BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

Happily so. ^_^  I'll continue posting on the topic here as well, but would love a place where worrying on trolls and large scale ideological arguments didn't take center focus.

I don't really care either way about gay romance, but this poll is biased.

You should have three options, Yay, Nay and don't care.

Having people vote yay when they don't care throws the numbers off.

This 100%. And that's from someone whose bisexual. I would love to skirt both in the game, but one thing I know that can be really annoying in real life is if someone seems to be forcing themselves on you and your not like that. I had a real life experience where I accidently did that with a friend, and she hasn't really talked with me since. I felt stupid, and horrible. Think if your Shepard is gay, or bisexual and he/she approaches someone of the same gender who isn't. That would really strain some relationships.

You are forgetting that this isn't real life....it's just a game!  People play games to escape from all the crap they have to deal with IRL.

But Bioware has spent this time crafting a believable world. In a believable world, not every person or alien has homosexual feelings or tendencies. I would like to think that sufficiently advanced aliens would act kinda like the Greek, and not even differentiate between straight and gay however just chock is up to personal choice.

By some people's logic, Bioware should remove the option for Shepard to play Renegade, since the majority of players are Paragon leaning (see the polls and read the boards).

On purely economic grounds, I doubt there are many people who would not buy the game because they can't have a same sex romance. And the number or players who will have added value out of a same-sex romance is very small. So why would they waste man hours putting it in?

Also, it might turn away some gamers. Believe it or not, theres a lot of people who don't like gays. So, conflicted with the amount of gamers who want same-sex with the amount of gamers who don't want same sex, Bioware will end up losing money instead of gaining money. Now, you wouldn't want Bioware to lose profit, would you? That would be selfish.

There WON'T BE any gay romances unless added by 3rd-party mods, if they can be done.

It's not Bioware's fault, it's SOCIAL fault. And it regards MARKETING issues.

Is it really SO difficult to understand that?

Is that really true? I don't recall DA:O getting banned.

There already is a large LGBT group on the site, with a sizeable amount of members. They want to discuss it here out in the open, because they are hoping for a Dev response. It will never come, of course.

The only response we need is the availability of same-sex romance in ME games.   Tali fans have made their voices heard, and so should we.

Well, I think you overestimate how 'believable' it is.

Anyways, we aren't asking for every person or alien to have homosexual tendencies...just one per gender.

Plus, there's some evidence out there to suggest that Jack is bisexual.  Why isn't she an option for FemShep then?

I didn't make that poll, but if you don't care, why would you vote in the first place?

Well, first of all, your stats are highly debatable.    Secondly, it is the player who is supposed to direct the story.  NPCs are collections of polygons, textures, sound files and code.  They don't have sexualities.  If we are paying for the game just like everybody else, we should be able to enjoy the story.

It's at this stage, that character development goes horribly wrong

There is no marketing issue! Marketing is NO argument, because gay topics don`t hurt the sales. Remember Dragon Age!
I can`t believe that this pops up every freakin time.

Last time I checked DA:O was doing just fine in sales, too; so much for the unpopularity argument, unless ME fans are simply less advanced than DA:O fans. I guess that's possible.

I'm so glad they aren't letting the gay & lesbian communities of the world fully enjoy this game!

For that alone, I vote game of the year!

Did you even bother to read our above post? Whats the point of making a group if all they are going to do is sit in a corner and whisper to each other? They have every right to be heard, the problem is people keep banning threads because of religiouse fights that break out in them and other nonesense. I'm sure they would keep this simple thread going if people didn't start trolling it with religiouse views.

That last part I agree with. I am kinda dissapointed that she turned out to not be, because she was supposed to be and she's sorta right up my alley (minus the missing hair). So yeah, I'm a little peeved about that.

of course the poll is bias, no one really beleives pro gay is the majority, not even the gays.

Technically it was a marketing thing. Bioware wanted the mainstream 'Call of Duty' crowd as said by the devs themselves if my memory serves.

So Bioware likely just played it safe. They always do kind of play it safe with same-sex romances though. For example, the romance character option is never a male/female 'lead' companion. Like, if they had implemented it in ME2, it would have been Subject Zero for femsheps and never ever Miranda.

I rephrase...

They shouldn't. IMO. They aren't going to do it. Commander Shepard is straight. You want to say otherwise, then consult Bioware about their own character.

But its often played up that mass effect is 'your story' and is about choices, etc. Not to mention you can play as femshep, black, saint, complete racist, xenophile, etc. The 'Shepard is straight' argument thats so often used is completely invalid.

There should only be same sex romance options if in fact the NPCs you can have romances with are gay or lesbians. Regardless of what you think should be, not everyone is homosexual or have homosexual tendencies. In fact only 2% in a given mammalian species are homosexual or show homosexual tendencies.

I don't care, but the point still stands that poll is biased.

You ladies and gentlemen have an agenda to get gay romance into mass effect, which is fine but do it honestly to show the proper number of supporters.

hmmm...didn't know that, really. Saw a Dragon Age vid about it and I was like o_O. I think I'll change my mind about it then...^ ^

This is quickly devolving into yet another flame war, which is why these sort of topics continue to get locked. Please let's try to stay on topic, and fall back on that old adage of 'if you don't have anything nice to say...'

On the initial topic, in one of the books there's a rather high end military individual who happens to be gay. The name and rank escape me as I haven't read the books myself and heard of him only secondhand. That being said, do folks expect we will see/hear of him in the game's locations or Codex entries?

I saw. I doubt it. First off the very title of the thread is confrontational. Secondly a large portion of the posters in this thread wish to play the injured party/oppressed minority card - honestly it's really getting tiresome. We don't have a issue with you guys wanting a same sex relationship for your shep, what we do have a issue with is the boards getting clogged with these threads. I can go back 1 page and find 3-5 of these threads. Why in the gods names do you need that many threads ? You know what will get bioware's attention. If you took the time and effort to all write a letter (yes a actual papaer one) and post it to them. That shows that you take the matter seriously and are willing to dedicate a modicum of effort to it. Ranting/discussing on a internet forum rarely changes anything.
