BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

I must say that I as a straight guy I would much rather have a gay male or a bisexual female than a full on lesbian female crew member.
First, any new crew member would be great because it would add to the story. (the story is by far my favorite aspect of mass effect)
If they introduce a new crew member who is male, I will be happy to get him because him being gay or strait won't really make that much differance. if he is straight, then I won't romance him and if he is gay then I won't romance him. in Jade empire, i didn't even know that there was a gay or bisexual male on the team until years after I had already finished the game several times (i read it on a forum somewhere).
In Dragon age, the fact that that Zeveran was Bisexual did not bother me at all and it was an interesting aspect to his character.
although... I must admit that a gay male romance might actually hurt sales because there are some straight guys who will be really disgusted by it and will think less of the game. for example: a movie could be the greatest movie ever but the minute two guys have a love scene it instantly becomes "the gay movie". there are MANY strait guys who don't want to be at all associated with anything gay. (by gay i mean 2 dudes... two girls is actually pretty hot)
in my opinion, a gay guy or a bisexual female would be fine with me because it wouldn't have any impact on my playstyle as a straight male other than having my older brother and a few co workers give me crap for owning a "gay game".
a full on gay female would suck. especially if she's attractive. It would be pretty lame for bioware to put a hot female on the ship and not give males an option to romance her. If the female is bisexual that opens up a threesome option... if she's full on lesbian then the only option is frustration on the part of male players. (there are many females and gay males that play mass effect... but heterosexual males are my FAR the largest purchasing demographic for mass effect games)
i'm straight but i'm not a hater. i'm pretty indifferent about it. if they want to add a gay male or a bisexual female then that's completely fine with me. more power to 'em.
I think that at the end, bioware is going to go for the option that has the broader apeal. if 85-90% of gamers are either against it or don't care either way and only 10-15% are really for it... does it really make sense for bioware to do it? i mean this is a game after all and not a political statement. I'm pretty sure that bioware staff has absolutely NO problem with homosexuality whatsoever. many of thier games feature bisexual characters. a writer would never add a gay character to a movie or a book just to make things even or fair. the same goes for video games i guess. if the narrative calls for gayness then I'm sure they will include it accordingly. otherwise, I think that bioware will do thier best to appeal to the broader masses.

I think everybody's just making too much of a big deal about it. Yes it's 2010 and all, but it doesn't mean that Bioware is OBLIGED to put same sex romance in ME2. But pushing for something like this, doesn't anybody agree with me that it's making a big deal about nothing? It's just a game for christ sake!
Don't get me wrong, I think that gays should have the right to be equal, and they have the right to fight for their rights. But you gotta draw the line somewhere.
Bottom line: it's Bioware's choice whether or not they want to include same sex romance. Just because they aren't doesn't make them homophobic.
And I agree, however this is the first time they HAVEN"T included same sex romance since KOTOR, and pushing for it is what got the Tali/Garrus options included, so we really have no choice.
We have been shown by Bioware that Silence=screwed over and threads=possible inclusion.

We speak for what we want - like any consumer.
Think about it the next time you're whining at a counter at the store.
Wanna make it about Mass Effect? We (meaning homosexuals) are the Refund Guy - and the rest of you (those who don't support us) are the Turian.

no it is being forced and honestly im offended by having to sit through it just like you may be offended if it doesnt exist. pick a side? the obvious choice is pick the side thats supposed to happen by that i mean male - female.
im wrong for saying that? can 2 women make a child? can a man and a woman make a child? thats why im not wrong and thats what should be chosen to make the majority of people both happy and comfortable. like i said idc if ur gay just dont force on us - you know the people that choose to have sex like it was intended?

Sorry, I was confused by what you meant, I was trying to argue that Shep isn't a predetermined character and that he/she isn't "straight", as shepard is, as the advertising at least states, your character, which means shep can be straight/bi/gay/a xenophile/a xenophobe etc..
More options in games never hurts anyone, and I just seemingly don't understand how anyone can look at more as being worse *shrugs*

As in DAO and ME1, the lesbian/gay romance options were completely optional. Not all men and women can make children together. You don't have to sit through it, being sapient hopefully puts us to a point were we're beyond just breeding, Liara can have Femsheps children, the majority of the people who play Bioware games are either supportive or unconcerned(the total between the two groups.) We were also intended to swing from trees that's why we have vestigal fingers on our feet.
This is getting boring.

I do want to point out something, though: the fact that there were gay romances in Dragon Age is proof that a game can have homosexual content and still sell hilariously well. On the other hand, the content in Dragon Age is not necessarily a good barometer for what should be in Mass Effect. Dragon Age is a deeply sexual game that purposefully skirts with dark, controversial content. The universe itself was steeped in blood, sacrifice, and...well, sex. The absence of homosexuality in that universe would be far more noticeable in that mythos than it is in this one.
But of course, that being said, I'd argue that seven new romances with not a single bi/homosexual option is pretty hard to miss as well. It's...well, it's pretty ridiculous, there's no other way to say it.
You know what actually surprises me the most about this whole fiesta is the amount of people who have apparently managed to convince themselves that Liara wasn't a lesbian romance option. I mean the dissonance on that train of thought is freaking profound. "It's not gay! Whem my FemShep rubbed heaving boobies with this voluptuous vixen, it wasn't gay it was monosexual okay??" Riiiiight, okay, whatever helps you enjoy the game.

Oh this will be fun!im wrong for saying that?
Yes. Allow me to demonstrate:can 2 women make a child?
Nope. Can an infertile man + a woman make a child? I guess anybody found to be infertile should become a minority which is not given fair consideration at all, according to your logic.can a man and a woman make a child?
Yep. Unless one of them is infertile. Or unless the man has had a vasectomy (though still a minute chance). Or Unless a woman has had her tubes tied. According to your ignorant logic, they should all be relegated into some minority status because their biology is "wrong"? Now who's forcing who?thats why im not wrong
Actually, you are.and thats what should be chosen to make the majority of people both happy and comfortable.
Including same-sex relationships in games isn't forcing it on you. Were you forced in ME1? Were you forced in JE? Were you forced in DAO? Yeah, I didn't think you were. Grow out of your ignorant little box, please.like i said idc if ur gay just dont force on us
Nobody is forcing anything on you. You, on the other hand, clearly have no qualms about telling homosexuals to "live with it, because you're wrong", in essence forcing them to be overlooked. Hypocrite.- you know the people that choose to have sex like it was intended?
Sex is sex, child. If you think there's a specific right way and a specific wrong way... the animal kingdom has a lot to teach you. I suggest you go to class.
Try to use direct gameplay examples in each segment it's possible to in your arguments so that this thread is less likely to get locked.
