BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

Sigh at the bigotry of internet tough guys.
What was the line in that James Whale biography movie (who was a gay man who served on the front lines in WW1)... "There may not have been any atheists in the foxholes, but there were certainly lovers."

It was more like she was judging Kelly instead of actively participating.

However, that does not negate the fact that 5% of the worlds population is a very small percentage
Even at 5%, the probability of one non-straight companion out of 5 is 23%. 5% isn't as small a percentage as you think it is.
...and a small percent would actively serve in the military (this doesn't neccessarily mean because they can't physically or emotionally, but that they are generally less apt to take a human life unless extreme circumstance dictate...they're generally about peace and love).
Man, the stereotypes are thick today.

That doesn't mean you can't TELL if someone is gay.
And your other point...I'm not even going to touch that.
I know some homosexuals and there are some that you wouldn't guess were so. Yes, they sometimes drop very subtle hints to it, but it's hard to tell.

Furthermore, a 10% population....even increasing in the US and Canada is still VERY small. The chance that Shepard or his 5 crewmates from ME1 would be homosexual is unbelievably slim. Furthermore, expand that out to 10 crewmembers, the chances are still very very slight that there would be a homosexual among them.
Did you flunk basic math?
Let's leave Shepard out of the equation since his/her sexuality should be decided by the player.
The probability that at least one of the 5 companions would be gay or bi, if the chance is 10% for each, would be about 41%. I don't know what your definition of very slight is, but 41% isn't what most people are thinking of when they use the phrase.
Edit: and since you can't do math, with 10 crewmenbers the probability goes up to over 65%.
It seems that your math is sound, but your general extrapolation method is terrible. Since you seem to not have schooling past high school I'll explain. Take 10 people randomly off the street, the high probablility is that none of them are gay....why? Because 10% scattered over 300 million means that 99% of the time, picking 10 random people won't net you a single homosexual. 10% of 300 million means .000001% of 10 people. I hope you see how that works.
Percentages can be taken out of context, just like a lot of things in life. That argument might have worked on a 10 yr old.

Maybe that's all it was? Kelly wanted Shepard's opinion of her seductive dance technique so she could perfect it and use it to lure Jacob or Joker into bed.

No, at ten percent scattered throught the population, chances and statistics say that 1 in ten will be gay... man your dense.. soooo dense, take some college courses next time, oh and make sure your kids don't drop out in junior high which is apparently what you did...

This entitlement attitude is obnoxious. Bioware doesn't OWE homosexuals anything. Also:

There should only be same sex romance options if in fact the NPCs you can have romances with are gay or lesbians. I am in support if it makes sense for story wise and it fits the setting. Placing homosexual romances for the sake of just having a homosexual romance but otherwise does not fit in the story or themes of the game I do not support.
And do I really have to point out that Romances compose like 1% of these games?

How amusing. I hope that wasn't BioWare's idea of romance. Having seen some other scenes on YouTube, I have to wonder: Why is everyone fully dressed during romance scenes? Has it really gotten to the point where nudity needs to be censored in an M rated game? That is sad.

Statitics?
Alright, you say 5% of all people are gay. Okay, if we take that to also include the entirety of every species on the game, that means that every person on your team has a 5% chance of being gay, or 1 in 20. So far so good.
Now, we add all the members of the team together to get a total for what the likelihood that there is one person who is gay:
There are nine squadmates with whom gay relationships could possibly occur. Not counting Samara or Legion. Counting Zaeed.
(1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) + (1/20) = (9/20) ~ .45 or 45%
45% chance of having a gay teammate. You can further break it down for which gender:
Female: 3(1/20) = 3/20 ~ .15 or 15%
Male: 6(1/20) = 6/20 ~ .30 or 30%
And there you go! The percentages that your team can be gay!

5% of 300 million breaks down into .00000000005% out of 10 people. So theres actually less than a 1% chance that 1 of your 10 party members will be gay.
Basic college extrapolation.

Yes he will.
The new straight crew is just clueless when it comes to opposite sex relationships. That's why they need to go to their homosexual Commander to help them out.
