Character creator woes. Anyone else have the problem of makeup not showing up really well in the character creator (on my female elf)?

I wasn't playing with makeup, but that "in-the-fade" lighting does you no favors during character creation. It's so dark, everything has a pale yellow-green tint to it, and when you show up in Thedas for the first time your character looks very different from how you expected them to.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys/gals plan on doing when you get the full game? Starting anew, or using your character from EA Access?

Personally, I'm starting anew. I was running around like a loon trying to make the most of the 6 hours rather than absorbing it all - I also felt that I didn't have time to go through everyone's dialogue trees, because of the darn timer. Plus, I wasn't really happy with how my qunari ended up looking... Did anyone else find the lighting in the CC warps what you actually end up looking like?

I'll carry on, I unlike others didn't really rush my self that much, I exhausted all dialogue in haven and with any character that would let me. Only thing that annoys me is, I couldn't run the war table missions at the same time. On a completely irrelevant note, the quartermaster used to work for Loghain which pleases me.

I am actually happy with how my character ended in looks department.....but I plan to start over again (not that I am too far in the story mind you). Mostly because there were too many closed task in this trial and I want to have few perks (if possible) before I start my grand adventure....

...oh yes the traitor!

...joking:) I replied with the perfect diplomatic answer "Why are you telling me this? Do I look like I care?!"  :D

Definitely starting over. Not only did I blow through character creation (though I'm not entirely unhappy with my human warrior), but I really only have my Xbox to play current-gen sports games and the occasional exclusive, the majority of my gaming is on the PC and this won't be an exception.

I'll start over. My human ended up with some major DSLs. I like how my qunari turned out though, but by the time I get around to that playthrough I'll probably want to start her over too.

I'll be starting over too, for multiple reasons. That time limit really did make me rush, and when chatting with a friend about parts of DAI last night (he did EA Access too) I realized there were entire conversations that I either missed, or didn't fully listen to. That timer really did stress me out far more than I realized lol. Looking forward to going as slow as I want after release. :D

I'm starting over because I was rushing around trying to get the hang of it all and I want to redo my char because the green eyes she had turned out more neon than bright. lol.

Broke and paid for a month of EA access. Mostly loving my six hours, even if combat feels off.

Can I ask why? I only played DAO and DA2 on PC so I am not familiar with the combat on consoles. What is so different with DAO and especially DA2 compared to DAI?

Combat definitely felt different for me, too. I can't pinpoint what it is though. Could just be getting back into it after such a long break. I don't know.

Hmm maybe abilities that allow you to dodge or move very fast makes the combat seem more action oriented?

....anyway what I found disconcerning is the targeting...which the tactical cam fix, but that mode is too slow and have some strange limitations (like it don't allow you to go to target if there is a rock/ledge/something in your way).... /sigh

...oh well...as long as I don't play on nightmare I can be the fool that is jumping/doing weird **** instead of battling:))

Edit: Aww the favourite phrase of Varric is censored :(

I feel like it's good for me to read all the people's posts who want to start over. I'm not really that far in (Inquisition was JUST formed), so knowing that people feel like they rushed thorough and want to start over is kind of a warning to me to take my time. Cos I already started over a couple times just cos of trying to get my character right, I'm happy with her look now, so I don't want to feel like I should restart again, from rushing.

To me, I think there's too many buttons now. DA:O and DA2 were very straightforward with A as autoact, X, Y, and B as abilities, and right trigger to get get a second set of abilities. Right and Left Bumper switched between characters, and everything else was done through the radial menu with the left trigger.

Now A is jump, right trigger is autoact, I don't remember what Right and Left bumper, character switching is up and down on the D pad, and locking a target is pushing down on the right stick?

So at this point I mostly just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Hopefully I adjust soon.

I think that's a good idea. Just forget about the timer, and explore as much as you want and take your time. I do however wish to start again because I want to start off with the DLC that you get when you buy the full game, and I also want to be able to do wartable missions whilst I'm exploring at the beginning.

Oh, and I also wasted quite a bit of my time laughing my arse off at all of the bugs I encountered..

If I am thinking of the right button the right bumper is your 4rth ability. And there is no target locking afaik...the RT is just auto attack.

I broadcasted my whole playthrough to twitch (http://www.twitch.tv...ncr/b/588618967) and I went back and kept an eye out for all the tutorial text that I may have missed, and I believe it said pushing down on the right stick locks targets, and then moving the r-stick left or right will switch targets. Tho I haven't tried it yet....

It does for me too, it's so different. Attack has always been the A button, so I kept jumping (and facepalming) my way through combat yesterday. I'm one of the ones who dislike the overall combat redesign though, so I was prepared for the off feel, somewhat.

I dunno, it just doesn't feel like Dragon Age combat to me anymore. I know I will get used to it eventually, but it may take 20 or more hours for that to happen. I'm older and my muscle memory from DAO and DA2 keep insisting I attack with the A button. :P

Oh I misunderstood you then...I keep forgeting that you could push down the sticks...and was thinking of the RT:) That might actually be my solution for my targeting problem so thank you!

Anyway the right bumper is your fourth ability:)

....and the forum is acting up again...yay

/sigh

I'm restarting my playthrough even though I spent close to 4 hours in Haven alone.  I want to take my time and look at what stuff I may have missed, and collect all the little resources around Haven and the Hinterlands.  I am in love with the game sadly I have a quiz on Tuesday so that Will take Priority.  I will definitely get some serious play time Starting next Thursday.

My hours are up. I started off playing on hard, because I thought I'd use the same save for the full game on Tuesday. However, after spending a lot of time fighting minions, I thought it was better to play on normal so I'd waste less time fighting, and more time playing what little I could. Especially with the controls being confusing. Using the trigger for an attack just doesn't seems natural compared to pressing A. Especially when meleeing. It doesn't help that the Xbox One controller isn't the best system controller out there. I really wish I could use my PS4 controller instead.

Kind of disappointed that there's no Race specific abilities. You're the same Mage no matter what race you pick, besides maybe the stats being different.

I wish there were more "character" options for the main player too. So far in the demo there's not much to use to give him/her a personality or past, with a lot of vague options. I feel like Shepard had more personality so far. However, this is just the beginning of the game, so it might get better.

The dialogue wheel is much better then in past Bioware games. No more "Up" for good guy, and "Down" for bad guy, and middle for "Say a joke" or "Good response but less feeling put into it". Instead the options are mixed, and more about different expressions. You now have to actually read them, and the emotion they bring, and decide that way. I only wish you'd be able to see a cheat sheet subtle of what the character says if you stay on an option long enough.

I also love the world. It feels big an awesome. Lots of stuff to do, and not enough time to do it. Solas seems like a cool outlaw scientist, and Cassandra does come off as an impressive woman taking charge. She feels like a Miranda done right, and my Qunari Mage will most likely be romancing her. So overall I did enjoy my playthrough, and wish I could play more.

Omg. I've waited this long for DAI and now I'm going to die before release. 103 fever. Kill me.
