I wouldn't mind a little one-off expansion or something, but I really can't see Bioware pouring the amount of resources necessary to pull it off, and to be fair, they are probably better off focusing on the future of the franchise rather than closure for a character that has already had a massive amount of content.
Can we have a mature discussion about the Warden returning to a future game or expansion?

Personally, I'm just fine with off-screen involvement, which we WILL get in DA:I. I don't need to see my Warden as long as they're acknowledged (which they WILL be in DA:I).
Sorry for the heavy-handed emphasis, but it seems a lot of people think that "no appearance" means "no involvement".

I vote we have this discussion after we've played DA:I and find out what the Warden related storyline is.
Personally, I'm confortable with leaving my Wardens as past protagonists (am i the only one that talks in plurals about their Wardens?). I loved my Wardens but their stories were a long time ago and all ended very differently to one another.
I took Mr Gaiders comments on this subject to mean that anyone hoping for the continued adventures of the Warden were going to be very disappointed, not just in DA:I but at any time.

My warden had decent closure. He went with Morrigan through the Eluvian, the end.

Hawke appears on screen.
But her Grey Warden only got a mentioned?
Morrigan is having his child, and she makes a come back, and plays a very
important role in Inquisition. Yet her Warden only gets a mentioned?...
If Morrigan could have her way... Ferelden will burn for this decision...

So why does Morrigan show up in Inquistition without him or the baby?

Divorce. Warden Got the rights for the child.

Divorce.
So basically, the biggest reason people keep bringing up for there not being a return of the Warden (head canon), is already screwed over? If they're going to change his story like that, they might as well make an official canonized version of the Warden.

No, I used your joke to illustrate the logical problem which comes with having Morrigan/Leliana play prominant roles in Inquisition.

If you think so, that's fine. I thought the point was more than clear enough for most readers.

There's no logical problem , there's some headcanon problem.
Morrigan had her own quest since DAO , and Leliana took a job as the Divine left hand.
The Warden still have his /her warden duty , if you survived after DAO ...you rebuild the wardens in Ferelden for a time.
Being a couple doesn't mean you can't ever live apart .
Anyway in DAI it seems the warden will be busy doing something off screen.

Orlesian Warden in Awakening had ending where he was called to leave his post in Vigil Keep to return to Weisshaupt in Anderfels due to rumours of an archdemon sighting.
Anyways I guess something similar went on with the Hero of Fereldens case as well.
As for Warden in future game, I think its very unlikely due to the fact how writers are so adamant about making new protoganists for each game. So I guess only option is that he is main char of DLC similar to Leliana Song. Would actually be pretty good if it was during the same time as Inquisition is going and this whole thing is shown from another perspective to see what is going on when Inquisitor isn't around.

I think the game will offer some closue to the Warden's story without showing them...which is perfect, imo.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I am not anti-Warden or anti more stories that the Warden shows up in, in theory. If anyone can explain to me a way that they could use the Warden as a voiced NPC and accurately capture most people's characters while using them in a meaningful way, please do so, and I'll change my tune on it. But I honestly think it would be impossible to do, and everyone would freak out and hate it.
I agree with this !
I'm anti-canon . Canon usualy mean my story never happen....and I don't like that .
Sometimes it's better to let a hero sleep then bring her or him out and do it wrong .

Honestly, at this point I think my Warden is either dead or about to die in the Deep Roads. It wouldn't surprise me. In any case, if the Warden was to come back, I think I'd rather have him appear in some sort of bonus media. Doesn't need a whole game for itself. Could be an interactive novel online, like the Keep or something similiar. A DLC would be fun, sure, but the writers and producers told us that they don't see him appearing in this game. So for now, instead of insisting on pushing their buttons, I'd wait for the final result of Inquisition and see what they've planned for us in the future.

As for the Warden, the biggest problem with bringing him/her back as a NPC is him/her lack of voice and too many possible personalities. I would love to see DA 4 with the Warden as the PC again. Give the Warden two (maybe three, might be too much work though) like the Inquisitor. The players can set his/her personality when they play the game, and I think these will satistify MOST people. As for the plot, the next game will most likely about the Qunari Invasion. We know who is the current Arishok; from the conversation with Sten in Origins, it implied that the Qunari know of the Grey Warden tales. Sten also saw the Grey Wardens in action in Origins and came to respect them. If I'm the leader of an Invasion, I would aim for the people I see as the biggest threat, in this case for Sten, it might be highly Grey Wardens (or cookies). As for US warden, give the the players the option to play as the First Warden. The multiple races/ origins is what I love about Origins and something DA 2 lacked. There is so little we know of how the so called leader of the Grey Warden and how S/he is selected/elected, and it would be great to see Weisshaupt Fortress.
By the time the Qunari is pushed back and so few Grey Wardens alive, have another Bright start (or the last two at the same time).
P.S. I always see the Warden recruiting Sten and helping him find his sword as the canon version. He can't be the Arishok if we leave him to die in the cage and he can't return to the Qunari w/o his sword.

A sixth blight?
I posted this in the "other" thread before it got deleted; I'm afraid that Hawke will play too much of a role in DA:I. David Gaider did said that Hawke will play a significant role in the recent Twitch stream. Hawke will mostly like be there when we end the Mage/Templar War and from the Enemy of Thedas Trailer, s/he might be there for the fight against the Elder One. I'm fine with Hawke returning and all because of DA2's cancelled DLC, but I don't want DA:I to be the story of Hawke 2.0, since it is the story of the Inquisitor.
-snip-
Cameron Lee said that, not David Gaider. All Mr Gaider has said is that the warden has a role to play in the game and that we will hear about them

This is more or less how I feel about it. I'll reserve judgment until I've completed Inquisition. I'm hoping that I'll get more than what I got out of Dragon Age 2, but I also feel that if I don't get something out of Inquisition, the boat will have long since passed for my attention span on the Warden. The next DA entry probably won't be until 2016/2017 at the earliest, and it'll have been 8 years by then. I'll probably be more curious about what goes on with the Inquisitor than a character I developed that long ago.

I'm assuming (and I'll be perfectly fine with it) that we'll get some sort of cameo with an honorable mention. Like Alistair in DA2 "She has a name you know!" (if he's alive and king).
For me, the Warden's story has been told, just put a capper on it and be done.

First - someone help me out, I don't remember - Does "the Warden disappeared" line still happen in the cutscene of DA2 if your Hero/Warden died stopping the Blight?
Second - I think the Warden disappearing and hearing bits and pieces of it behind the scenes is the perfect end. I don't think we need to beat their story into a bloody pulp and see every last moment. I let my Warden go after DA:O and while the DA2 bit intrigued me with my living Warden, it didn't make me think I'd see them again.

I suppose... The best analogy I can come up with is that with the Warden I felt more like an actor and with Hawke I felt more like a director (If that's makes any sense) so I'm much more comfortable with Hawke appearing whereas I'm far less confident they could pull off the Warden in a satisfying way.
