It depends on when it pops up in game, if it's right at the start of the game, sure I'll spend a bit of time and customize him. If it's right before he shows mid way through the game, no way in hell I'm wasting time customizing him.
It's why I'm glad the Warden isn't showing up, Hawke at least had a look, the Warden was default.

I'll stick with default. That's how my Hawke looked like when I was playing him, so why would I change his appearance? Doens't make much sense.
A better question might be to those who used a custom appearance for Hawke: will they try to recreate their appearance (which won't be easy, I imagine), or just use the default appearance?

This is actually a frustrating question. Because of the asinine decision to lock the default Hawke appearance down many PC gamers, including myself, downloaded a mod which allowed character creation using the default Hawke as a base. That way we could, for example, remove that stupid nose blood swipe, change eye color and hairstyles, thin the face, ect. I personally loved changing hair between Acts; making an evolving character. Default in Act 1; tight ponytail in Act 2; loose ponytail in Act 3. Reflecting the position, so to speak.
So it depends on what Inquisition does. Almost certainly it will follow DA2 and not allow any modification to the default appearance; but knowing that for certain would be very helpful so we can choose Default Appearance in the Keep before playing however many hours and being slammed with a butt-ugly Hawke creation process.
I'll probably add a scar or two to reflect the injuries inflicted to him by Meredith.....

Agreed. I'm thinking any man Hawke will get at least a tweaking now. Male Human Inquisitor looks kinda derpy as well. I'm hoping it's just both of there defaults.

I always customized Hawke in my games, but I like the look of default Hawke enough that I might not customize him again. Especially if that means that Carver will look like hot garbage again, which he does in DA2 if you customize Hawke without modding him to keep his default appearance. Not that I expect Carver/Bethany to appear in this game.

If the stupid red stripe on their face is there then I'll get rid of it. Otherwise no. Default Hawke face forever.
If we can tweak the default Hawke I will most definitely do that. Male Hawke looks a bit odd to me on Frostbite, and anyway he should be, yeah, a bit older now. I might make him look a little more gaunt because his ending was depressing in my run. Might give him a scar as well, if that's an option. It really depends on what they allow us to do in the CC for Hawke, and if they allow us to tweak the default at all, or if we'd have to start from scratch in that case.
They confirmed it a while back. We don't yet know in what context the option will appear, but you'll have the ability to tinker with Hawke's look.

Knowing this I will definitely customize my Hawke.
DA2 has a pretty bad character creator, so I always picked the defaults. I will stick with the default Hawke in DA:I unless it comes with the blood smear, which I think looks silly.
I'm gonna keep my default FemHawke but I'm going to add the blood mark/scar/red line thing to her for DA:I
It kinda stood out as weird looking to me in DA2. Especially considering you became nobility and all that by Act 2 and it looks even stranger at an Orlesian party. Now that she's been on the run for years and looks a lot more rugged and hardened, I think now it's quite a suitable look.
I chose the default female Hawke without the red smear on her face, so if she ends up with that mark on her face by default, then I'll have to at least remove it.
But overall, I quite liked the look of the iconic female Hawke so I won't completely change her looks.
I too had the default Hawke without the war paint smudge.
And that will be just fine.
