for them

I RP but I do go based off of my real life preference

I only play as a male

I only romance women

I only like black women in real life as far as romance ect

But seeing as how there is no black women I can ever romance with In most games I go with whoever I think looks good and has a decent personality

When I was young I would always be grossed out by m/m. But I got older and just grew up basicly. I love rpgs and love creating my characters and playing those

Characters as I plan them to be instead as some people who just play their character as themselves.

This is a narrative video game. Not a dating simulator.

I'm going for the romance that best suits the story, not the one which suits my sexuality, though it is a nice addition, I must say.

I'm a guy who identifies as being more gay than straight (but that's a whole other issue) so I suppose that impacts who I have my character romance in my case.

I only ever do m/f or m/m romances, not f/f. In DA:O I romanced Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana (as male) Zevran (as both male and female)

In DA:II I romanced Fenris (as male and female) Anders (as male) Isabela (as male). I didn't like Merrill that much so I never romanced her.

To me, it is mainly the character that I romance. If I don't like the character I won't romance them at all, and I don't think I would do a lesbian relationship just because I always like to either play as a male, or if playing as a female, I would romance a male. That's just my preference though.
