BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

Bioware is taking two steps forward and one back in doing this.

Depends on the demographic polled. If the people polled are younger, and many of them are European, Canadian, and from urban US, then I expect a very large majority to support the same-sex OPTION.Kalfear wrote...

I don't really care either way about gay romance, but this poll is biased.
You should have three options, Yay, Nay and don't care.
Having people vote yay when they don't care throws the numbers off.
of course the poll is bias, no one really beleives pro gay is the majority, not even the gays.

If "don't care" counts as pro-gay, then I suspect the gays would win by a landslide.
Edit: But yeah, that poll isn't very good as it stands.

Being hostile doesn't help anyone.
Hopefully in the future people will just accept and understand people for who they are and these kinds of post and polls won't be necessary.

Group of like minded people. Please join it and let the thousands of threads like this die. Then I can move on to the Tali/Garrus love threads.
Did you even bother to read our above post? Whats the point of making a group if all they are going to do is sit in a corner and whisper to each other? They have every right to be heard, the problem is people keep banning threads because of religiouse fights that break out in them and other nonesense. I'm sure they would keep this simple thread going if people didn't start trolling it with religiouse views.
I saw. I doubt it. First off the very title of the thread is confrontational. Secondly a large portion of the posters in this thread wish to play the injured party/oppressed minority card - honestly it's really getting tiresome. We don't have a issue with you guys wanting a same sex relationship for your shep, what we do have a issue with is the boards getting clogged with these threads. I can go back 1 page and find 3-5 of these threads. Why in the gods names do you need that many threads ? You know what will get bioware's attention. If you took the time and effort to all write a letter (yes a actual papaer one) and post it to them. That shows that you take the matter seriously and are willing to dedicate a modicum of effort to it. Ranting/discussing on a internet forum rarely changes anything.
I agree with your first part but "Ranting/discussing on a internet forum rarely changes anything" Are you blind? The only reason this game has Tali and Garrus romances not to mention tons and tons of fixes is for the FACT they were said on the forums. If they didn't they still would have had planet exploration and find minerals on a barely operating vehicle, I could listen even more!

There should only be same sex romance options if in fact the NPCs you can have romances with are gay or lesbians. Regardless of what you think should be, not everyone is homosexual or have homosexual tendencies. In fact only 2% in a given mammalian species are homosexual or show homosexual tendencies.
1. There is no absolute number
2. People try to experiment, so even heteorsexuals can be homosexual and reversed homosexuals can be heterosexuals. Preferences aren`t set in stone.

Haha. Perhaps people will have learned now to ignore the trolls and stay ON TOPIC.
As in the other half-a-dozen or so threads before this one that were delightfully locked down, I would like (and expected before being bitterly disappointed) a same-sex romance option in ME2, as unlikely as it may be now. Perhaps ME3 will continue the trend, since femshep/Liara will be guaranteed.
....or will it be Bioware? I worry now....
According to another thread, there is remarkably little interaction with past LIs. So I imagine that Liara is about as important to the ME universe as the Hanar preacher or expat.

I am in support if it makes sense for story wise and it fits the setting. Placing homosexual romances for the sake of just having a homosexual romance but otherwise does not fit in the story or themes of the game I do not support.
Sir, I agree with your point. If there is a gay or bi sexual character than it would make sense (example Zevran from DA:O). For all we know this Yeoman Chambers may or may not swing both ways. It is up to the writers to decide (since this is their artistic creation) and sometimes they do include such options not because of mainstream pressure but because they just didn't have any gay or bi party members this time around or so we have been led to believe by Casey's comments.
However I can sympathize with the gay/lesbian community. Bioware has a habit of making likable characters, a sort of westernized moe (as in its earlier usage not current usage) charcter if you will, and relationships add a degree to your PCs background and how characters interact with you, other characters aknowledge the relationship and even talk with you about it thus drawing you further into the world. By not giving an option they are losing out on a small amount of gameplay but a relative large amount of character development.

There WON'T BE any gay romances unless added by 3rd-party mods, if they can be done.
It's not Bioware's fault, it's SOCIAL fault. And it regards MARKETING issues.
Is it really SO difficult to understand that?
I would go further. There is no 'fault' here. It is normal to cater for the majority in preference to the minority. That is both a democratic and capitalist principle.

This could not have been said much better. Just because you are homosexual, does not entitle you to homosexual romances in games for the sake of having a homosexual romance. If it's there, it should serve to further the story, as should any romance subplot.
This is after all, an RPG. e.g. you are not playing yourself, you're playing somone else, who may or may not be homosexual (Statistically, chances are not.)

In fairness, I'm not entirely sure you can argue that point. Just because there were topics on the forum regarding such issues, which were then addressed in ME2, doesn't necessarily mean this was BW listening to those creating and posting in the threads. This is especially true when discussing anything that could be considered plot-specific.

Seconded.
Best thing you can make is to keep it for yourself, your boyfriend AND the people you want to know.
And smash the head off' with a warhammer at the people who put their noses into your private life.

"Shepard`s story is your story" quotet from BioWare themself. So yes you can play yourself and even if my Shepard is a female, I play as I want to play. There is no canon.

This^ the romance with Leliana in DAO is a perfect example. Leliana was a sweet loveable, but still very complex character whose romantic interactions with the PC did a lot to increase the immersion for me personally. The comments Wynne, Morrigan, and Alistairs comments on the romance were just icing on the cake.
Beyond that, there are now 7 or so new romances in ME2, of those 0 are accesible to gay/lesbian characters, or even guys who prefer playing female characters and females playing guy characters.(Some exceptions of course.)

How come? There's nothing special about New Yorkers, for instance. Thy just live in a community with decent norms. I don't see any intrinsic reason why everybody can't be civilized..... eventually.

It's 2010, so what? Most countries still have laws in place against homosexual marriage. Only the really cool, advanced ones *slams self on the chest* allow it, and another bunch wimp out by calling them ''unions'' to prevent upsetting the religious crazies.
I mean, I get what you are trying to say here, but don't use ''It's 2010'' as an argument. I'm fairy sure we are not at the pinnacle of human civilization yet, not by a long shot. Too many things are still wrong with society. And even then I'm just talking about the Western world here, obviously.

1.) We have gay romances in Jade Empire (fantasy & partial historical setting) and in Dragon Age (again fantasy + historical theme).
2.) We don't have gay romances in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 (science fiction).
So what's the statement? Let's interpret the games: Jade Empire and Dragon age are metaphors for FANATASY and for THE PAST. Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 stand for THE FUTURE.
So Bioware believes that gay love belongs to the past and should be only a fanatasy, but nothing real and definitely not the future. They are enemies of gay love, they want it to stop!
Makes sense, doesn't it?
And if you think I'm crazy, yeah, correct. I'm just making fun of all the haters.
