Even at 5%, the probability of one non-straight companion out of 5 is 23%. 5% isn't as small a percentage as you think it is.

...and a small percent would actively serve in the military (this doesn't neccessarily mean because they can't physically or emotionally, but that they are generally less apt to take a human life unless extreme circumstance dictate...they're generally about peace and love).

I know some homosexuals and there are some that you wouldn't guess were so. Yes, they sometimes drop very subtle hints to it, but it's hard to tell.

Because 10% scattered over 300 million means that 99% of the time, picking 10 random people won't net you a single homosexual. 10% of 300 million means .000001% of 10 people. I hope you see how that works.

Percentages can be taken out of context, just like a lot of things in life. That argument might have worked on a 10 yr old.

As I understand it the Kelly thing is not a romance but more like an upgrade to the Asari lap dancer in Flux in ME1. The human equivalent of a trophy fish tank but with (possibly) less variation. o.O Hardly what I'd call a meaningful romance. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

How amusing. I hope that wasn't BioWare's idea of romance. Having seen some other scenes on YouTube, I have to wonder: Why is everyone fully dressed during romance scenes? Has it really gotten to the point where nudity needs to be censored in an M rated game? That is sad.

Alright, you say 5% of all people are gay. Okay, if we take that to also include the entirety of every species on the game, that means that every person on your team has a 5% chance of being gay, or 1 in 20.  So far so good.
 
Now, we add all the members of the team together to get a total for what the likelihood that there is one person who is gay:
 
There are nine squadmates with whom gay relationships could possibly occur. Not counting Samara or Legion. Counting Zaeed.
 
(1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) = (9/20) ~ .45 or 45%
 
45% chance of having a gay teammate. You can further break it down for which gender:
 
Female: 3(1/20) = 3/20 ~ .15 or 15%
Male: 6(1/20) = 6/20 ~ .30 or 30%
 
And there you go! The percentages that your team can be gay!

5% of 300 million breaks down into .00000000005% out of 10 people. So theres actually less than a 1% chance that 1 of your 10 party members will be gay.
