BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

Point taken.  Like I said...I am fine with it either way.  It wouldn't ruin the game for me in any way if Shepard was written as all gay either.  But I don't play Mass Effect for the romancing anyways.

Which is fine, just understand that the romance aspect adds a lot of enjoyment and replayability for some.

That's one ME2 romance scene I'm avoiding for sure.

Having more options that cater to more people/customers is always good for business.

Nothing enforced, but optional.

And that is fine, but if the developers choose to have Shepard in any particular sexual orientation, players are still given the choice to romance, or not within those parameters.  Ultimately who cares considering the actual orientation of Shepard does not affect the plot in any way really.

No, the orientation of Shepard does not affect the plot.  So, why not give Shepard the option to be gay or lesbian?  Why not give players a chance to role-play their Shepard in that way?

What if BW decided to make all Shepard's gay and limit romance possibilities to just the same sex.  Do you think people would be happy with romancing within those parameters?

I'm with you on that point. Story is most important to me. But some people are just frustrated to see 4 het options for male Shep and no gay one. Especially in a game about choice. And I do think the romance adds another depth to the story. The story in ME changes for the character if he romances Ash, for instance. It makes the Virmire choice more important, IMO.

And this increases immersion, which increases overall satisfaction, which increases the chance you'll buy ME stuff and tell your friends about the game. Despite arguments against, nothing bad can or has come from the inclusion of a non-heterosexual choice in these games. Though if you look at the threads that got locked, plenty has come from the exclusion.

Ultimately I think it has more to do with people wishing to live out their own fantasies via games than actually just going with the story and character development set out by the writers.

Except, Bioware markets the game as 'putting the player in Shepard's shoes to live out their space fantasies and blah blah blah'.

Didn't you watch those Sci vs. Fi spots?

Yes space fantasies....not sexual fantasies.

Well, then they shouldn't have the m/f romances in it. Image IPB

We have already resolved this issue I believe, and have come to an understanding. I appreciate your support but we took care of this one.

Yes they should if the developers have written Shepard to be a particular way.  But more choice is always good.  Keep reading and you'll see that this has been agreed upon.

There should only be same sex romance options if in fact the NPCs you can have romances with are gay or lesbians. Regardless of what you think should be, not everyone is homosexual or have homosexual tendencies. In fact only 2% in a given mammalian species are homosexual or show homosexual tendencies.

I am in support if it makes sense for story wise and it fits the setting.  Placing homosexual romances for the sake of just having a homosexual romance but otherwise does not fit in the story or themes of the game I do not support.

Why would a gay/lesbian-romance not fit in the game/story ? Shepard can go around romancing nearly his/her entire crew, it's okay, there's no "How does that fit in the story?" question, but if you want a same-sex romance than you have to consider the point ?

There is an entire species of discount lebians in the ME universe. It fits the story. And in western civilizations it's between 2-13% with estimates in the U.S. and Canada being around 10. Beyond that there is evidence of a slow increase in said percentages.

It fits the story just fine.

Plus if cross species romance is a choice, then it makes sense that homosexual choice would fit the story too.

Please explain to me how Yeoman Kelly's catsuit and booty-shaking stripper dance fits in the story, and homosexuals don't.  Seems like a glaring double-standard to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

Personally, I think that, in that particular era, cross-species romance would be viewed by most humans as worse than homosexuality (granted there was still a large prjudice against homosexuality). I mean, there had just been a war against turians, and your Shepard can fall in love with one? I CALL SHENANIGANS. Image IPB

Yeah, Kelly made sure to bring her catsuit along just in case Commander Shepard would be hot and into her.

BTW, I'm 'lauging out loud' silently at work right now.  It's painful as it defies logic.

I agree that the game should have included same sex relationships but damn you've been back and fourth on this topic for months. Same posters for the most part.No disrespect but you must realise Bioware isn't listening. Let it go?

Anyway, on the old ME forums, the thread about the lack of gay romance (well, non F/F romance) was +90pages and it died just because the forums closed.
Now that it's back up on Social, what is the BioWare trick to ignore it ? Image IPBImage IPB

Agree with the sentiment (so tired of this) but Bioware kind of shot themselves in the foot when they did an about-face and included NG+.  Now, everytime they say "no", people will just think if they complain loud enough and frequently enough, Bioware will change its collective mind.
