My options are terrible, so I doubt I will romance anyone. If I were, it would depend on the reasons and whether that reason would align with mine. Most likely, I will stand by them as I did with Anders.

Does anyone remember this guy?

Spoiler

Bishop from Neverwinter Nights 2. He is a romance option (sort of). Near the end of the game, just before the big keep siege set-piece, he up and betrays you and switches sides to the world-ending big bad guy because he wants to be on the winning team.

I let him live, told him to get out of there when we met again. Doesn't help that it was my first Bioware game and my first in-game romance.

*shakes fist* You broke my heart, Bishop! (And I still felt sorry for you in Mask of the Betrayer!)

On topic, I would probably be very upset, but I'd likely let them live because I'm a huge sap like that.

Of course, especially since there's a huge possibility the LI may be repentant. I can see having the option to send him/her away (but spare them), have him/her imprisoned, forgive him/her or exact justice. Depending on the LI and approval level of course. Some could just be manipulative and deceiving while others may have had his/her reasons.

Whatever makes for more interesting drama and RP.

So Anders?

No, no, no!

He didn't betray you especially - he did what he thought was right (and in a way it was - the mages needed a kick in the behind to get their crap together and rebell (come on, being treated like a ****** prisoner for something you don't have any control over (your birth) is bad enough - but you are kept prisoner by zealots who think you should either be pitied or vilified/demonized and violate your basic rights simply by existing, in addition to violating your privacy, not granting you your right to a fair hearing, to not be harmed (hit, beaten, tortured, raped and even killed or worse: made tranquil!) etc...can't understand why it took them this long to finally push back!)

Yes, he went about that the wrong way - but he was desperate after all (it's implied that Karl - the tranquil mage you meet in DA2 was his lover and that he was made tranquil against his will (which is worse than torture, rape or being killed IMHO), not to mention everything else Meredith allowed her templars to do (by ignoring that it happened (rape, illegal rights of tranquility etc.) or by outright ordering it)...In that situation I would probably lash out, too (and really, does he have any other options but acts of terrorism? - The appeals process isn't working as Meredith does not seem to listen to the Grand-Cleric (Elthina - who was to "weak" for said job, she couldn't even keep her Knight-Commander in line!) and she does not work with her local Circle Leader either (not that that guy was not a nut-job as well...seriously, using blood-magic, even with my Hawke helping him? -.-))

greetings LAX

ps: Yes, I would hunt that person down (probably not at the expense of everything else (big picture), but yes...to quote from a James Bond Movie: "For England James?" - "No, for me!")

Yes I would.  LI or not, if someone betrays me, they will die.  In a game like this I will end up with a death count of 1000s of random people who mean nothing to me, if someone committed an act that actually hurts my character, of course they die.

I might arrest them first and let them explain their actions, but betrayal is not something one can usually come back from.

Well, ignoring the fact that Josephine betraying the Inquisition is highly improbable.

If she was to betray my main Inquisitor, they would not seek revenge. As I plan to roleplay my Adaar, Josephine would literally be her world. She'd take the quest to track her down and just ask why, to be honest and then let Josephine go and continue on trying to do what she can for the Inquisition and Thedas.

Depends on who I'm playing.

A nice character will probably forgive them.

My neutral/darker characters will kill them personally. Just business.

Its like The Reaper War in MASS EFFECT, the other races basically had no choice but to join Shep. and crew because there is no reasoning with an enemy that wants everyone and everything dead.......you either join, commit, and fight for a future or sit back and do nothing and watch your people perish.

And then whine and tell people to be sorry for you when they hit Thessia.

On topic. If that happened ingame I'd just wish to be able to finish him off like Zaeed does if you let him. Beat the LI up, and when he's begging for mercy finish him/her off.

Dark? Yes. But the LI betrayed, roleplaying as I do my character wouldn't be in the mood to do pretty or forgiving thing.

This reminds me of DA2. Not Anders, though... ironically, but actually Fenris. One playthrough, I was a mage, and he got kinda angsty when I supported the mages, we weren't an element, but still friends. He strolls in at the end and is all: Yo Hawke, I know I acknowledged you as my only real friend, but let's fight to the death because magic.

FFS Fenris, were you actually paying attention when I slaughtered every enemy I faced in the game, ever? huh? I mean, what did he think was gonna happen? Ah, but I like Fenris, actually, I want to do another mage playthrough and give that Rival Romance a shot, I hear it's pretty good.

But as for the OP question (sorry for the off-topic rambling)...
Actually, in the context of a Bioware game, I believe the question to be a contradiction, and therefore will not entertain such a mind-game. :P

I'll be disappointed if something like this happens. Turning them into straightforward enemies just doesn't seem really fitting, especially in Morrigan's case.

You forgot how Bishop didn't want to get tied down to a woman because silly reasons and being Duncan's niece. Guy had some serious emotional damage in the head.

I had a good hearted character and I killed Anders anyway.

The reason is that, leaving them alive, could compromise the safety and life of others around.

I'd seek justice on them like I would on any other betrayer. Whether that's death or anything else depends on the circumstances.

I'm guessing that's a patch or a mod of some sort, because I know that NWN2 ends with a bit of a "rocks fall, everybody dies". Even if you get Bishop to leave (I never had the option to get him to fight with me, only to not fight against me), when you see him again in Mask of the Betrayer,

Spoiler

Sometimes I get the feeling Bioware didn't like him much. :P

... Depends. I ran off with Anders, so that says a lot.

My Inquisition will be strong-handed, but good. If they can't agree with that, that's their problem.

If they try to sabotage the good work my Inquisition does... I would be forced to chase them down and take 'em out.
