I think I dislike it in general to be honest, especially in Dragon Age, I hate having to bring one along with me everytme I know there is a crap load of locked chests in the next quests, which is why I prefer playing this game on PC for the Open Lock Spells mod. Anyone else dislike the Rogue class?

Rogue is the best class in DAO to play as - lockpicking and stealth and you can scout ahead and disarm traps then use momentum to kill hostiles.

The chests are mostly not worth it in this game,
You get XP for opening them. Those can really add up.
On-topic, yes, when I am playing mage/warrior, I hate rogues for being able to pick locks while I have no similar exclusive talents.

Having a rogue in my party doesn't really bug me, as I like having the melee or the range in there anyway. Sometimes though having a place in my party specifically for a rogue does some times annoy me when I would like a certain party set up for either RP reasons or wanting to get all the party banter that I've missed due to having this rogue in my party.
So like you, I love being on PC and having the ability through mods to have lock opening abilities on my mage. All this magic at my finger tips but your telling me I can't figure out a spell to either melt away this lock or invent some kind of lock picking spell?(which I did in my fanfic)
As to playing one. I hate it. I can't melee if my life depended on it, and I feel the archer gets the short end of the stick when it comes to attacks.

Rogue is my favorite class in DA:O mage is the one I can't stand however it is just the opposite in DA2. Overall if a game offers a rogue class that is going to be my first choice.

Rogue is one of the cooler classes in my opinion, tied with mage. That doesn't have all that much to do with how useful that class is. (At least before my well-spoken Alienage thug, somewhat amoral Dwarven Noble assassin, and my Dalish huntress got all those neat archery talents that don't exist in the original campaign.)

They matter again since Warriors can no longer dual wield. I'll be creating an Elf-Rogue in Inquisition, but he will come after my Qunari-Mage and Human-Warrior.

It was my favorite class in DA:O, and what I'll be playing in DA:I. So... no?

It was my favorite class in DAO, particularly dual-wielding two swords. It's the class I've played the most, and it will probably be what I play first in DAI. However, it is annoying to have to drag either Leliana or Zevran everywhere when I'm playing a mage or a warrior. But I cannot leave a chest or a door unlocked. It would drive me batty. ![]()

Favorite class to play. Mostly because so few of the companion rogues measure up (yes my opinion), except Varric.
Mages are an ok second due to their tactical complexity. Warriors and THF in general is just clunky, heavy, cumbersome, and way too over-simplified to play. For me, anyway. To each his own. I also like the "Authorized Access Only" bit in which I am, indeed, authorized. It's a rogue thing
We like playing the toon class that has exclusive access.
I don't own a console nor do I plan to buy one...I like PC gaming, and as the saying goes, "If it ain't broke...", and it's not. Most especially because if there is a bug or something there's usually a player crafted mod out there to fix it, among other things. In your case, your lock-picking problem with your big clumsy warrior hands.
Happy gaming on your non-rogues

Why would the Chantry lock up the mages if they could do that. ![]()
Templar 1: Hey, lets lock up the mages!
Templar 2: Don't be daft. The mages can just teleport the lock (or themselves) away.
Templar 1: You are the daft one, only rogues can pick locks, and you can't be both a mage and a rogue - you can only dual-class in D&D.

Rogue classes were one of the best classes in Origins and DA: II, you could deliver insane ammounts of damage and easily deflect the majority of atacks using the avoid skills So i'm pretty much looking towards playing as one on my first playtrought.

Oh, I love rogues. I might consider not having a mage in the party, but I'd never go without a rogue. If you don't like them, that's your problem.

Rogue are extremely powerful by the end of the game. With a high defense, almost nothing can touch my Warden.

Only time I was mad at a rogue was when I discovered Zevran had totally lied to me about his lock picking skills. Other than that I like them. Backstabbing rogues are my favorite class after mage. I don't mind bringing one with me, but it is annoying chests don't scale and you run into high-level locks early on that can't be opened.

I really like playing rogues. One especially fun game involved stealthing through as much of the ruined temple at Haven as is possible, solo.

I don't feel like they're quite as well-defined conceptually as the warrior or mage. And I do slightly resent the fact that you pretty much HAVE to have one in your party. But then again, you can solve that problem by being one yourself.

Even my tank trains always had a melee rogue then you get to awakening and you got things like lego scout and rogues just get over the top stupid fun. Rogues in dao > all.

Wow, guys and gals on the PC with the right mods a rogue can become an interesting strategic powerhouse setting traps using the enemies power against them etc.
It's the same with archery even with the combat tweaks mod alone a rogue (or warrior...) can use backstabs and poison with a bow.
The only thing I hate about rogues is that they get tapped by certain enemies (mages etc...) and automatically drop dead and Zevran.

My DAO class analysis would be :
- want to have fun, numerous way to control the flow of battle and your opponents, then play Mage
- want to have fun in hand to hand combat and no exploration restriction then play Rogue
- want to Master both the bow and hand to hand play a warrior, the specialised builds are boring and best left to the NPCs
DA2 had them more balanced.
