To get this thread back on topic: I support the idea of same-sex romance and would applaud if Bioware would see fit to cater to all gamers so that they have equal opportunities to have an immersive game experience. Bioware has done this in the past and many of us would appreciate it in the present game (as a patch or even (ouch) as an optional DLC) as well as in future games.

Thanks in advance! :)

If the dialogue has all been voiced like in ME1, I don't see why they shouldn't release a patch to get rid of gender checks or something. Those who want it can download it, those who don't can leave it alone.

At this point I believe the best we can hope for is a couple ME3 gay LI's. I really doubt (though I could be wrong) that they're gonna make a gay LI in any DLC (unless whoever this rumored Kasumi is). Though, if the coding isn't locked up so tight this time I might actually be able to mod the gender checks. Also I'd like to mod some new hair for male sheps and females, maybe a beard or two as well.

The amount of hostile and off-the-topic replies is astounding. Internet never changes, does it?

I have been avoiding the forums slightly since I started noticing a fair amount of spoilers around here yesterday so I can't really tell how many of these threads have popped up since I last browsed through, but in all honesty I'm glad they keep popping up - even if they get locked - atleast the message comes out heard.

ME2 release is just around the corner, and whether it includes a M/M or F/F romance option is out of our reach by now, unless it comes later in a form of DLC, which I doubt. However, ME3 release isn't just yet, and by keeping up the pace and bringing up the message so Bioware gets it through we should be able to assure a same-sex romance (Bioware willing) in ME3. Eventhough I am still keeping my fingers crossed that when I am playing through ME2 I suddenly notice my character has succesfully slipped into a same-sex relationship! :)

It just happens that in regards to gaming, not much is better than roleplaying with endless possibilities, exploring thoughts and desire you'd not dare dwell on in real life, try different roles and experience different mindsets. Having the possibility to roleplay romancing humans, male or female, alien or fish - now that sounds like a romantic roleplayers' dream, eh? That to me is the beauty of roleplay.

It's pretty odd to me why a dev hasn't come out and made it apparently obvious that there would most definately not be a same-sex relationship by now, seeing as they must be aware of the situation of the forums. Sure, Casey said what he said, but in all fairness that was just so random! Maybe a surprise waiting? Yeah, wishful thinking...

Anyway, whatever the case I'll be continuing my Liara-loving-lesbian-life in regards of ME roleplay, and we'll see what happens. I'm sure Bioware will deliver an amazingly immersive game and soon we are set to experience it!

What the Hell is with the "Us/Them" mentality?

"Gay pushers" and "straight pushers"?

This is ridiculous.

I was actually just using his own words, really. I honestly think that it is "us versus them" right now cause it's five people for, and five people against who attack each other back and forth. To be fair, it was the against who started it, and every once in a while someone will come in and voice their own opininion on the matter one way or another. It's all antagonism and it needs to stop because everytime people for reply with anger to people against it gives us a bad image, while doing nothing to them.

My suggestion is a quick, usually emotionless breakdown followed by something about the game.

They don't force you to do any of the romance just because the content is there.

It is OPTIONAL!!!

They're not going to force me to play any of the crappy hetero romances that they flooded the game with and I will opt not to play them.

And it is also optional to do any hetero-romance in the game. Don't like the hetereosexual relationships? Don't get involved in them.

What makes you think that Gay romances would be better? lol
Take your own advice.

LOL, you are by far the most antagonistic gay pusher on this forum.  I'm surprised you haven't been banned yet, considering the amount of inane vulgarities that you've spewed over the past few days; including attacks on peoples' mothers, families etc, which just goes to show that you have absolutely no class whatsoever..

But there's a difference.  I don't have the option to do the homosexual romances in place of the hetero ones because they aren't in the game.  So, by choosing not to do the heterosexual romances I'm totally SOL when it comes to romances.

In your original post, you were worried about optional homosexual romances.  However, you still have plenty of heterosexual possibilites so you would be fine in playing those and ignoring the homosexual option.

I don't get why all these gays (and no, I'm not using it as a derogatory term) want to push their agenda into everything. Also, why is it that they always play the victim? They can't get into a decent argument so they fall back to the "we are persecuted" mentality."

If it was up to me, there would be no romances at all.

Still, romances are optional. You don't have to do them. I'm sure their are pedaphiles who would want to have romances with little kids, doesn't mean that developers have to put it.

Too many perverts on these forums.

I'm glad there isn't same-sex romance in ME2. That way, I don't have to deal with the bs. There is already same-sex marriage in my country so I could not care any less.

Isn't alien sex enough for you perverts?

How would the existence of potential bi-sexual or same-sex romance force you into a same-sex relationship. All we're talking about is choice. People who only want opposite-sex romance can play it as such and others who want to take a same-sex route can do the same. It's not about romance and sex - it's about maximizing game immersion potential for all gamers.

Does it not strike you as somewhat ridiculous that Bioware has created a new character and race (Thane the Drell) specifically for female gamers,  apparently also allows the same gamers the chance to romance Garrus while male Shepards get Tali, yet people who want a same-sex romance (not just gay, bi-sexual people but also straight male gamers like me who enjoy their Femshep characters vastly more than the male version) do not even have a single option out of *6* known romance possibilities?

While alien sex is the good old raunch/suspension of disbelief a same-sex romance is not? I mean come on, if aliens are romanceable why even hesitate at including even one same-sex or bi-sexual romance per gender?

I agree, I believe that shortening the role playing options for any reason is bad, and that replacing a romance with a space hamster and a monkey skeet shoot mini-game is frankly insulting.

About the dev responses, chances are they are under lock and key about the romances until tuesday, though this is not the only thread that's hostile right now. You should see some of the stuff on the ME1 romance thread. Sheesh. Bioware seems to have inadvertently created several broken bases http://tvtropes.org/...Main/BrokenBase.

And who knows? Maybe the first DLC removes gender checks.

If BW gives the player CHOICE to romance an LI of the same gender, these threads will stop. Just look at the DAO boards. You don't see constant complaints about the availability of same-sex romance in DAO. People who are not into it will simply not choose it. It's that simple.

It still just...bad. Like people can't 'win' if they don't 'demonize' the 'enemy'. From either the against or the for crowd.

LOL, and you're as smart as a block of osmium.

These threads will keep appearing/going regardless of whether I reply to them or not because it is obviously a contentious issue, and gay pushers are constantly spamming the forums with these threads..

The reason why I reply, is to let Bioware know there is an opposing side to the issue and it's not all just "rainbow flag" waving..

I've said it already, but I'll just say it again for safety.  I officially support the inclusion of gay romance options in future Bioware games or in DLC for this game.  If new squadmembers are added via DLC for gay romance options, I will download that DLC to get the new squaddie even even if I don't pursue the romance.  I may not use this content, but I think others deserve it if they want it.  I got what I wanted this time (malien options and multiple ones at that) so I am willing to sit on the bench next time if that will give other people a shot at getting what they want as well.  Turns abouts fair play and all that.

You miss the point.  Yes the straight romances are optional but people who like gay romance don't even get the option.  Straight people do.  It's not fair.

And you can't possibly be comparing homosexuality to pedophilia.

For a long time I thought these forums had a disproportionately large/active homosexual community. I realize now that this is just straight male gamers in search of "******" material.

Damn you Liara T'Soni!!!! what have you unleashed upon us?!

This is for the extremists out there. (That's not most of you having civil discussions here.)

If someone writes a story for a character basis where that character is not gay, who are we to change it? Why must that straight character be made gay? Whose story is it and who's telling it anyhow? We play their story the way they tell it.

The idea that they must make an option to have their straight character be optionally gay is still the same thing. Their story. Their storytelling.

Does this mean they can't make stories that include gay storylines? Of course it doesn't. They already have such stories and will likely have more.

Does this mean they must make the characters they designed as straight have the option to be gay? No. Why should they? We come back to why it is so important to take their story and make a fundamental change to one of their characters.

Leave the gay storylines for gay characters. Not every character (main or supporting) must be optionally gay (and inversely, not always bisexual as the alternative to straight). Sheesh!

I refer you to my post at http://social.biowar...39997/10#743301 for more details however here is an extract of the arguments on why romances are important:

"The argument that making part of the *6* romances available for same-sex romance is a waste of resources is ridiculous: why bother with *any* romance at all in that case? We all know the answer: because we and Bioware know that this adds to the game and makes it easier to identify with and invest in one's own characters and the NPCs we interact with. This leads to greater immersion which in turn translates to a higher appreciation of the game and, by extension, its creators, which translates to more $$$ for future Bioware titles. So given that heterosexual romance is very handsomely catered for in Mass Effect 2 why spurn a significant portion of gamers?"
