BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

Do you think a game developer should be legally regulated to "fix" this?

Absolutely not.  Freedom of speech a million times over.  This is their story, let them tell it.

If Bioware's goal is to make a game that is personal and part of the intended experience is for the player to develop a romantic elationship with a character, they've missed the mark for a section of their audience.  The argument is then whether that audience is significant or not.

Sexuality is certainly a significant component of a lot of folks' identity and one that they'd like to be able to impart upon their characters, and I'd definitely imagine it to be in the top 5 if people voted on additional ways to shape Shepard.  But Shep as a character is not entirely decided by the player by any means.  Unless or until there is some sort of artificial intelligence going on behind the scenes in these games, there are always going to be finitely many pre-defined stories you can pick from that are basically all encased in one huge IF..THEN..ELSE statement.  You can't, for instance, make Shepard deaf, pacifist, claustrophobic, pro-Reaper, or anything else on an endless list of possibilities that simply isn't included in the stories they have pre-cooked.

Agreed, and I'd put money on it [edit: it being the extra choice] being a net positive value for their product.  I'm not the one with the multi-million dollar production budget though, so maybe they have info I'm not privy to.

Why not? It couldn't hurt. I can't imagine why people would actually argue against this being in the game. I'm getting a similar vibe here that I get from those "More shooter = less RPG" whiners.

To be honest, it's not very important either way. I doubt it'll be even a remotely significant part of the game.

also, no, I haven't read the last 33 pages.

Yes, but the fact is they put romance options in each of their games, its become something Bioware is well known for and something a lot of fans anticipate. Its part of their games, so to exclude m/m is, to me, depressing and offensive. Obviously the creators can do what they want but i'm certainly free to complain about it.

I'm not very eloquent so I'm not really the best person to try and argue this point.  Yeah, they can only have a finite amount of ways to customize your shepard and while I can't make my Shepard, for example, claustrophobic, romance options are one of the things that are, to most people, customizable so in my opinion same sex should be included on principal.

i don't like the fact that there is no m/m relationship but theres a F/F relationship.

It was the same in Mass Effect one and it sends a pretty clear message.

what would that message be?

Lesbians are shmexeh but teh gay secks is gross.

But its not gross :crying:

Yes, well, I'm in a foul mood now. Just follow my lead. Skip breakfast and have a vodka on the rocks. There's gonna be a lot of swearing at the television and gesturing crudely at passers by who dare to look in my window today, my shirt dripping with spilled tequila and my tone with disdain.

LOL.

Still this makes me really sad. :crying:

I not sure if I should just play my friends copy or go out and buy my own. I mean heck I might as well buy DA expansion instead >_>

Though there's no way at all for gay romances. :(

Honestly no Thane? Jacob? Heck Garrus would actually make sense seeing as he's romanceable by FemShep.  He actually tells Shep that its not physical. >_>

I can't say with certainty that there isn't a gay option but I'm 99% sure. At this point, if there was m/m info would have been released on it and the mass effect wiki has details on each romance, including that Kelly Chambers is apparently available to both genders, but no mention of m/m. Bring on the vodka.

*sniff* Well I'm just going to have to play some Kichiku Megane to make up for that won't I? :crying:

You hurt me Bioware. You hurt me deep. :(

I emphatically agree that I'd like to see it there, too.  My post was a little off-topic, but it's something I find interesting and the previous poster piqued that interest.

There's an end-goal that has to be reached and some Shepards (pro-Reaper or strict pacifist) can't work in Bioware's story.

Despite what some trolls would have you believe, being gay doesn't preclude men from fighting, leading, etc. in real life.  The soldier I'm dating is proof of that.  I can't think of a logical reason why we don't have gay Shepard except for fear of bad PR.

Ultimately, if Mass Effect 2 expects you to emotionally invest in your love interest so that the choices have weight, a gay player will miss out.  That's all.  Whether that's really a big deal is up for discussion.

Just gonna say that there is a lesbian romance in mass effect 2.

There isn't a homosexual romance though.

Its not in the game, nothing you can do about it, stop complaining and start SUGGESTING that bioware add the option to mass effect 3 if you want it so badly.

The male characters were WRITTEN and DESIGNED to be straight. So don't ask for DLC of them being HOMOSEXUAL because they are STRAIGHT.

At the most you could get a dlc with another possible squad member, who is gay, but don't ask for the preexisting ones to be made gay.

Where do people get this people designed to be straight nonsense from? :/

Honestly where? Someone acting in a certain matter doesn't make them gay or straight.

And besides I was watching vids. Jacob is pretty ho yay towards Shep in any case. Enough that he could reasonably go into a relationship with him (especially after his personal quest).

Indeed.  I didn't mean to connote that being gay was comparable to any of the traits I mentioned [edit: or is somehow incompatible with the story], so I'm sorry if it came across that way.  To be honest, most of the reason I made that post was because I was imagining the game that does have some intelligence behind it and that sort of infinite possibility and contrasting it to our woefully inadequate (by comparison) current tech.

Although...I guess if you had an AI running a game for you, that be slavery of some sort?

Suggesting doesn't seem to make much of a difference, because players have been asking for M/M romance since the first Mass Effect.

Also, if they allowed male Shepard to romance one of the current male NPCs that would make the NPCs bisexual.

Dunno, it reminds me a lot of the nonsensical 'Shepard is straight' justification.

I don't follow. Though, I guess you can't say it anyway because of NO SPOILERS.

Probably its just the way he's standing, the way he's eyeing Shep and his tone when he says "Fratenizing."

Though i probably am projecting. :(

Handheld thinks this thread has devolved into one big huge argument its sad that Handheld and his fellow forumites cannot have a civil discussion.

Handhelds religion in videogames thread was also closed due to people bickering over nonsense the fact of the matter is they arent in the game however it could change but Handheld and his fellow forumites wont know unless it Happens. Handheld however would like to discuss cool things such as....
