I started to watch this second video, with awful sound and helium voices, despite huge warning signs flashing everywhere "SPOILERS!!" After about 20 minutes I gave up. My blood pressure skyrocketed and my neighbours probably went deaf. And my throat hurts from all this screaming - "You can't attack Templar Defender from the front! Your attacks are blocked by this massive shield! You're a rouge, move behind him!" "What are you doing! Are you nuts!" "Stop wiggling this camera around!" "You can't do this!" and so on...

It was a torture, I just couldn't enjoy the gameplay or views or NPC's, I was just simply irritated. I guess all Mike Laidlaw presentations of the game really pampered me...

I am deciding btw that the inquisition should invest heavily in large numbers of templar defenders. The heck with the mages and templars, we could steam role tevinter and the Qunari at the same time with an army of those marching in front of us.

My response to the video: yes I went into rant mode, but this two idiots ticked me off:

Considering he thinks you are the same as a Qunari mage but somehow free leads me to doubt that he knows squat about DAI.

Why do people not get that the preview game is extremely light in story elements because they aren't wanting to give away spoilers.

Also, random NPCs have never had full blown conversations. You couldn't talk to 80% of the characters in DAO and in most any game, except for quest givers its usually just a one line thing.

Also, there are plenty of quest givers I have seen to say no about accepting a quest or investigating. Heck Corporal Vale if you select investigate gives you 6 different discussion topics with him.

Ram meat quesat- feeding refugees who you are trying to get support of

Robes for villagers- again trying to get refugees support

Medicine for friend--Did this idiot actually pay attention. It isn't a friend, it is the guys wife, and it isn't a friend who makes the medicine, it is their son!!

What side quest turned into a 2 hour adventure in DAO??

The main story quests are tied to the War Table you hack!  Going to Val Royeux and addressing the chantry is very interesting, going to a ball hosted by Vivienne, going to the winter palace for a ball to end the civil war, exploring what is happening to the wardens, etc etc etc.  Lord this guy is a tool!

Not to mention Skyhold and the judgements and the companion interactions, and having the actual story truly opened to you. In the playthrough, the moment you go to Val Royuex the game ends.

Seriously, is not having playable origins the end of the world?  I enjoyed them, but seriously?

And no people are not after DAO2, some may, but it has horrible horrible horrible combat, and I really don't get the awesomness that some people hold the side quests and such in DAO as being so memorable. The story was good, but it was mostly on rails like a roller coaster, except for the order you did things.  DAO was a great game, but it isn't like there is nothing wrong with the game.

No disadvantage to letting party members drop....Unless you are playing Ultima Exodus where it costs an arm and a leg to revive someone, there is never much of a penalty for letting someone die in combat....oh great and you are whining about no healing making it less tactical.....

And yes, as you admit, they didn't let you play the full origin.  Its like making this review if DAO started in Lothering......

and the inability to have a conversation without swearing continues to dumbfound me......

Big decisions???? You make all of no important big decision in the first 4 hours of DAO.  That puts you just past Lothering....what big decision did you make?

Some of ya'll need to chill. My only criticism of their criticism would be that they're making it sound like meaningless fetch quests have REPLACED interesting side quests. Now maybe that actually is the case but I think we get a ton of meaningless side quests in ADDITION TO the meaningless ones. And that has always been a thing with DA.

Well if there criticisms were intelligent and actuallly sounded like they paid attention to what they were doing I might chill.

The game won't be perfect. Neither was DAO. But most of their complaints are rather ignorant sounding.

So... The fact that most of the positive opinions from other videos, which frequently came form people who barely ever even played any Dragon Age, are inteligent opinions?

Those guys obviously played Dragon Age and know some of its lore, certainly more than an average person who released a video that day.

Their critisism was always grounded with an argument or their expcetations based on previous games. Still they were careful with their opinions.

It is absolutely logical to expect certain standards or elements from a particular franchise. You might not understand or know why some people expect DAI to be ike DAO, but if you had at least slight knowledge about brand you would get a glimpse of the reasoning behind it.

What I do find fascinating and scary is that your rant implies that their critisism was almost like a personal insult to you.

Kleon, I am not arguing that, but by all means, if you disagree with my criticism of their review--fefute my critique.  I literally typed it while listening to them talk, it is literally the only review I have ever done that to because it was driving me nuts hearing them say stuff that made absolutely no sense.

Seriously, I even looked through the Wiki of DAO quests trying to find a side quest that turned into a 2 hour adventure that was in DAO.

The complaint about not being able to talk to people and have conversations--Corporal Vale has lots of conversation options, and the two things people said about DAO---Either the towns were too underpopulated or you couldn't talk to people.  Its a typical RPG trope to have the people fill in a setting that have no real conversation-this isn't new to DAI and was compltely present in DAO.

What I gather from your rant post is that you were highly emotional, which as a result might have clouded your judgement.

You seem to have forgotten that those were their impressions of what Origins was like to them, and that they confronted that with what they, or one of them, experianced during his time with DAI.

Not emotional, just frustrated at the misrepresentation of information.  I can concede there are things to criticize DAI over that DAO did better, none of what they listed fits that bill. I expect their criciticism to be accurate if they are going to give it.

Frustration is not an emotion?

Why would you be frustrated about their "misinterppreation" of information in their vid, but not the others? What is that "misinterpretation" supposed

to be? Do you hold the key to "right and proper" interpretation of the information?

By that logic you should be frustrated whenever someone expresses an opinion that differs from yours...

They are giving factual examples of what they don't like that I can actually take issue with.

Saying the game side quests aren't as good because in DAO they turned into a 2 hour adventure isn't accurate.  No one can give me an example that DAO sidequest became a 2 hour adventure.

Their comment about not being able to have a conversation with NPCs in the game when they could talk to everyone in DAO isn't accurate as most NPCs in DAO were just filler.

I can take issue with this.

I can't argue with someone who says DAI has a huge world with lots of things to do and a good story as I haven't played the game to do so.  I therefore have no basis with which to take issue with their statement.

But seriously if you take issue with my critique of them, refute any of the things I said.

That's because you don't think of DAO side quests as such. They were all over DAO. Helping Filda in Orzammar, The Antivan Crows quests in Denerim, helping a dalish elf find information about his wife?

Those were all side quests and they were very often story driven. Not to mention the choices you could make.

Now its just: go kill 10 wolves and return, get me 10 pieces of meat. Little to no dialogue, no actual choices. Last I checked even MMOs put more story into fetch quests, and I played an MMO a long time ago.

I get that those were sidequests, but none of them took 2 hours of adventuring.  They said "A sidequest in DAO would take 2 hours to complete and lead you on this big adventure." None of those quests even if you did all the crows quests or whatever were 2 hours. They were fetch quests.  The same as the story driven quests of doing things for the refugees who you want the support of. Or killing the wolves so the horse breeder will give you horses for your inquisition and not be worried they will be eaten before they get to you. That is the reason you kill the 10 wolves.

This first are is comparable to lothering in what they had in the preview and while a lot of story elements were removed or not accessed, a lot was still in there.  If you do the simple quest of helping the elf widow recover her husbands ring from the templars, you also learn an interesting tidbit about the templars and what is going on with them from a letter you find after you kill the templar who had the ring.  That has as more story to it then any of the sidequests in Lothering- what with the give the mayor 10 potions, or give the 3 farmer poison traps, or  etc.  You had the nug quest in Orzammar that was a fetch quest.  It isn't anything new or different.

I understand The concern (I have it as well), but there's no confirmation yet.

You just compared a typical older MMO-ish quest of kill ten wolves to helping Filda, where you had a lot of dialogue and you could decide whether you want to kill her son, tell her the truth about him, or lie to her?

Have you seen the video footage? Those DAI fetch quests are like ME3 scaning fetch quests, you get short dialogue about something, scan a planet and deliver the item. No story, no choices. Even MMOs did more with their fetch quests some time ago, and they supposedly evolved since then.

Following that logic one could say that BioWare, instead of making progress, made regress.

Actually no, I was comparing those quests to the quests in Lothering as I said I believe the hinterlands are similar area to Lothering. Filda is a much more fleshed out sidequest, but it wasn't something you encountered in the first 4 hours of gameplay either. My point was, the quests shown in the gameplay are exactly comparable with the ones you experience in Ostagar and Lothering.

I would say most people found Ruck on the way through the main quest though, so it wouldn't take 2 hours independently really.

Actually it took 15 min. The 2 hours is from the Main Story. You have to go through the deep roads and reach the point where Ruck is. That is non-optional. The only real portions of Filda's quest were talking to her, and engaging her son, then talking to her again. That took all of 15 min total.

DA:O had plenty of boring quests too. Collect nine pieces of corpse gall. Find some ironbark. Deliver a box you found. Gather 10 garnets. Get 15 toxin extracts. Make this Herbalism recipe.

If someone showed you only a few quests from DA:O—and if those quests were among that game's least interesting quests—the game would look pretty dull indeed.

I think what you mean is some DAI fetch quests are like MMO quests. Some DAO quests were as well. Remember the Chanter's Board (and the Rogue and Merc versions)? They were the exact same. 0 context, just go and kill/deliver/do something.

Some DAI quests will be like that too, its pretty much a given in any RPG, I would bet real money that some DAI side quests will be lengthy and involved as well.

DAO was a great game, and I'm iffy on whether DAI will be better than it (I actually loved DAO combat). But lets not forget its flaws as well as its victories.

Let's make a epic side quest to Inquisition Ruck style!  ;) You talk to the horsemaster who want's you to kill wolfs. Thing is, these wolfs are in the place where you have to go because of the main quest. Main quest take's 4 hours, along the way you kill the wolfs that horsemaster asked. You come back to horsemaster, get couple of dialogue choices *BOOM* EPIC 4 hour side quest, eat that Origins!  :P

In a more serious note, I love Origins to bits. I've played it over 30 times, playing it now in fact, but there's no reason to put it on the pedestal as if there's nothing wrong with it. We know something about fetch quests, but do we really now any side quests? And heck, if my soldiers need wool and silk to have better tents, I will get them wool and silk or die trying!  :D

It's not like we're relying only on cherry picked examples of bad quests. We've seen quite a lot of gameplay, of stuff that Bioware has chosen to put out there, not maliciously leaked stuff.
